How to Nurse a Butterfly (rp invitation)

Bayleen's picture
"A letter for Mariposa's help therapy company,

My dear friend, Mariposa seems to be undergoeing deep, deep depression. Dangerously deep. She was once cheerful, but now she wears a blank expression on her face and is interested in nothing. Mariposa has just not been herself for the past week or two. This beautiful butterfly is withering. So I am asking for some...help company. but she does need help. Nothing I do helps her. Her eyes are weary and tired and she's growing skinnier and skinnier. I have to force her to eat some mushrooms or blossoms. I'm very worried for her and I don't have the slightest clue of what to do now.

I'm here by the pond. Mariposa is sleeping now. Anyone can come to help me to help her.

Sincerely,
Marie Antoinette

"I am Marie Antoinette," she responded slowly. "Do you know how to help her?"

The doe looked down at her sleeping friend. She was very malnourished- anyone could tell that from just how she looked. But yet her butterfly wing markings remained. Though slightly faded from the dust she neglected to wipe from her fur, but still there.

brd's smile showed from below his mask. He knelt to nuzzle his face between the butterfly doe's neck and the forest floor, so that as he pushed to his feet, his neck pushed hers and his shoulder met her chest, raising her head and shoulders with him. Her forefeet had no option but to fall beneath her as her chest rose several inches from the ground. If her legs didn't support her weight, brd would. Though he was not yet the size of an adult, his young body was strong and able to bear the listless female.

Atticus sat in a mushroom

Atticus sat in a mushroom circle, settled into the soft soil and sunlight with his mate, Silver. It had been a relaxing evening, they had made their way down from the grassy knolls and rustling grass, to enjoy the atmosphere by the pond. They had been lying together, her cheek against his warm belly and nose in his silk white fur. But when her ears flicked, and she lifted her head slightly, he turned and gazed down at her sleepily. "What is it darling?" Her large eyes blinked and her lips were parted hesitantly, watching something in the distance. His long ears lifted as he followed her gaze, and saw a group of three deer by the pond. He sensed something odd about it, though their shapes were slightly blurry to him. From what he could see, a young buck was nudging a doe to her feet, he pushed her to stand, and she did. But looked away. Her head fell and she began to utter strangled chokes. Atticus turned again to his mate, her small face was looking at him intently, her dark eyes round. "Atticus somethings wrong with her," she whispered urgently. "You heard the way she choked when she stood." His blue eyes drifted back to the group of deer hovering near the water. "Alright, we'll see what is going on," he soothed. Silver seemed relieved, and was quickly on her feet and trotting in their direstion, though she paused before she was out of the shade of the trees, waiting for her husband. He stood and shook, his large tail fluffing and and hind legs kicking a little, before joining her.

Just for a visual- Atticus is the white rabbit deer in my siggy and Silver is the black one. (: She's a mini and he's just huge. lol

-Note- Atticus has somewhat poor eyesight, it's hard for him to see long distances, but very sensitive hearing. And he's chubby. But he's the burly kind of chubby. lol Broad shoulders and strong and whatnot. His human version is a chef so.... Yeah. Enough said. xD

At the feeling of her single choking spasm, he carefully sank to his knees and let his head touch the ground, depositing her where she'd lain and removing himself to sit beside her, monitoring her reaction.

They paused at the edge of the clearing, before Silver flitted up to them and Atticus approached slowly. He had noticed the buck move to shield the sick doe, who had tucked her legs close and was lying shivering in the grass... But he was used to such reactions. His mate smiled as she approached the group. She dipped her head to the doe, then to the buck. "Hello, I'm Silver," she said. The other doe smiled politely, glancing nervously at the large stag behind her. Silver looked back at her mate, before making eye contact with the buck. "This is my mate, Atticus. We were wondering if we could assist you, in any way." The white stag bowed graciously, smiling pleasantly, his ears slacking. The younger male's muscles seemed to unbind and the black hair along his spine flatten. "We could not help but notice your friend, eh, she is very sick?" the new stag inquired. The buck's ears flicked at this newcomer's strange accent*, his eyes also had an unusual look about them, pale blue was an uncommon color... He was not of any forest he knew.

Marie nodded to the stag who

Marie nodded to the stag who helped Mariposa. She managed to help Mariposa balance herself as she was swaying side to side with a blank expression on her face- so distant. Once the two were lying down, she immediately went back to the pond for water. But this time, she was looking for a larger thing to transport the water. Antoine had not noticed the strangers approaching them.

Mariposa coughed again. Her throat was very dry and it felt sore. She rested her head on the ground, her long black hair sprawled out on the ground around her. The withering doe peered through the harsh sunlight to find glimpses of what was happening. There was a doe at the pond, knee-deep in the water and then a male standing beside her, but she could only see his hooves, really...And then two strangers coming. So many people...

The attention that she had longed for for years was no longer there. Now all she cared about was being alone.

Mariposa couldn't bear the sunlight anymore. With a whimper like a little child, she squirmed and wiggled on the ground to get into a balled up position. Her hair now covered her face. The doe shut her eyes tightly, willing to fall back asleep.

They stood watching as the doe who had been motionless for so long shifted. Shiro blinked, watching her closely, hoping for some other movement... But there was none. Atticus glanced over at him, "If I may, perhaps I could help," he said calmly. Shiro nodded. He didn't know what this large male could possibly do to make anything any better but... He wasn't about to stand in the way. Atticus nodded in return and walked up to the doe on the ground. He tilted his head, observing her. He caught a glimpse of her eyes peering at him through her tangled hair. He slowly knelt beside her, his tail curling around her softly. Her eyes widened. He smiled quietly at her, before gently nosing her with his face. She flinched, but he continued, before whispering, his voice rich and calm "Þú ert veikur ... Ert þú ekki?" Her eyes shifted quickly, and she lifted her head slightly. What was he speaking? She understood, but... Her voice was scarcely audible, and she was frightened. "Get away from me." His blue eyes softened, and they seemed to glow slightly. "Ég vil bara að hjálpa þér litla," he hushed. Mariposa glanced at the young male who was standing a yard or so away. Shiro backed away, staring in confusion. Could they understand him? By the looks on their faces she doubted it but... Her eyes slowly were drawn back to his. She felt strangely warm, the aching in her chest began to fade. "What are you? What are you doing?" she asked, trembling, but not from fear now. She began to feel as though her fur was tingling. He chuckled. "My dear," he began, "even when it seems you are too far gone... There is always hope." His pale eyes burned white, and gold marking on his face began to surface, "Þú hefur ekki verið yfirgefin. Marie er vinur þinn, nei? Hún þykir vænt um þig, djúpt ... Með tímanum munt þú lækna. Þú verður að hækka núna og drekka." By now Marie was standing in shock, watching as the white stag breathed strange words to her friend. She saw a tear slip down Mariposa's face. "But what if I can't go on?" Mariposa cried softly. "What if I have no strength?" Atticus' eyes began to fade, and the markings faded as well. "Oh but you will," he replied. He nudged her gently, and she rose, leaning against his broad shoulder. Atticus turned to Shiro, who stood in stunned silence. He motioned to the weak doe. "You should take her now.... She needs to drink."

Neither Mariposa or Marie

Neither Mariposa or Marie knew the language they were speaking. Mariposa's throat hurt to much for her to speak. Plus, she refused to speak anyways.

Mariposa cringed away at the sight of the deer. Hesitantly, she stood up with Shiro. Her legs were trembling a little because she had now spent to much time lying down. And she was very malnourished. Marie Antoinette quickly went by Mariposa's side.

Atticus stepped aside and watched them with concern as Mariposa was led to the water. He felt a familiar touch at his side, and looked down to find his mate smiling at him. "Are you alright?" she asked quietly. He bent low to kiss her sweet face, to clear the worry from her small features. "Oh yes, tired that is all... But, it is äärel, I only need to rest." She knew he was referring to the dream-like state he went into. He did not do it often simply because it was exhausting. They stood silently, watching as Shiro guided Mariposa into the shallows.

Mariposa stumbled forward, gasping faintly, still dazed. She hesitated, but soon touched her lips to the water and began to drink. Slowly at first, but she soon had her hoofs planted in the mud and was swallowing steadily. She hadn't realized how dehydrated she was. Shiro stood beside her, keeping a watchful eye. Behind them, Atticus had eased into the grass and was washing his chest, smoothing his ruffled fur down. Silver had walked up to Marie.

Mariposa shifted her eyes to the ground, unsure and uncomfortable. But she had to succumb to the command as she knew she would only be asked once more if she did not obey. She lapped up the water in very small gulps, as it hurt her throat to drink it. Then the doe lifted her head from the water and made a face like she had tasted something sour. Mariposa shook her head and made another whimpering sound.

"Please keep drinking, Ra- I mean, Mariposa," Marie pleaded to Mariposa. But the doe just shook her head in response.

Please keep drinking," the last phrase mimicked Marie's words, carrying the same inflection and tone.

Marie began to clean out the leaves, twigs, and other rubbish that was entangled in her hair. She also, along with Brd, gently cleaned her sides of the dust. The water dripped over the doe's pelt and then trickled down her legs, revealing once more the silver markings on her skinny legs.

"Come on, butterfly," Marie coaxed gently a she massaged her side and rid of the dense coat of dust. "Please show your wings."

Marie looked at Mariposa, her expression pleaded and begged of Mariposa to drink more water. But Mariposa ignored her, and the others. After a while of just standing there, Mariposa slowly walked deeper and deeper in to the waters. She stopped once it almost reached the top of her legs. Marie watched in awe, but also in worry. Cautiously, Marie ambled forward a few feet.

Mariposa stood there for a few moments and then leapt forward and dove into the water. She didn't move her body, so she sank, slowly, to the very bottom. Her hair drifted and swirled all around her as her body landed on the surface of the pond. Mariposa looked up, watching the ripples of the water appear and then fade- a pattern.

Mariposa looked up as she saw the stag falling deeper into the water. Gracefully, Mariposa kicked off the floor of the pond and gave Brd a little kick with her hoof. From the little push, his body began to float back up. Then the doe weakly pressed his body upward with her head. As she brought his body back to the surface of the water, Mariposa let her body limply float around the surface of the water.

He blew water from his nose

He blew water from his nose and shook his head violently to get it out of his ears, treading water as he got his bearings. Eyes bleary, he kicked half-blind to where only her head floated above water, the rest of her an indistinct dark shape below the surface. Her nose was so close to the water that her breath sent little ripples slicing outward, eyes shut meditatively.
Although the forest beyond the banks was little more than smudgy greens and doubled trees to him, something pulled in his chest. She must go there. While catching his breath, he blinked and squinted into the water. Taking another deep breath, he forced his head below his feet, dragging his box-like body with it, one, two, three kicks of his legs down, until her silhouette blocked the light coming from above. With several more forceful kicks her back broke the surface of his water, as did his face, though water filled his open mouth and he coughed and sputtered, clenching his teeth shut and breathing through his nose instead.
The long, slender doe was dragged sideways through the water, a red and white mask and two dishlike ears gliding along in front. The water on the surface was serene, masking the furious effort of the young stag's legs.
This strange sight made its way steadily to the banks. Not directly back to Marie, but further down the bank, closer to the hill of the white statues. brd hauled himself swiftly out of the water several feet with eruptive splashing before Mariposa's weight on his back pinned down his haunches and long back legs. Forefeet buried in the wet, sandy soil, he lay for a moment in the dirt to rest, chest heaving.

(Yaaaay! Action!)

There was a crash, and suddenly the peaceful scene was broken by splashing water and desperate cries. Silver's head jerked up in time to see Shiro's hindquarters dive into the water; she leapt to her feet, shocked. Atticus's large long ears lifted and he stood, "What is it what- Where are they?" Silver's eyes widened as the surface of the water began to smooth over. They didn't resurface. Her eyes met those of Marie. "They're in the water!" She dashed down to the bank, her small black hooves tossing up clods of soil. When she reached the edge, all that was left of the scene were ripples. Atticus galloped to her, his large splayed hooves sinking into the wet grit. Marie glanced over at them, horrified. But as quickly as it was over, a blur of black pronged antlers shot out of the water and the orange coat of Mariposa, slick with the water and rid of dust, gleamed in the sunlight. They stood stunned for a moment, before running along the edge of the pond as Shiro paddled to shore with Mariposa. As they reached them, they could see Shiro lying exhausted with his face in the sand, Mariposa limp on top of him, was she breathing? "Oh Herne," Silver gasped. Atticus dropped beside them, nudging Mariposa until she was lying beside Shiro instead of on top of him.

Mariposa jolted her head forward from the small voice, her eyes at first cold and stern, but quickly turned to shock, surprise, and even affection all at the same time. There was a time when Mariposa cherished young fawns for their cuteness and innocence. There was some part of Mariposa that recalled this as her gaze followed the fawn as she lied down beside her. Her presence...her warmth emitted from its small body. Mariposa had forgotten how this had felt. It brought a tear to her eye and before they knew it she was silently sobbing.
