Watching over (Snow shortstory)

Writing for SnowSauria for Drawing Quad as a wolf. Since you refer to Snow as an 'it' due to being a hermaphrodite, that's what I decided to go with as well. Enjoy Eye

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The muntjac was curled up on a bed of flowers. A nice dream played in its mind, and it kicked its hind legs slightly, imagining running in an open meadow. Snow called out in the dream, listening, hoping it wasn't alone.

It felt warmth on its belly, looking around it saw nothing but wildflowers in the meadow. What was causing this gentle warming?

Snow opened its eyes, half-awake. The creature looked down to see a small fawn had curled up by it, her little body pressed up onto Snow's green belly. Blinking for a few moments, Snow yawned and its head rested back on the flowers. The added warmth was comforting to it, and very easily it began to dream once again.

But this time, the fawn was in the meadow as well. She looked up to the creature before her. "Hello there! What would you like to do today?", the fawn asked. Snow was hesitant, but then asked, "Hide and seek?" The fawn's face brightened, and she darted off into the tall grass, calling, "You'll never find me!"

A few moments of silence, only the sound of the gentle breeze brushing past the flowers and grass. Snow smiled, taking a deep whiff of the air. It could smell the fawn, but only faintly. The flowers seemed to mask her scent. The muntjac followed the scent, getting stronger with each step.

"Oww!", Snow heard the fawn cry nearby, "Hey where did you come from?"

"I don't know, I got lost out here!", another voice spoke, a slightly deeper tone to it. Snow tilted its head, and peeking through the grass, it found two little fawns whispering to one another.

"Oh, you found me! You're really good at this game!", the girl fawn spoke. Snow then noticed that the other fawn was a little boy, with more ruffled fur. He smirked, "Good thing you're not a monster or anything!", he said jokingly.

Me? A monster?, Snow thought. But shook its head, "No, no, I'm no monster."

"You'd have to go RAAAWWWRRR to be a monster!", the boy fawn laughed.

Snow smiled, and without warning, shouted, "RAAAWWWRRR I'm going to get you!!"

"Aah! Monster!!", the fawns cried with excitement, scrambling to their little hooves and vanishing into the grass. Snow laughed happily, chasing after them, sniffing the air. It circled around them quickly, the fawns giggling and trying to be quiet. The muntjac knew exactly where they were, but it was playing with them.

"Shh!", the girl fawn shushed. Snow crept so quietly that they didn't hear her. She poked her head through the grass, right behind their heads.

"Gotcha!", it said. "Aah!!", the fawns cried, both falling over and laughing. "We've been gotten!!", the boy fawn shouted, pretending to fall over dead. The act was hilarious and all three of them were laughing and nudging one another.

They ended the game there, finding an open clearing where they could catch their breath and relax. The three looked up to the clouds, watching as some resembled deer, trees, and even pictograms.

"I never asked what your names were...", Snow admitted to the two fawns. "My name is Snow.", it said to them.

The two fawns looked to one another, and then back to the muntjac. "Your name can't be Snow!", the boy fawn said, "That's my name!"

"No way!", the girl fawn shouted, "Snow is my name!"

The three looked to one another curiously. "So wait, all of our names are Snow?", the adult among them asked.

"Looks like it...", the girl spoke.

"Neat! Haha!", the boy laughed.

A moment of silence as they thought about it.

"You know what? I think I understand why all of our names are Snow! I think you two are...", the muntjac began to say, but then it woke up abruptly. It looked around, finding itself alone in the Endless Forest. The fawn who had slept by it was long gone.

Did I...just meet my masculine and feminine sides?, Snow questioned in its mind...

That was actually quite a challenge referring to Snow as an 'it'. XD But I'm glad you enjoyed it. I can imagine Snow much like my dachshund, Brandy, since you said it was dog-like, so I kind of based the personality a little on how Brandy might act.

You did a good job using your dog as reference, you got Snow's personality quite right. ^^
