Sparx - Heartbroken

Latte's picture
When I woke up that morning I new something was different. For one the bush Serenity and I slept under was cramped, the branches and thorns were sticking in to me and Serenity was taking up nearly all the room.
Damn bush. I thought, obviously not thinking clearly. How could a bush of grown so much in one night, enough to smother two fawns? I pulled myself out from under the bush and shook off any leaves or twigs. My head felt heavy and I felt taller. Thinking I'd just caught a cold I went to inspect my fur for any scratches from the twigs. Then it hit me.
I'd grown into an adult deer!
My fur was a brilliant orange, like the burning flame deep in the sun, and on several spaces there were brown-black stripes. My head felt heavier because of the fan antlers portruding from my head, they covered the space by me. An excellent sheild and weapon, I thought. I trotted around the small clearing where Serenity and I slept, testing my new strength and headbutting trees with my antlers.
Had Serenity grown to? I cut the bush away from her with my new antlers to check. Her pelt was a beautiful snowy white with a pearly-blue tinge. It had pink specks faintly patterned onto it and her hooves had turned that same pinkish colour. Her face was a deer's face, like mine, and instead of antlers she had feathers growing from her neck and skull. They were not Peacock feathers, or Magpie feathers. They were Snowy owl feathers, white with black dashes sprinked across them.
She woke up and I saw that her eyes had become even more beautiful. Her eyes were normally and eggshell blue but now they had been flecked with silver streaks.
" S-Sparx..? " She asked, wondering who the strange stag infront of her was.
" Yes, Serenity. It's me. " I assured her. Our voices were different, they sounded more..like an adults instead of an over-excited fawn's.
" Wow, Sparx. You grew up, Congratulations. " She smiled at me.
" Thanks, and you did too. Look. " I smiled back and gestured to her pelt. She gasped.
" The devout pelt...I thought deer with these pelts died out long ago. " She said, looking shocked.
" I think I have seen deer in the forest with them before, Serenity. " I told her, remembering a few times.
" Yes, Sparx. But not naturally, most deer's pelts start of as golden brown then they select one."
I nodded at this and said, " Want to go for a run? "
She grinned at me, " Race you to the pond! "

I enjoyed the run, I felt my muscles working under my new pelt, my strength pulling me across the ground further and faster. I loved to run, and with new speedI loved it twice as much.
Although I had become faster I still could not beat Serenity.
We arrived at the pond barely breathless. More stamina to, could this day get any better?
We bent our heads down and drank mouthfuls of the cool blue-green water, it was a beautiful afternoon. Birds sang their songs happily from the trees and butterflys danced along the lake, fluttering their wings for us to join them. And we did.
We hopped and twirled around the pond, the beautiful butterflies swirling around us. Monarch butterflies, Birdwings, Emperor Butterflies , Cabbage butterflies and many more that I don't know the name of. We were soon tired and sat down to rest at the edge of the lake our pelts brushing.
" That was fun! " Said Serenity, smiling happily. She looked beautiful when she smiled...
Ok , I admit it. I love Serenity, she's the most beautiful and kind doe I have ever met. When I'm around her I always feel happy and never want to leave her side, when she was captured and taken away by Death whilst she tried to save me once, I was so upset I was considering Death so I could go and see her in the ghost realm.
I brought her back to the world of the living instead, It's a long story..
" It was indeed, shall we go for a swim in the pond? " We were adults now, it seemed like a childish suggestion but she grinned and leapt from the steep bank into the water. I followed after her, splashing her.
We played in the pond for ages, splashing and laughing like two newborn fawns. Some deer trotted past and snorted, " Immature. "
But we didn't care, we just laughed and splashed them too getting their pelt soaked.

Swimming underwater was great, the fish came up to our faces and nibbled us curiously. Koi and Goldfish swam around us, their beautiful tails looked like a banner of silk behind them.
A strange deer called Shroud, who didn't talk to anyone in the Spring or Summer came to sit at the edge of the lake. We were underwater at the time so he didn't notice us. When we burst from the surface he screamed like a doe, it was so funny we rolled around in the water getting tangled in pond weed.

There was nothing else to eat and we were hungry - Serenity suggested we ate the pondweed.
It did not have the same rich, earthy taste of grass. It was sloppy and hard to chew and tasted of slimy fish. Serenity, however, loved it.
So I ate the flowers from the pond, they taste sweet like honey.
I would recommend them to you if you happen to be passing the pond on a warm day and feel like swimming...

When the sun began to set we lay on the banks drying our pelts in the warm.
I heard hoofbeats approaching us, I new the smell of the deer right away.
A stag had passed us when we were in the pond, I couldn't help but notice he kept on looking at Serenity.
We stood up to greet him, he had the bluish black Beluga pelt and wore huge white antlers. His eyes were a dark sparkling blue, I immediately hated him. I bowed back stiffly and Serenity curtseyed.
His voice annoyed me the most.
" Hello there, I don't belive I have seen you in the forest before? " He said with a smile, I felt this question was aimed at Serenity more than me. I said nothing, I just bowed my scowling face, Unable to watch without hurtling myself at the stag and goring his face off.
Serenity smiled back,
" I only just grew up today. My name is Serenity, and you are? " Since when did Serenity talk to deer other than me? Her sister, Latte, and her never spoke to anyone. It was an honour they selected me to become their friend.
" My name is Tamerac, Congratulations and Happy Birthday! " He said, flexing his muscles. This was a warning sign it meant : Back off. Aimed at me, of course. The fur along my back fluffed up and I gritted my teeth, I would not be rude to him. Incase I upset Serenity.
" Why, thankyou, Tamerac. " She replied not noticing his threat to me.
" Say, would you like to go on a walk with me this fine evening? "
I snorted at the invitation. "You can see your.. " He looked me up and down disapprovingly. "..Friend, later. "
"I would love that, see you later ok, Sparx? " She smiled one of her brilliant smiles at me then walked off with him.

I stood there, shocked.
Tears burned the back of my eyes and I shook my head.
I could not cry, I was an adult now. I tried to walk off but my heart was broken. I forced back sobs and tears but it was no use. I needed a quiet place to cry alone.

Hurridly I trotted away from the area Serenity and Tamerec were when I was stopped by a kind and friendly voice.
" Exscuse me..Are you alright? "
I turned around to see a doe lieing down by the pond at her side was a little fawn with a floppy fringe covering its eyes. The doe's pelt was the devout pelt, she had black feathers as antlers, more like a crown and on her face she wore a mask that looked like a china doll's face, it was beautifully crafted.
" I-I'm fine. " I stuttered, a sob catching on my voice.
" You don't sound " Remarked the fawn.
" Hush, Noodle. " Said the doe, " My name is Skuturz. And you? "
I could see she was helping me take my mind off things and maybe it would work.
" My name is Sparx. " It didn't work, a tear threatened to drop from my eye.
Skuturz smiled sympathetically, "Theres some stones shaping a sort of shelter at the playground, no one goes there much. " She was a suggesting a place for me to cry alone, I nodded a thanks and galloped off.

As I approached the playground I noticed Serenity and Tamerec walking togther not far off, I hid behind a tree to watch. My heart breaking every moment I watched, but I couldn't help it.
Their pelts were brushing as they walked and I noticed Serenity look at a pinecone to eat hopefully, but it was too far up. Tamerec saw her look and sprang off the ground, caught it in his teeth and landed. Serenity giggled and ate the pine cone with him.
Angry tears burned my eyes and I ran to the little shelter, there I pushed my face in the ground and cried.
My sobs were muffled and I cried so many tears I could not seem to cry any more, all I could do was sob helplessly.
Night was falling and the sound of a cricket playing his violin sadly and synapthetically was my only company.
Although Latte and I did not talk much I wish she were here. She went missing a week ago..we belive she turned into something involved in her past growing up with wolves.
Then a voice came to me out of the darkness.
" Exscuse me, Mister Sparx. Are you ok? " I recognized the voice as the little fawn that was sitting by Skuturz, Noodle her name was.
" I'm fine. " I said, no life in my voice.
" I don't think so...why are you so sad, my mother is worried about you, you know. "
" You wouldn't understand, and your mother sent you..? " I felt slightly angry she thought sending her fawn to spy on me would be ok.
" No..I came on my own. She worries about all the sad creatures in the forest. I hate seeing her worried. " Said Noodle, sounding ashamed. I suddenly didn't want the fawn to go away.
" It's Ok, I guess. Why I am upset is hard to explain.. " I tear rolled from my eye and Noodle lay down by my side. I didn't object. Every time I sobbed Noodle nudged or nuzzled me comfortingly. I soon fell asleep.

When I woke Noodle was asleep next to her mother. Skuturz must of come looking for Noodle.
I crept away silently. I decided I would do the things I did everyday when I was a fawn, when I hadn't met Serenity.
First I ate the grass, keeping my mind on the delicious taste. Then I went and rolled in the flowers beds, the butterflies swarming around me and seeming to laugh.
I was thirsty after that, so I ran the pond...and swerved away. I couldn't. It reminded me too much of...her. I went to the stream instead, the water was icy cold, great for the hot weather.
After drinking I went and let the water from the waterfall trickle onto my back. It accidently turned my pelt red which I had to sneeze off.
I searched my memory for things I did before meeting Serenity.
I used to go and play with other deer...

It was not long before I fround a friendly deer with a spotted pelt, deer mask and the 'whistle' style antlers. We sprang around and laugh-sat on fawns for a while, laughing even more. Then she did something so strange I nearly fainted in shock. She began to take springing leaps from the top of a hill, then carried on into the air and sat in mid-air.
She laughed at my shocked expression. "It's because we are closely related to Rudolph. "
I laughed at this. It was just forest magic, and she showed me how.
We danced and sat above other deer, watching them get confused at where our calls were coming from. Then we laughed and hung upside-down from mid-air scaring the deer looking for us.
" Vampires! " One shreaked.

As quickly as I met the deer, it had to go and I walked the forest alone.
I decided taking an afternoon nap at the big oak would be a good idea.
As I approached I nearly cried out loud.
Tamerec and Serenity were curled up together under the oak.
Both of them. Oak...
The words Serenity and together just didn't seem to fit into a sentence without the name Sparx in it.

I ran, and didn't stop. I wanted to run away, get away to a new forest. This forest was Endless though, it carried on the same circle. Pond, Oak. Ruins, Trees, Red soil, Pond, Oak...
The forest and trees were tormenting me, laughing at my struggle.
What could I do? How could I get Serenity back...?

What do you think Sparx should do? Feel free to comment any ideas..
