"Hn..."

Had a very tense reunion with Darcy after being absent for a couple of weeks.
He was extremely joyous to see Kumiko again, as she was with him, but Darcy's reaction to his arrival left him upset and confused.
Attempted to approach Darcy only to be met with taunts and antler-shaking.
Dejectedly, with some coaxing, he sat a little off to Darcy's side with Kumiko, willing to at least keep him company.
Darcy soon left their side, and Obake forced himself to be cheerful by playing a little with Kumiko, Herla and a couple of fawns.
Herla turned him into a mini, which further helped lighten the mood. The oni ran around in good humor, failing to be threatening.
Was saddened all over again when Kumiko left. He then followed Darcy's scent to the Gods Hill, much to his dismay.
Cautiously the oni approached, strangely not deterred when he saw that Darcy was praying. He remained vigilant, however.
Darcy then moved towards him while bearing the devout spell, causing Obake to flee as he believed that the monarch would use it.
Darcy pursued him to the playground, which only angered and upset the oni even further. They had a stand-off before D left again.
Stubbornly the oni followed him, and seeing that D was at his daughter's grave site he sat a distance away out of respect.
Was surprised when Darcy soon got up and beckoned him over. He did so, and the two sat together in silence.
Darcy was later persistently "attacked" by Herla, who kept casting animal spells on him and darting around.
Although amused, the oni got between them and attempted to discourage Herla, as he was afraid that a fight may break out.
Later on Herla returned again, and the oni beckoned for her to sit by him in peace. She did so, and the oni could finally relax.

Obake is an oni who is not only carnivorous, but also consumes souls on occasion.
This occurs when he is starving, doesn't wish to hunt or as an act of venegful spite.
He consumes just enough, rather than an entire soul, to satisfy himself.
The process itself is relatively harmless, and painless.
The side-effects are not severe, but include mild dizziness, nausea and fatigue.
Side-effects vary in strength depending on how much of one's soul he has consumed.
Obake prefers the souls of fawns and young deer, as they are more potent.
He is drawn to pregnant does as the unborn fawns are prime targets for soul consumption.
The process may be indentified by him circling and then nuzzling a fawn continuously.
He may be chased off, and will usually not put up a fight.

What shall we call you, Obaké?
A 'demon' as one may say?
But I see no demon, my friend
Who is to give these petty labels?
Be what you wish, who is to stop you?
It is not their life to live, it is yours
This hummingbird admires a truly living one

The little blue doe laughed

The little blue doe laughed at the other's comment. "Some call me very brave.. some call me very stupid. " Kaoori paused, looking up at the sky in thought. Then she spoke again. "Where I'm from.. those..two-legged creatures built stone temples much like the one here. Sometimes your kind was pictured in them. They were old temples. But .. do you remember anything of that sort?"
shinto's picture

Two-legged creatures?

Two-legged creatures? Temples? That all sounded so familiar... The demon closed his eyes for a moment as he attempted to search his foggy head for any clues. And then, briefly, he saw it: a structure built with the frozen faces of his kind. He could almost feel the smooth stone and smell the burning incense. With a small gasp of realization, Obake's eyes snapped open again. "I...I think I remember, yes. I saw it very quick, in my head. I know what temple is, now."

A frown formed on his face, and his ears twisted back in thought. "But these two-legged creatures... I know what you speak, and I barely remember them. They no good, though...they attack my kind, ward them away." He snorted, shifting his weight a little. The nerve of those creatures for scaring away demons that devoured people!

Quietly, the demon sits, watching the oni with unsure, yet curious eyes.
She breaks the silence with speach, her voice clear and stern, "Leviathann is a good friend of mine, and I do not trust you." There's a pause as she shoots him a glare; Umay was very suspicious of this stag's intentions. She never believed they were good, but was willing to tolerate him as long as he kept his distance.
"And as you must know," Her gaze averts from Obaké and down to the group ahead, mainly on the pregnant doe, "... she is expecting a child. So, you should know that if you decide to pull just one wrong move, I won't hesitate to hurt you in her defence. I do not wish for it to come to that, and I'm sure you don't. Let that be a warning that I will not need to repeat."

Even as the demoness

Even as the demoness approached, Obake remained fixated on the two deer that sat not too far ahead of him. His ears were back in concentration, his breathing shallow and his eyes glowing. When she spoke, however, he suddenly became aware of her presence and turned to look at her, seemingly unfazed by her choice of words. "I expect no one to trust me," he replied evenly, his eyes narrowed. "Though it seem you may relate to me. We are kindred spirits, demoness."

The oni snorted softly, his gaze returning to meet Crucio's own. "I know she is expecting. I would not hurt her, or child. I want to know her, but no one let me. You have nothing fear from me, this I assure." He snorted again at the last part, shaking his head slowly. "I no fear you, demoness. I not fear Death also, but I no wish to fight. If I must, then so be it. But I not be the one who start it."

(Why hello there! =D I am enjoying Umay; she is an interesting and well-played character.)

Umay returns her gaze onto

Umay returns her gaze onto the stag as he speaks, patiently waiting for him to finish. She nods in responce to his first two statements, unsure of how to reply to them. So, she decides not to.

"Good." A single word making her approval clear, though she was still unwilling to accept him fully, or even trust him.
Although 'demoness' was a welcomed title, she prefered to be called by her name, "My name is Umay." Her eyes soften, making it clear she didn't intend to bring harm. The female takes a stand, bowing to him quickly. Umay would accept him as long as he didn't hurt Leviathann, but for now she had to go.

She turns to leave, eventually dissapearing into the forest.

(Awwh, thank you. It's always nice to hear things like that. I can easily say Obaké is a very interesting character too, he's fun to interact with. I'm glad to have had the chance. <3

Her simple response was a

Her simple response was a surprise. The oni expected more from the demoness, but he was at least a little grateful for not being forced to waste his breath. Turning his gaze back to her, he looked her up and down carefully, noticing her curious features for the first time. She was certainly not like the other deer in the forest, appearance-wise. At least this could be one forest patron that he may bare his tusks around and not be feared for it.

When she spoke her name, Obake was taken aback. His ears pulled back curiously, and his eyes blinked from behind his mask. "Umay...a lovely name," he replied, charmed by how her eyes softened. "I am Obake," the oni added after a moment's hesitation, watching as she stood and bowed. He followed suit, giving a half-bow out of courtesy as he was wont to do.

He watched her leave silently, snorting softly in thought before settling back down upon the rock. Such a curious creature.

(You are most welcome, and thank you so much! I am very happy to hear that; I do hope that they may interact again soon. =) Also, no worries at all! It is perfectly fine, I understand. Good-night! ♥ )

The frightened tone in Kaoori's voice was disheartening to the oni, and his eyes softened. "Yes...they were here. But, it long ago. You no need to worry about them now." His eyes shifted to the side for a moment at her question, his ears sliding back in thought. "I no sure... I do not remember that life well, or what I used to be...so I not know what is best," he replied slowly, falling silent for a moment. "But if given chance, I go back to remember. This other place, it my home. I not belong here." With a sigh, his eyes returned to hers once more, and he tilted his head curiously. "Would you go back, Kaoori? Do you miss your home? At her immediate and disheartening response, the oni snorted softly. "Family...I know not what that is, but I hear it good thing. You lucky you have it. I glad that you safe here, that you are taken care of. Small creature like you could be hurt," he replied, the softness in his own voice surprising even himself. It was rare of him to show compassion, let alone give it.

As the blackbuck approached, the oni tensed for a moment, but then quirked a brow from behind his mask when the other stag bowed and addressed him ever so politely. Tilting his head, the demon replied thoughtfully, "Quad...hum. You not make me feel, euh, how you say...uncomfortable." He fumbled with the last word for a moment with his accent, and then coughed in embarrassment. At the mention of Kaoori, his glowing eyes narrowed. "Make sure she okay? What happen?" Glancing over at the small doe, he ran his eyes over her form, scanning for any sign of injury.

When he saw that there were no injuries, however, he sighed quietly to himself in relief and faced the blackbuck again. He found him to be interesting? "Hum...I am, as my gods would say, oni. Demon, to the two-leggeds. Here, I suppose I am like you, in a way," he replied, and then also added, "I am called Obake. I know not if this my true name, but I accept it."

[Kaoori]

That smile was oddly enlightening, and the oni's lips quirked awkwardly from behind his mask in turn. "Yes...it sound like you lucky. I cannot relate to family, but I glad for you. But I could offer help too, if ever you need it." His words were sincere; it seemed that for a moment he forgot what he truly was. And in a sense, he already had forgotten. After all, he barely remembered anything about his past life. Was becoming a deer the reason why he was able to show compassion? Had he become weaker because of it in turn? The oni cleared the thoughts from his head; now was not the time to dwell on such things.
Kaoori's picture

"A-ah.. so many have been

"A-ah.. so many have been hurt because of me before. I couldn't ask more to be hurt because of me." And it was true. The little shika had wished many times she was stronger; many had stepped in to help her before and had been wounded on her behalf, and she couldn't stand it.

Obake's eyes hardened at her response, and he shook his head slowly. "We all hurt in life, some more than others. It life, after all. But those who help you, get hurt for you...it because they care for you. That is one of the greatest things one could ask for." He tilted his head, surveying the emotions playing out on her face, in her eyes. She was hurting internally, this was clear; she felt guilty, saddened. The oni wished that that wasn't so; such a sweet soul shouldn't be so sad.
Kaoori's picture

Kaoori tilted her head,

Kaoori tilted her head, closing her eyes for a moment. "That may be so.. but I feel like I can do nothing for them in return. I'm so small, not powerful. I can't protect them." Her mind flickered to her lost daughter, and she shook her head slightly to clear the thought.
shinto's picture

Do not feel bad, Kaoori; sometimes we cannot protect those we love. Sometimes, it beyond our control." A strange feeling suddenly seized him when he spoke those last words. Sorrow? As his chest tightened, the oni's eyes squeezed shut. What was going on? Was he...starting to remember something? Yet, his mind was still foggy. It was all so confusing...

Her concerned inquiry was most unexpected, and his eyes flew open as he stared at her for a moment, stunned. "I...euh...yes, I fine. I just...I think there something that happen to me that I not remember. About someone being hurt, and I couldn't protect them. But I...euh, I not know. My head feel like it explode." With a groan he shook his head, and then sighed heavily. "I suppose there much I not know about, but it may be best I don't know. Euh..."

A snort escaped him, and he flicked his head to readjust his mask. "But as I say, Kaoori, do not despair. There is good in you, so much good. That your greatest power, and not many have it. Anyone can fight, but no everything can be as selfless as you."

Oh, he wasn't in pain...well, not physically, anyway. She needn't worry about that. A sigh of defeat escaped him, and his eyes locked with the shika's as he respectfully inclined his head. "It kind of you to say so. I hope I remember...but at same time, I hope not. But I suppose whatever happens, happens." The oni blinked at the invitation; the little doe was just full of surprises. "I...euh. Thank you, Kaoori, for giving me chance. I happy I could see you tonight." Happy? He couldn't help but feel a little awkward with all of these positive emotions that were flooding him.

With a small cough, the oni rose to his feet and gave a half-bow. "I go now, but I bid you evening. I hope we meet again soon," he said earnestly, smiling a little from behind his mask though she wouldn't have been able to see it. Probably a good thing, too; his maw wasn't terribly pleasant to look at. He felt a little apprehensive about leaving, but Quad was here now...she should be safe. Yes, she'll be safe. The oni walked away slowly, wanting to give her enough chance to call him back if she so wished.

The sweet aroma of cherry

The sweet aroma of cherry blossoms lingered in the air, mixed with the familiar burnt incense. The smell brought back faint, distance memories to the twilight doe as she followed its alluring trail. Images of a quiet village nestled into the flowery mountainside and visions of a smiling man filled her head. Like faded photographs. Why did this scent of crushed, burning flowers being these memories back? Were they memories at all... Or just forgotten fantasies? Dreams? Visions? She was unsure, but the one thing Kumiko knew for certain as that this scent belonged to a demon.

The miko blood within her stirred anxiously as she wandered over the hillside and gazed down into the field below. There in the setting sunlight, stood a darkened stag. Yet despite his fearful face, the doe looked down at him with a sweet smile. Everything within her veins telling her otherwise, but her heart knew differently. He may have been a demon but he had not shown any reason to be alarmed since their first meeting. In fact, she had grown to enjoy their past romps.

Slowly, she approached. Trying to not intrude on his evening. "Konichiwa, oni," she softly spoke. Somewhat amused by the fact that her native tongue still flowed smoothly from her lips despite the years it had been since she last spoke it. However, she dared to not use Japanese in more than a few phases. "It has been quite sometime since I had last seen you in the Forest. I was beginning to wonder if something had gone wrong..."
shinto's picture

In truth, the miko could

In truth, the miko could never be capable of intruding on his evening. More often than not the oni was content to keep to himself, lest he was graced with the presence of a deer whom he was charmed by. Of course, Kumiko was no exception to this, and despite having only met her a couple of times her scent entered his memory. His eyes snapped open, for he had been meditating from where he sat in the lilac patch near the ruins. The sound of dainty hooves upon grass caused his ears to swivel, and with a skip of his heartbeat he glanced around to see just who he was expecting. But wait...the miko was approaching him, rather than the other way around? It amazed him to see just how much trust the doe put into him, especially given her background.

That familiar language slipped from her lips, and the oni raised a brow from behind his mask. It sounded so natural coming from her, and he was inspired to return the gesture. "Konichiwa, miko," he murmured, surprised by how fluidly he spoke the greeting himself. This connection he felt with her was incredible, almost overwhelming. The concern in her voice, along with her words, floored Obake. Had she been worried about him? Why? Tilting his head, he replied in his deep voice, "No...I fine, miko. Not much hurt me." He added a little grin to that last part, a tiny bit of arrogance seeping through.

Tilting his head to the other side, he rose to his feet and slowly closed the distance between them. As tempting as it was to circle around her, he refrained from doing so; he certainly didn't want to scare her off. Gingerly, he leaned forward to sniff at her mask before leaning back to briefly examine her with his glowing eyes. "You, euh...I trust you been well? Not hurt, are you?" Perhaps it was a silly question, as she did not appear to be hurt. However, he was never very good at starting conversation.

As the oni rose, the doe took

As the oni rose, the doe took a step forward. Helping to close the distance between the two. His glowing eyes seemed to study her intently as he spoke. Her ears flickered with excitement to hear the forgotten language flow just as fluently from him. The corners of her lips rose, exposing an amused smile beneath the bird mask she wore. Hmm.. A soft, sigh of relief escaped her as she looked up at him with sparkling, yet tormented, eyes. It was relieving to her to be in his presence. Almost like a sanctuary from the dramatic life she had recently been enduring.

Not hurt, are you? Kumiko's smile slowly faded as he spoke. She pulled her thin legs closer to her body in shame as her head doped slightly. Ears pulled back against her skull. Beneath the shimmering fur of her chest, a fresh scar could still be seen. It was faint; the fur slowly growing over it. How long had it been since the 'incident' occurred? Two weeks...? Three weeks? A month? She was unsure, but it had tainted her petite body.

Nonetheless, she quickly fixed a false smile back on her lips as her ears twitched above her head. She stood, with her front legs crossed trying to hide it. "I am fine, thank you for asking." Clearing her throat, she searched her mind for another topic. "Umm... Did I disturb you?"
shinto's picture

As oblivious as the oni may

As oblivious as the oni may have always seemed, seeing as how his days consisted of standing around and staring into nothing, hardly anything passed by his notice. He knew that something was wrong when the miko began to tuck her legs together, as if trying to conceal something. And then, he caught a brief glimpse: a faint scar beneath her fur. His lips curled from behind his mask, exposing his tusks although she would not have been able to see them. No, she wouldn't be able to see the expression on his face, but the glow in his eyes intensified as his blood began to boil. Who could have done this to her, this sweet and caring doe? He wanted to dig deeper...no, he shouldn't. He barely knew her, and had no right to pry.

The false smile that she forced almost saddened him. "Hrn...no, no. You no disturb me, that be impossible," he replied reassuringly, his eyes softening as he looked down at her. "I very glad you here, Kumiko. I...missed you," the oni added after a short pause. Every part of him wanted to move closer, but it also took all of him to resist. Still...she was so beautiful, even though she was a miko. His gaze shifted away for a moment, feeling embarrassed with himself.
Kumiko's picture

His bright, yellow eyes

His bright, yellow eyes seemed to change in intensity. At first, they seemed to almost burn like enraged flames. Flickering madly before gradually growing lighter. A few moments passed before they turned into a warm, welcoming glow as he gazed upon her. Kumiko tilted her head; intrigued by the unusual behavior of his eyes. For a moment, she found herself becoming lose in thought as she gazed into them. Like a moth drawn to a light, she stood dumbfounded before him until his stern, yet soft, voice broken the silence.

Her hazel eyes blinking as she regained a grasp on reality. His words were sweet, bringing a genuine smile to her face. Her pale cheeks flushing with red, as if someone had dusted fine power onto them. Her eyes gently looked over him, admiring the uniqueness of his frame and face. She had seen his look before, but from where? Old carvings and paintings from her visions? No... That could not be it... Could it?

The doe shook her head, chasing away the thoughts as she addressed him, "I...I missed you, too, Obake." She replied as she took a step to the side, somewhat flaunting herself as she walked.

(Ah, the glory of my internet randomly dying!)

When her eyes locked with

When her eyes locked with his, he had stood frozen, simply mesmerized by her own gaze in turn. Euh...what wrong with me?, he'd think to himself. She was a miko...he should hate her! But how could he? This miko...she wasn't like any of the others he had encountered. From the first moment he saw her, despite his underlying wariness, he knew that she was different. A kind and gentle soul, willing to accept anyone no matter if they were a deer or a demon. It was almost admirable, really. Wait...admirable? Clearly he wasn't thinking like an oni, or at least not that one that he had been in his past life...but should he?

He took in the genuine smile, the flush on her cheeks. He wasn't very sure what the latter meant, but something inside of him believed that it was a good reaction. It took him a moment to realize that the miko was looking him over, and he held perfectly still as if afraid of breaking her concentration. For a moment, he wondered what she would think of him. She was so beautiful, and he...well, he'd imagine that he wasn't very desirable. How would she even react if he were to remove his mask...no, he didn't want to think about that.

Kumiko's confession was surprising to him, and he wondered if she only said it to make him feel more at ease. Then again, she did seek him out on her own time. Curious... His yellow eyes followed her movements, taking in how she could move so gracefully. A small rumble formed in the oni's throat, but he quickly cleared it away as he walked alongside her. "I surprise you alone. Your friend, the stag...he not with you? And the little black doe...not her, also?" he asked, tilting his head curiously. For whatever reason, the thought of her wandering the forest alone at this time of night was almost concerning.

(Oh, dear...no worries! I was having connection problems myself, earlier. Also, I apologize for my long responses; yours don't need to be as long as mine, I just love to write when I'm in the right mood! =D)

So please do not feel like you have to sit by her the whole time. I'm normally not this inactive, but I've just been inspired with all this silly little silhouette drawings I've been doing.

Anyway... It depends on the situation for me. I'm pretty bad at getting RPs going, but the more the situation begins to unfold and develop, the more I get into it.)

Tension hovered in the air as silence once again rushed over them. But it was a tension that Kumiko not felt in years; since her early merger into a young doe. Electricity shot between them, causing the little doe's heart to flutter like a tiny butterfly trapped within her chest. Her smile remained as her glittering eyes sparkled in the evening light. The candles that sat upon his long, thin antlers cast a warm glow around them. Creating an almost romantic atmosphere as a nearby nightingale began to sing a sweet serenade accompanied by the orchestra of the crickets and trumpets of frogs. Even as he looked down at her with a mask red, carved to look furious, she felt no threat.

She tilted her head to the side as she began to think silently to herself. Before her was a demon... An oni... Something deep within her mind nagged at her. Old voices whispered within her ears, trying to tell her something. An exorcism prayer...? No, she could not listen. She shook her head and stomped her off, shooshing the unflattering thoughts away. Slightly embarrassed by her small outburst, she glanced away, trying to hide her face that grew even redder.

Your friend, the stag...he not with you? The question hit Kumiko like an arrow. Shot from the distance and aimed directly at her heart. And the little black doe...not her, also? Sighing, she closed her eyes as her head doped to the side. Her ears pulling themselves once against close to her head, brushing away the long bangs that hung down around her eyes. Her body grew heavy from grief as she looked over her shoulder, looking towards the hill where her two friends abruptly emotionally attacked each other.

Gulping away the dry feeling in her throat, she kept her gaze away from him. Trying to hide her glossy eyes from Obake, "Things are... complicated..." Her voice cracking a bit as she spoke, "I thought it would be best to... To let them be."

(Haha, perfectly

(Haha, perfectly understandable! I get a reasonable connection where I am, but it still randomly flubs from time to time. So if Obake happens to disappear, well, that would explain it! I absolutely don't mind them sitting around, and if anything, having Obake sitting around in general is pretty IC. And since Kumiko is sitting, well, it just gives him more of an excuse to be lazy. =P Inspiration is good! Please, don't feel pressured to have her run around in-game; I truly don't mind idling. I do it a lot in general, anyway. =) And, that is true. Even if I'm not in the best inspirational mood, my muse tends to kick in after a couple of posts. Well...hopefully!)

That tension, that electricity...oh, the oni could certainly feel it as well. He wasn't sure what to make of it, however, as he had never felt such a sensation before. Despite the odd and alien feeling it gave him, it was also pleasant and warm. And...desirable? Obake's ears began to swivel excitedly, although he struggled to maintain a calm and collected demeanor. He then couldn't help but notice that they were the only two deer around. It was almost as if they had the entire forest to themselves. The candles upon his tines flickered, casting a gentle glow on the miko. He found himself liking the way it changed the color of her fur, and the way the light caressed her face and accented her features made her appear even more beautiful...if that were even possible.

A low hum brewed in the oni's chest, his eyes fused on her form, not even bothering to look where he was walking. And then, her head was dropping, her ears pulling back insecurely as her posture slumped. Alarmed, Obake followed her gaze, and then looked at her with wide eyes as she choked out the words. The oni's heart sank; if he had known that his questions would have made her sad, then he never would have spoken them. As she stood hunched, he gingerly draped his neck across the base of her neck, his chest lightly pushing against her shoulder. "Kumiko...I sorry I upset you," he said softly, biting on his lip as he silently cursed himself. "I not pry, but...sometimes others need space. Bad things happen, but in the end, friends forgive." The oni barely even knew why he was saying these things, but he cared too much about the miko to not say them.

(I quite like the implication of the exorcism prayer. It'd be interesting if that were to happen at some point. Hm...~)

Obake's touch startled the

Obake's touch startled the doe at first. Her body stiffened as her legs locked below her heavy frame. Shivers shot down her spine. She had not expected the large stag to embrace her so...so tenderly. He was an oni; she was a miko. They should have been mortal enemies but as she felt the beat of his heart against her, she could not imagine him turning on her. Or her against him.

As she came to realize that his embrace was that of care, she let herself at ease. Her limbs loosening as she allowed herself to fall into him. She nuzzled her cheek gently into the softness of his chest, as she slowly lowered herself to the ground. Sitting straight and tall while leaning against him for support. The steadiness of his breath and compassion in his voice relaxed her. Despite what he was, she felt safe beside him.

"Of course you are forgiven," Kumiko said as her voice was muffled by his fur as she buried her face into him. A tear beginning to emerge at the corner of her eye as the fear of uncertain regarding her friends swelled within her. "You did nothing wrong. I am... Just worried about them... and there is nothing I can do..."

When he felt the doe's body

When he felt the doe's body stiffen, he froze up as well. Perhaps he was being too forward or intruding with the contact; after all, it wasn't so much instinctive as it was willing. What he was doing now, this ability to comfort, or at least try to...it was foreign to him, and yet now it was coming naturally. For a moment he contemplated backing away, but then the miko leaned into him. It took him a moment to realize that she was nuzzling into his fur, and his breath hitched. There was a time when he despised being touched; he would even become violent over it. But now, he welcomed it. He couldn't deny Kumiko, never.

As she spoke, her face buried in his fur, he stood still and listened. The miko was sad, now...defeated. When he looked down at her, he caught the shimmer of one of her tears in the moonlight, and he heart sank. "No...no cry, please," he said softly, carefully lowering himself beside her. His larger frame leaned against hers, offering all the physical support he could give. He felt so protective of her at that moment, and all he wanted was to see her smile. "No say that, Kumiko. You should not feel responsible for your friends' actions. This guilt...it unbecoming. You too hard on yourself." The oni's voice would become a little sterner, although not condescending at all.

(I am going to head off to bed in a few minutes, as it is late where I am. If you post after a leave, then I will reply to it tomorrow as soon as possible. I absolutely love Obake's and Kumiko's interactions~ =D)

[=]As the oni lowered himself

[=]As the oni lowered himself beside her, the miko allowed herself to become more limb. Almost as if she had loosen every tense muscle in her body. Collapsing gently against his sturdy frame and welcoming the support. In the past, she had the distant type. Afraid of forming bonds that she suspected would break. Having carried guilt for most of her life and being unintentionally forced to watch over those close to her, it was a welcoming feeling to finally be able to lower her own guard. To, for once, be consoled over being the weak protector.

A soft sigh of relief escaped from her lips as Kumiko adjusted her weight beneath her body. Allowing herself to inch closer to Obake. Seeping up the warmth of his body against her's and nestling herself in his scruff. From the distance, she seemed so small and insignificant beside the monstrous demon.

His voice became quiet and stern as he spoke. Trying to comfort her. The little doe gave a very faint wary chuckle as a small smile embraced her. She admired his attempts but there was so much he did not know, but how could he? He was a new face to her; surely he was oblivious to the sources of her pain or to the motivates that drove her behavior.

"Perhaps you are right," her voice was a sorrowful whisper as she closed her eyes, leaning heavily against him. "But is it not a friend's duty to protect one's friends?"[/]

For a moment the oni's eyes

For a moment the oni's eyes closed as she leaned into him, feeling her draw in closer until her weight was settled comfortably against his own bulk. He would shiver slightly as he began to feel her heartbeat against his side, her warmth seeping into his fur and skin. Realizing that his throat was dry, he attempted to swallow as he struggled to maintain his stoic visage. He hadn't been this close to a female in...well, never. He'd be lucky if he would be allowed near anyone at all, but it was usually he who kept his distance. So many foreign sensations were hitting him at once that he almost felt dizzy. And yet, it was a good kind of dizzy, somehow.

His eyes opened at the sound of her chuckle, and his ears slid forward as his thoughts were momentarily forgotten. There was that smile...and gods, the effect it had on him. From behind his mask, his lips curled softly, his eyes glowing with warmth. Even the smallest of smiles lit up her face, more-so than any candle could.

"Not so much to protect friends, no, but be there for them," he replied quietly. Laying his neck against hers, he gently drew her a little closer before shifting his weight, allowing his back legs to curl around her lower body. "To protect all friend is too much res-respon...responsibility." He'd enunciate the last word carefully, stumbling around it with his accent. "Some of us not strong enough in body, but in mind, they conquer. Like you and I. You smart, and I strong. But never do strength overcome mind," he added, tilting his head slightly. He hoped that he was making sense; even he didn't know what he rambled on about sometimes.
