Monday Afternoon ~ Short Story

Liëka lay on the warm rocks, peering lazily through her lashes at her daughters a good few lopes away. They were chatting idly, and laughing together. Liëka smiled. FIU was a few years older than , but you wouldn't know it, their maturity levels were so low together. Such a good thing they get along so well.

She watched as they spontaneously burst out laughing, and wandered over to the Pond together.

Liëka didn't remember much from her childhood, but she did remember how other deer would comment on how mature she was. Not surprising, really. She was, after all, still a fawn when she had taken the great responsibility for Him. She smirked. Yes, that would make anyone grow up fast. And in a way, Liëka supposed that she had missed out. Ah, the teenage years, supposedly full of mania and fun, full of never-never-never-wanna-grow-up-ness, while she was studying ritual and sacrifice.

But what was she thinking! This was the Endless Forest, the place of dreams. Even 'adult' deer still had the never-wanna-grow-up-ness. Just think of all the great button-mashers! To hell with maturity! Liëka giggled to herself.
And speaking of which...

The purple-haired doe found that she could not, after all, ignore the racket coming from over yonder as well as she thought she could. As she listened, another loud clang hit her ears, followed briefly by loud exclamations. Grinning, Liëka roused herself and galloped over to the noise source.

"What are you two up to, then?"

Iranu looked round quickly.

"Oh-hai!"

Liëka raised an eyebrow.

"We were just examining this thing we found. Uvavu reckons he can get it going!" he explained happily.

Uvavu looked round from where he was crouched, delight all over his face, and a sliver of flint in his mouth.

"Look! It's a sparkler-thing-which-make-sparks! It's our third, but I think this one got wet"

Having seen no possible source for the clanging sound, Liëka decided to ignore that thought and instead watched with amusement as Uvavu struck the flint on a stone, sending sparks flying.

Iranu took her aside briefly, and spoke with a great sense of urgency and importance.

"Who-ever gets the sparkler to light.... gets to keep it. That's the rules, you see. The rules may not be broken! And these sparklers are special. They last until they get put out. We've gone through two now, him me him me...."

Liëka nodded slowly and warily, wondering quite where this was leading to.

"....AND this is our third!"

Iranu's sudden grin was suddenly cut off at a yell of excitement from Uvavu.

"LIT it's lit, it's liiiit!"

"Haa-HAAaaa!"

Iranu ran back to his brother, and they both danced around the fizzing sparkler for a second.

All of a sudden, they faced each other over the sparkler stuck in the ground. Uvavu flashed a creepy grin at Iranu.

"Ah-ah-ahhh, now don't you dare. I see what you're thinking." he warned.

Iranu flashed a grin back, and grabbed the sparkler and ran. He leapt onto the highest playground rock, and made triumphant noises from around his mouthful. Liëka broke into laughter as Uvavu stalked closer.

"You there! On the rock! Don't move! We have you surrounded!"

"Yoooooou'll neva take me aliiiiiiiiive!" Iranu retorted, somehow managing to yell and creepy-grin at the same time whilst a sparkler went off in his face.

"Don't make me resort to desparate measures!"

"Oh you wouldn't!"
"Yes I would!"
"Ah, you wouldn't".
"I think you'll find I will!"

Liëka watched in amazement at Uvavu took a great stride closer, and Iranu fled. Round and round about the rugged rocks they go... she thought, as they leapt over and under rocks, laughing wildly.

In a blur of golden fur and burning ashes, Iranu + sparkler shot past.

"I'll slow you down! I'll slow you down all right!" Uvavu laughed after him, his srsface all but gone.
"You'll see, I'll get you! *Kum bai yah, mi Lordie, kum bai yaaaaah!*" Uvavu began to sing softly.

Iranu giggled on the horizon, firework blazing merrily. "No! No! Anything but!"

"*KUM BAI YAAAAAH, MI LORDIE KUM BAI YAAAAH!*"

Iranu dissapeared over the horizon, almost collapsing with laughter. Uvavu winked at Liëka, and dissapeared after him.

"Someone singing, mi Lordie, kum bai yah..."

Liëka listened to their retreating hooves and voices for a moment, then strode slowly back to her rocky perch, shaking her head in amazement.

"What was all that about, then?" FIU looked at her curiously, wet from the Pond. "I heard singing."

The Purple Queen looked over her shoulder for a moment.

"Oh... nothing. Just a Monday afternoon."

Okay, so I started typing, and that's what happened. *pokes* I didn't mean it to be so I + U orientated, ESPECIALLY AS I HAVN'T EVEN INTRODUCED THEM PROPERLY YET *kicks self*, but hey. It happens. And the picture is a doodle I did in school, it's been carried around in my blazer pocket for a while, and our scanner is terrible, so not much quality. But I felt the need to put it up there. XD Especially as it seems that that's where the story grew from.

Well, I said I wouldn't

Well, I said I wouldn't introduce them till they grow up, cos they don't fit well as fawns. But I have posted a dozen iScribble pics I've done of them. XD Maybe I will introduce them early, I dunno... writing them a page seems a lot of hard work, maybe that's why I'm putting them off. ^^; Laughing out loud
