This blog will contain attempts to explain my character Keith's ways of loving others, and also a list and minor explanation of those he has loved in the past, or loves presently. This blog would not be necessary for other characters because so far, they have stuck to the general love-one-person rule. Keith is different; he falls for others very easily, and may love a few people at any one time, but it is never in the same way, therefore there are always voids that cannot be filled. Feel free to track, comment, etcetera.
[ *indicates that feelings still remain, though in all honesty Keith never really fully lets go of his feelings for anyone. therefore '*' is an indicator of strong feelings. ]
Adelade
A requited love, blossoming whilst both were held captive, one willing and the other unwilling. Neither romantic nor platonic; something stuck inbetween, something that would never last but could have, if only Keith had let it. Adelade was his escape from captivity and he was the one that took the veil from her eyes. She fell pregnant with his children and disappeared into the otherworld, leaving Keith clueless until fate drew them back together after the children were born. Keith is still very fond of Adelade, but has not seen her in a long time.
Olivia
A one-sided romantic love, initially a competition between Keith and Mick whilst both were being held free-range prisoner in an otherworldly kingdom. The only female company available at the time, the queen-to-be was a contest for Mick and Keith, one which inevitably, Mick would win. Keith was left angry and upset, but kept contact with the queen-to-be, confiding in her and letting her do the same. He no longer loves her, but is fiercely protective of her despite rarely seeing her. Has somewhat abandoned his mission to get her out of working in a brothel.
Rajid
A fleeting love sparked by Keith's lies, making himself out to be someone that followers of a certain religion - Rajid's - would worship. Keith only did this to save his own life initially, but later kept it up only to keep Rajid with him. Was strongly drawn to the other's innocence and exotic appearance; something unfamiliar to the scruffbucket. Later, Keith's lies were discovered and upon being revealed as just another human, Rajid left him, betrayed. For a long while, Keith was still fond of him and missed him greatly, but has since gotten over this.
Kaza
A mostly platonic love sparked by a strong desire to get Kaza to open up to him. In the same circumstance as Rajid - who later turned out to be Kaza's brother - therefore he lied to her, too, but did not 'take advantage' of her as he did with Rajid. Again, he loved her innocence, and the ways in which she revered him. Treated her in a different way to the other followers of the religion that adored him, courting her, giving her gifts and sweet words. Was deeply hurt when she left him, having discovered his lies.
Keller
Someone that saved his life and kept him safe; finally, someone stronger than himself that he felt comfortable enough to lean upon. Despised the marks and bruises that the werewolf would leave upon him, but made sure to leave his own in return. A possessive, romantic attatchment to the other, one that was likely returned. For a long time, Keller helped Keith forget about many of his troubles.
Austere *
1 A highly complex relationship that has gone through several stages, few of them happy. Polar opposites with virtually nothing in common, yet the two could not seem to seperate. Finally Keith had found someone that he could conquer despite fearing their judgement, but at the same time, craved the sorcerer's love, approval and even praise - and was indeed afraid of him at times. In return Keith was someone that would not bend to the powerful creature's will, someone that proved to be different from every other human that Austere had encountered. However, their relationship was not destined to be a pleasant one; Austere, incapable of love, and Keith, unable to submit, ruthlessly stubborn. Recently, the truth of Austere's inability to love was discovered, leaving Keith torn and close to heartbroken, helpless. Yet, despite this, Keith finds himself unable to 'get over' the sorcerer, and is aware that when called for, he will go running back like the very dog he claims that he is not. A masochistic, selfish, desperately unrequited love.
2 He has found himself craving the sorcerer's attentions again, but with Fletcher to think about, he tries very hard to resist. Finds himself snapping frequently whenever the sorcerer turns up to visit him, and is constantly searching of ways to drive him off. Sickened by the thrill that runs through him whenever the sorcerer seems to threaten or frighten him. Genuinely frightened by the creature these days, yet still finds himself waiting for the sorcerer to turn up again, hopeful, despite being unsure of what the sorcerer could be capable of if pushed too far. Finds it difficult to believe that Austere would ever really hurt him, but knows he could harm those Keith loves.
Currently furious with the sorcerer for driving Fletcher from him. No longer understands what the sorcerer wants from him, and is torn between intense hatred and paralyzing longing for him. Still tries to avoid Austere at all costs and is usually happier when he has not seen the sorcerer for a while. Misses the way things used to be between them, but at the same time longs to be free of him.
Fletcher *
1 A mostly platonic love, very similar to that of Keith and Adelade, though Fletcher likely does not love Keith so much as like him. Keith is one of the few people that do not treat the blind man as a blind man - only a man. An awkward non-relationship, both recognising that there are feelings and a connection between them, and neither willing to take the first leap and do something about it. Keith is fiercely protective of Fletcher, but has recently gotten them both into serious trouble due to Keith's habit of being stolen away by residents of the otherworld who wish to harm Austere.
Recently, Keith escaped captivity, leaving Fletcher to his unknown fate.
2 After the situation was resolved, Keith found himself spending more and more time with the brunette. A great deal of tension resulted in confessions that the two liked eachother, though at first the scruffbucket could not bring himself to make any kind of commitment, afraid that Fletcher would wind up in the otherworld's grasp again because of it. Eventually he returned to the sightless man, admitting his feelings for the smaller again, this time unafraid. Cares for him very deeply, finding him to be the only person that he is willing to calm down and compromise for, as well as relaxing his ridiculously stubborn nature for the other. Would never tolerate seeing harm come to him - likely willing to do almost anything to keep him safe.
Lost Fletcher's trust after Austere intervened and managed to manipulate Keith into acting erratically and uncharacteristically, causing the blind man to think that he was insane. Tried to reconcile with Fletcher, but soon realised there was no hope. Promised to leave Fletcher alone for good after one last attempt at protecting him from Austere. Sank into a brief depression afterwards, losing himself in alcohol and drugs. Managed to get out of it soon after, defeated but accepting.
