Healing Touch (new character story)

I don't have a name for him yet, but this is a test story of a new character

Color used is #B1FB17

---------------------------------

The stag was helplessly at Iugulare's mercy. He tried to fight her alone, but the stoat was too quick for him, and even so, his antlers would not damage her viral body. He wore himself out trying to track her, and when he began to stumble, she took the opportunity to strike. The stoat bounded onto him, her paws gripping his shoulders, and at once she sunk her fangs into the side of his neck. He cried out, trying to shake her off, but nothing seemed to work. The stag lost his footing and toppled to the ground, shivering and struggling as the infection began to envelop him.

Pleased, the stoat released her grip. The damage had been done, it was only a matter of time before he would become another minion. She wasted no more time with him, and ran off.

He cried out for help. He was starting to lose his focus, the black infection was seeping down his body. The wound on his neck was not very deep, but it was enough for the virus to enter into his bloodstream. He was hallucinating, his legs going into shock, his breaths short and labored.

In the corner of his eye, he saw something approach. A snake had found him, he could see the black and yellow on it's body, though it was a blur to him. He closed his eyes, already expecting death to come.

The snake flicked his tongue, tasting the infection on him. "Rest, friend. Rest...", he spoke quietly, and quickly slithered onto the stag. He lay directly onto the infection on the stag, and spoke into his ear, "You have been badly hurt. There is something causing these attacks, I have not yet to find it, but I have helped those I have found. Some...some were too late...but you are not. Rest, it will be taken away soon."

The infection seemed to be attracted to the snake's body. The stag grimaced, the flowing virus retracted from his body and began to latch onto the snake. It passed through what the stag thought was skin, but sound soon realize that it was not a living creature, but...had strange, soft skin that the infection could pass through easily.

When the stag was cleansed, he stood, the puncture wounds on his neck began to bleed but would heal soon. He looked down to the snake, his vision starting to come back, and slowly he bowed his head, "Thank you...thank you for saving me..."

The snake gave a nod, and turned to slither away. His breathing was different than before, and he began to cough up some of the infection, which hit the ground and fizzed away. The stag saw one of his eyes was closed, or...not even there. There were deep cuts over the eye socket that had been stitched closed. I cannot save them all...but I will save as many as I can..., he thought to himself.

The snake was soon gone, and the stag went on his way, to rest by the Pond and heal. He never asked the snake his name...

Ooh, a snake! Good

Ooh, a snake! Good introduction too ^.^ Hm, I might be able to help with names, and I like making them up, what are looking for? I'm curious, he doesn't seem to know the source of the infection, but is an effective cure. How did he discover the power to do that? Or is it something you would rather not be expanded on until later? Also, who stitched his eye shut?

Thanks for the questions, it

Thanks for the questions, it really helps me work on his character.

I tend to like simple names, especially three letter names (such as Hex and Caw), four letter names (such as Quad, Pema, and Ayya) or five letter named (like Blixt).

I haven't really considered just yet how he discovered his power, after all he is a very new character. But I can explain that the reason why he can effectively absorb the infection is because he has no living tissue to infect. He is a stuffed animal, much like how Pema is a toy as well, that can move, think, and speak all on his own.

My thoughts, though, is that he and Pema were brought to the Endless Forest by an unknown force, and that instinctively he knew about his abilities.

The actual plush snake I got was missing an eye, so that is why he has a stitched eye. I wanted to write a story about that explaining that someone or something attacked him, thinking he was a bad snake, and thus his eye was injured.

Your welcome. So he is a

Your welcome. So he is a stuffed snake, how did he come to life? Was it by the same force that brought them to the forest? Where were they before they came to the forest? Did they have owners, and if so did they belong to the same one? Are you the owner? I saw your blog about Pema's eyes and saw that one of her eye colors was yours and that you were the controller.

Some names I thought up, you may have trouble pronouncing the second one, I was trying to explain it to my family and they didn't get it.

I actually haven't really

I actually haven't really decided how he and Pema came to life, but I would think that it is related to how they got to the Endless Forest. Before they would have been inanimate toys in a toy store.

Possibly I am the force that brought them to the Endless Forest, to help Quad fight off Iugulare. But how I brought them to life, I am not sure yet. That may have to be decided later.

They both would belong to me, as I have the actual toys of the two of them in real life. But where Pema is physically controlled by me as a marionette, the snake will be able to move on his own. Possibly he was born with Heterochromia iridium as well, but the eye he lost would have been a blue one (his other eye is yellow).

And the names are nice, though I'm not quite sure yet. Thank you for the suggestions XD

I just decided on what to

I just decided on what to call him. Much like Pema being named after Pema Chodron, who is a Buddhist monk and author I love reading from, I want to name my snake after Thich Nhat Hanh. I will either call him Thich or "Thay", which is a word often used for him that translates to 'teacher'.

Oh I like how he can move on

Oh I like how he can move on his own because of the blue eye missing, it's a nice touch. So how is he doing with his independence? Having recently come to life, how is personality developing? Would he have trouble adjusting to freedom? How close are he and Pema, are they often found together? Since Pema is also a toy can she absorb the infection too?

I hope you don't mind all the questions, I don't usually get the chance to question and find about a character in development, it's quite fun.

Edit: How did you...? Completely missed that post. But I'm glad you found a name, it fits ^.^

XD Sorry for not answering

XD Sorry for not answering this last night. Lessee...

Maybe during one of my meditation sessions, I somehow asked the Twin Gods to help Quad fight off Iugulare and her minions, and they answered my prayer by bringing Pema and Thich/Thay into the Forest. My thought is that the two of them were brought in separately, so they originally did not meet, but they will soon. The two of them have different knowledge, and when they work together, they can be very effective.

Pema understands that she is in a 'fictional' world, who I am, and that she came from somewhere else, but she has no idea what she is supposed to do. Thich/Thay, on the other hand, knows his capabilities, that he (and maybe Pema) can absorb the infection, and what he is supposed to do, but has no recollection of who he was, or how he lost his eye. Maybe at one point that will be revealed.

Because of this, he would not understand that originally he was controlled, so he would believe he is just a regular snake rather than a living toy. I wanted him to be more of a misunderstood character, as I feel snakes are often very misunderstood creatures. I've always loved them and hated how some people assume that they are 'evil' or have bad intentions. I want him to be quite gentle and peaceful, someone who would be a pleasure to interact with.

And thank you for the questions, you really are helping me with this! XD

Edit - I just realized... Thich/Thay would be like Buzz Lightyear, whereas Pema would be like Woody from the first Toy Story movie. XD!! Thich/Thay might go through withdrawals when he finds out he is really a toy.

Glad to be of help ^.^ This

Glad to be of help ^.^ This is all very interesting to read. Snakes are rather misunderstood aren't they? I've always liked them. Anyways he also sounds like he has a lot of room for development.

So would Pema realize that he is also a toy? Also how does he not recognize that he's a toy? I'm assuming that he remains his stuffed-like self rather than coming completely alive (e.g. living tissue and stuff) something that would be rather hard not to notice, and that I don't think he'd be able to eat without a digestion system.

Or perhaps since there aren't other snakes in the forest, he is unaware of how a snake should be and thinks he is normal for one? Or does he grow some resemblance of a real snake (such as scales and stuff) without actually gaining living tissue?
quadraptor's picture

Well I think Thich (I decided

Well I think Thich (I decided on Thich rather than Thay) would simply not know the difference between a living creature and a toy. He would genuinely believe he is just an ordinary snake, and he would still do snake-like things such as eating. But whatever he eats would simply pass through him without harm, since he has no organs to digest. So if he ate a mouse, for example, the mouse would just escape through a tear in his body somewhere unharmed.

Pema knows that she is a toy, since she is aware of where she originally came from, and also that she cannot control her body. When she and Thich met, she would certainly try to convince him that he was a toy, but he would not be so certain that he is a real snake. He would still be made out of cloth and stuffing, though, he does not ever get living tissue.

Ah I see. The eating thing

Ah I see. The eating thing was the thing I was wondering about the most. Um. I can't really think of any more questions right now. Maybe I will later. But Thich sounds great so far Smiling
