@NikaGika: She hadn't

@NikaGika:
She hadn't realized she'd tensed up until Nika stepped back again. She wasn't used to anyone invading her personal space like that. Except maybe family, or the children she taught.

"Yes, I'm still alive and well." She wondered if that line of questioning meant the other was not. "So you're also from the human world?"

@Mick:
He wondered if Kylar might ask what he'd been lost in thought over. But he didn't. Toukan was relieved by this...and not. He knew he'd have to talk about his worries sometime. But for now, he allowed the change in subject...while mentally beating himself over the head for allowing the change in subject.

The reindeer tilted his head at the question - but quickly moved it back when the antler leaned a bit more. He was just delaying the inevitable at this point, but it's not like he wanted to force the process along. The last time he'd done that, it hadn't been pretty. It had been pretty painful though.

"I'm not really sure what I want..." he answered, frowning in thought. Actually...he did have an idea of something...but he hadn't been completely sure about going through with it.

(PAGE. WOO. \o/ )

"I was," she said looking at

"I was," she said looking at the doe, "I died, and I was reborn here. And I keep learning new things about this forest." Her curiosity was getting the better of her, and she asked, "What time are you from? It seems that some deer come from different time periods." She gently sat down, hoping that would make Suiren more comfortable.
MickKreiger's picture

Kylar chuckled at that, he

Kylar chuckled at that, he saw that little frown – Toukan was thinking about something, which meant that he knew what he wanted.
“Come on,” Kylar said, “Whatever prompted that little frown, you can tell me about. I won't get mad – I mean, I might not be able to get it for you and you know how I hate to disappoint, but I can't try unless you tell me what it is.” He chuckled at the end of that to keep it light – all of it was light because he wasn't really serious about it because it was just a present, surely that wouldn't drag the conversation into solemnity again? He couldn't imagine Toukan asking anything that he would really consider too much – unless he wanted Kylar to dance around with fawns in some sort of bizarre synchronised dance manoeuvre.

That thought caused a louder laugh to escape him, the mere image of it causing him amusement.
“Sorry, just imagined something so strange...so very strange.” He rolled the r of the second 'strange', a sign of his entertainment.

Pegasicorn's picture

@NikaGika: She'd heard some

@NikaGika:
She'd heard some of the deer here had been reborn from lives outside the Forest. So Nika was as well. Interesting.

Suiren lowered herself to the ground as well, thinking it would be rude to remain standing while the other sat. "I assume I'm from the present...unless this forest is in its own timeline. In any case, for me it's the year 2013. A.D.," she added on just to be safe.

@Mick:
Toukan blinked, nearly tilting his head again but catching himself at the last second. "Ok..." He debated on asking what Kylar had imagined that was so amusing, but decided not to. For all he knew, it could be something about him. He must be quite the sight, standing around with one antler on his head that he was trying to keep from falling off too soon when it was obviously about to.

He tried not to snort at the image, instead giving in and answering the question. "Ok," he said with finality, "I've been thinking about getting my ear pierced." He hoped that didn't sound like a silly idea.

"2013?" she asked, amazed

"2013?" she asked, amazed that she was 713 years in the future. "What is it like? Do you still have knights, kings, queens?" and she asked a mountain of other questions, wanting to know everything about her time.
Pegasicorn's picture

Knights, kings, and queens?

Knights, kings, and queens? Was she from the Middle Ages?

Suiren could only blink at the rapid fire questions shot her way - still hidden behind her mask of course.

She was beginning to regret saying what year she was from.

She watched the doe and said,

She watched the doe and said, "I am sorry for asking so many questions, but it is so intruiging to meet someone from 713 years into the future." She smiled at the doe to show that she was interested in what she had to say.
Pegasicorn's picture

713 years? So she was from

713 years? So she was from the Middle Ages then.

"Ah. Sorry. Can't say I've met anyone from 1300 before." Suiren attempted a chuckle. "I'm just not sure how I'd explain everything different between our times."

"I suppose that is true," she

"I suppose that is true," she said, "But what would you say is the biggest difference?" She sat eagerly, waiting for the doe's answer. She wonder what it could be, and tried to imagine what the world would be like in her time.
Pegasicorn's picture

She barely had to think of an

She barely had to think of an answer for that one. "Probably electricity." A pause, filled by an unseen blink. "Which I'm not completely sure how to explain..." She gazed off in thought. "Somehow, people learned how to control lightning, even create it, and use it to power things. Like...light sources. It's much more reliable than using fire. And safer...for the most part." A basic idea. She was no expert, so that would have to do.

"Like a wizards and

"Like a wizards and sorcerers?" she asked, "They conjure lightening?" Such a strange thing, humans conjuring lightning to do their bidding? "Such a strange world the future must be," she thought, but was intrigued by what the doe was saying.
MickKreiger's picture

Well that was certainly

Well that was certainly surprising, of the many things that he had thought that Toukan might be about to suggest, getting his ear pierced hadn't been one that had occurred to Kylar.
“Well, I certainly hope you're not asking me to pierce it love,” Kylar teased in response, his usual mischievous smirk returning to his face, giving the youthful stag the appearance of the young and the reckless, “I can do many things for you, but piercing an ear isn't one of them, but I must say, I wholeheartedly approve of the idea, think you'd look quite sexy with an ear pierced. I could buy you something spectacular to wear – nothing too flashy, you aren't a lady, however pretty you may be.” Whilst he may tease about it, Kylar was telling the truth, the idea, now spoken aloud to him did seem appealing as he thought about something adorning his love's ear. It was an idea he had toyed with himself on occasion, when he had been younger, but Kahlan had granted permission either for it or for his angel tattoo, and he had wanted that more than he wanted the ear piercing, and after that had abandoned the idea – but as he thought on it more and more, it seemed like a better idea for his partner than it did on himself, so yes. Support it wholeheartedly he did indeed.
--Mick--
Pegasicorn's picture

@NikaGika: She tried not to

@NikaGika:
She tried not to chuckle at the misunderstanding. "Not quite. I'm not really sure I can explain how it works."

@Mick:
After Kylar's teasing that he hoped Toukan didn't expect him to do the piercing, he wasn't sure if the comment of him being "pretty" was serious or not. Either way, he felt his face heating up from the words. He ignored it, attempting to regain his composure before he lost it. "Well, I'll let you choose something for me then. But, like you said, nothing too flashy," he teased his lover with his own words.

Any effect those words might've had were probably lost, as, at that moment, the reindeer sort of...flinched in slow motion as the stubborn antler finally gave in to gravity and fell to the ground.

Slowly, he turned his head to look down at it, studying the branch-like shape as if he'd never seen it before. It was always somewhat trippy to see them lying on the ground like that. Something he'd never get used to.

"Well. That was interesting timing," he said with a flat expression.

Her eyes try to search her

Her eyes try to search her face, but was blocked by her mask and could only see her eyes. "I see." A question was forming in her chest, ready to bubble up, but fought it back with another question. "Well, what country are you from?" she asked.

Seeing the other doe having

Seeing the other doe having trouble trying to read her face, Suiren decided to drop the mask finally, letting it hang from its string around her neck instead. It seemed rude to keep it on any longer.

"I'm of Japanese descent -" Her Asian features reflected this. "- but I currently live in Scotland."

She had heard of Japan from

She had heard of Japan from other knights, soldiers, and merchants, but had never seen it for herself. And she had of course heard of Scotland, but never traveled there.

"What are those places like?" she asked curiously.

OOC: Sorry I didn't give her ref to you yesterday, I didn't have time. I can give you a quick description of the markings on her legs. The rest of her body (except her rump, which is the same color as the markings below) is black.

From hoof to knee her fur is the same color as her skin (like on her neck), and when the light color reaches her knee it tapers past her kneecap to a point. Same for her hind legs, except it pasts that first joint.

OOC: Okay! Laughing out loud And I'll reword her sentence.

"Do you like it there?" she asked, "And how do you travel freely from there to here? Do you use a portal?"
Pegasicorn's picture

Suiren barely held back from

Suiren barely held back from blinking at the almost rapid-fire questions again. She certainly was a curious one.

"Scotland is certainly an interesting place. I can't describe it in only a few words, but I do like living there." As for how she traveled...that was more difficult to answer... She tilted her head in thought. "Well...it's not exactly a portal. It's...I guess a type of teleportation. My brother taught me how, but I'm not really sure how it works." A pause. "I don't think he even does for that matter."

"Ah, I see," she said. Even

"Ah, I see," she said. Even though she had just met the doe, she wanted to ask her if she could take her to the modern world, but thought against it. "Why do you come to this forest?"
MickKreiger's picture

Sorry this is a bit late.

Sorry this is a bit late.

It took a moment to get past the shock of seeing the antler that had adorned Toukan's head, simply fall from it. It fell without ceremony, it seemed without warning, although Toukan might have had the sense that it was about to happen, he was unsure. It simply fell and upon hitting the ground, Kylar had to look at it a moment before regaining himself.

“It is indeed,” Kylar replied, before a thought crossed his mind, “So...if they just fall like that, how do you get them to Suiren?” This was a question that he had never really pondered before – but the other stag dutifully gave his antlers to Suiren every year, and she would carve things from them. Toukan tended to receive one as a gift for Christmas. They were lovely ornaments, and yet Kylar had never given much thought to their creation. “I mean how do you take things that....aren't attached to you back with you?” Kylar had often pondered such a question, he wasn't sure of transportation of objects between the two realms. His own method stripped him of any clothes he was wearing before entering the portal, but he was unsure of other objects.

@NikaGika:
"Mostly for a change of scenery. I run my own business, so it's nice to take a break here when I can." Perhaps she would more often.

@Mick:
He stopped studying the antler sitting at their hooves to look back at Kylar, blinking at the question. "Uh...I just...do?" Then Toukan frowned, glancing away for a second as he realized something. "...I never told you how I travel back and forth, did I." It was more of a statement than a question.

"What kind of business do you

"What kind of business do you run?" she asked. She was curious what kind of businesses of the future people ran.

She tilted her head

She tilted her head curiously. "What is 'martial arts'?" she asked. She truly did not know. She only knew of different types of medieval combat from neighboring countries.
MickKreiger's picture

“If you ever have, I can't

“If you ever have, I can't remember it,” Kylar answered, “Although, I'm sure something about sleeping was mentioned....although to be fair, you do just sleep a lot darlin'.” He chuckled a little as he finished, not being able to resist the tease – there was a more sexualised tease running around through his brain, but he'd keep that in reserve for the moment, it wouldn't be hard to fit it in elsewhere, if that was how the conversation ended up going, which it did sometimes – but he was curious enough for the moment that he was quite content to let the conversation remain mostly serious. He shifted his head, leaning in a little closer to Toukan – without his antlers to worry about, he could lean in a lot closer than he would normally, in deer form they kept a good distance, he was fairly certain he could only remember one incident where their antlers had collided. That as an experience wasn't actually painful more than just awkward. It was nice during the winter to be closer to his love in their deer form – where he had to admit, leaning on each other was more comfortable, fur being rather comfortable to lean against – on in Toukan's case, on various occasions to simply flop all over.

Pegasicorn's picture

@Nika: Ah, she had wondered

@Nika:
Ah, she had wondered if Nika wouldn't know what that meant. Hopefully her explanation would go over better than it had for electricity. "It's a fighting style. There are a lot of different ones, and they're all generally called 'martial arts'. Some can involve weapon use, but mine...typically doesn't."

@Mick:
Toukan snorted. "Yea...can't deny that, can I." He did still like sleeping a lot. "But yea, it does involve me sleeping. I keep a good picture of where I want to go in my head, and then I guess I sort of...teleport in my sleep." Then he had to toss in a joke with a smirk, "Sleep-walkers have got nothing on me."

"Ah, I see. It is like

"Ah, I see. It is like hand-to-hand combat?" she asked. Her fighting was about survival and killing your enemy with any means possible. You had to be resourceful, and use anything that could be a weapon if you lost your own, and if you could not find anything, fight until you can no longer fight. If you had a chance to escape, don't hesitate to take it.
MickKreiger's picture

Kylar chuckled at the joke,

Kylar chuckled at the joke, it was bad, but he laughed anyway because in someways the bad jokes were funnier, more organic in a way.
"Should I be worried that one day you're going to just appear at my side because you've fallen asleep?" Kylar asked amused at the prospect, but with mock horror in his tone. It was certainly an interesting notion, that Toukan would simply appear next to him - he doubted that Toukan had that much control, otherwise he was sure it would probably have happened before now. Kylar had never had the ability to appear anywhere other than the forest where he kept clothes. Had he that power, that would make his life a lot easier, he could simply teleport directly back to his apartment.

@Nika: She nodded. "Exactly.

@Nika:
She nodded. "Exactly. Although..." Suiren added, glancing down at her hooves, "...I had to adapt it to a style more fitting for deer as well."

@Mick:
"Maybe..." he went along with it, shifting his eyes to the side as if he was up to no good. "You never know what might happen..." Then he snickered, dropping the mock seriousness. "Actually, I can only go back and forth between the two...'dimensions' I guess you'd call them. And it's easier to appear where I was last." ...which sometimes led to odd situations. Like that time he appeared under Illrose because she'd apparently found the exact spot he'd last been appealing to sit in. He almost snorted at remembering that time.

"May you show me?" she asked

"May you show me?" she asked curiously. She wondered how this fighting style was different.
Pegasicorn's picture

Suiren tilted her head in thought. "Perhaps I could. But I'm a bit rusty at the deer form. It's been awhile since I've visited this forest..."
MickKreiger's picture

It would have been

It would have been interesting to observe – Toukan appearing directly at his side, simply after having fallen asleep. It could have made for some interesting scenarios – particularly if he were ever on a tour of duty in the middle east, or wherever was next to become unstable, not that he would complain about it, having Toukan near him was always good, he had never wished to spend time alone less than he had since being with Toukan; were it up to him, Kylar would spend every free minute with the other stag.

“Probably just as well,” He smirked, “Wouldn't want you discovering all that secret plotting I do, making plans to keep you locked up...” He let his voice trail off to give the indication that he was thinking about it – which in turn actually had the effect of sending his mind down that train of thought. The train wandered into some rather interesting and not very wholesome places. He mentally slapped himself to send his thoughts in another direction – any other direction. Mature thoughts later, ya horny devil, he chided himself.

Pegasicorn's picture

Toukan's brow furrowed in a

Toukan's brow furrowed in a thoughtful expression, trying to figure out if the other stag was being serious or not. He wouldn't give away that much information if he was. But the reindeer went along with it anyway, putting on a small smirk of his own. "Who says I haven't already been spying?" What with that "spiriting" ability he had. More accurately called "astral projection" he believed. He hardly ever used it nowadays, but it's not like anyone else would know unless he told them.
MickKreiger's picture

"I suppose there is nothing

"I suppose there is nothing to say that," Kylar answered softly, "But you don't sound afraid enough." He let his tone drop into darkness there, before starting to laugh, unable to keep up the façade any longer. His face noticeably lightened as he allowed the laugh out of his throat. Kylar's laughter was slightly rocky – as his voice was, but just a little more so. He nuzzled softly into the fur of the other stag in an assuring manner. It was always good to make sure that the teasing games that they played with each other never went too far. In Kylar's mind, there were two lines to the games they played, there was one that was designed to be crossed, a line that was bordered the area of safety and the area in which one was pushing the boundaries of the other – a line someone with his humour crossed often enough. The other line, that was the actual line – the true limit beyond which crossing into was into the realms that upset or offended and whilst he knew that he had skirted it, he hoped not to cross it. To cross it would be to hurt Toukan and that was something that he was not inclined to do, and it was something that he doubted he would ever be inclined to do. Even at his angriest, Kylar had his limits.

“So, how is everyone else actually?” Kylar asked easily - tone laid back - to move away from the joke, “I haven't seen anyone in a little while.”
--Mick--
Pegasicorn's picture

He'd almost started to feel

He'd almost started to feel worried until Kylar had broken character by laughing. Sometimes he swore his boyfriend could be an actor if he wanted to.

"Hmm..." He took a moment to sort his thoughts, remembering what everyone had been up to. "I haven't seen Oura in awhile, but last I saw she was doing alright. Sui's got her hands full with the business as always. She's even started giving Tundra some lessons." He chuckled a bit at that, recalling her pointing out that sometimes he had "reflexes like a sloth" and could do to be more observant. Even Kinsha was more mindful of his surroundings than the caribou was. Speaking of a certain ninja... "And Kinsha...well... He really needs to talk to Tundra," he continued with a bit of emphasis on the word "really".

Toukan couldn't remember if he'd mentioned to Kylar the "little" revelation Kinsha had revealed to him. But the fact he hadn't said anything yet was getting ridiculous. He understood being guarded after the last time, but how long had it been since Kinsha had admitted to Toukan that he liked his brother? A few months at least. He was tempted to shove them into a room together and lock the door.

"I would still like to see,

"I would still like to see, if you do not mind. I am very curious," she said, looking at the doe with interest. She smiled at the doe as she waited to see if she would show her this new style of fighting she had never seen before.

OOC: Sorry for the late reply!
MickKreiger's picture

Kylar chuckled as Toukan told

Kylar chuckled as Toukan told him of Kinsha and Tundra – the two of them had been dancing around each other for a while, it was amusing for Kylar, and also induced a little bit of nostalgia; he and Toukan had danced around each other for a bit before getting together properly, after Kylar sort of pushed the stag next to him into admitting his feelings. That prompted an 'a-ha!' moment, which likely crossed over Kylar's face before he began to speak.
“Perhaps we should give them a push. It worked for us,” He commented, before the mischievous look that so often adorned his face, returned. There was always the back up plan – well it wasn't so much a back up plan, as an amusing idea that he assumed would actually have a fair chance of working with the two of them, “Or we get a couple days worth of supplies and lock them in a room.”

"Hmm..." The green doe looked around in thought, searching out a good area to demonstrate.

Ah. Her eyes fell on the nearby rocks Nika had been sharpening her antlers on earlier. Those might do.

She nodded to herself, before getting to her hooves and focusing back on the other doe. "I suppose I could show you a thing or two. But as I said, I'm pretty rusty at the deer version of this fighting style."

@Mick:
[[This seems a little choppy to me, so I hope it comes across the way I intended it to.]]

Toukan couldn't help the "uh-oh" that passed through his thoughts at that look. That was the "Kylar's having devious thoughts" look. Usually it meant an idea that might make the caribou blush. Or a different caribou along with a golden-colored stag in this case.

He wasn't really disappointed. Yet...

Blink. "...you kind of read my mind..." ...that was eerie.

"...minus the 'supplies' part though... Of course, his boyfriend could have meant that innocently and not the way Toukan had taken it.

"I am sure you will do fine,"

"I am sure you will do fine," Nika said, standing up as well. She followed the doe's gaze to the rock she had been using earlier; it had many scratches on it's face.

OOC: It's alright! Laughing out loud And you're fine! Laughing out loud
MickKreiger's picture

"Well I suppose then they

"Well I suppose then they would have to talk to each other quicker, assuming they don't want to starve or what have you," Kylar responded with a smirk, allowing what he was saying to be taken either way - he hadn't actually thought of the double entendre of what he had actually said until after Toukan had responded; rare for him, and fundamental proof that he was definitely rubbing off on Toukan. Kylar's smirk widened at the very thought, corrupting his innocent lover boy. Scratch that, Toukan was definitively and wholly not innocent anymore, and the journey to that point had been rather pleasurable indeed.

"I don't even think it would be that hard...I could just say I needed Kinsha to help me with a present for you, and I'm sure your brother trusts you..."

@Nika: [[It's been awhile

@Nika:
[[It's been awhile since I've written an action scene like this before, so this should be interesting. 8D; ]]

She stepped towards the rock, sizing it up as if it were an actual opponent. Or perhaps to decide on the best spot to hit and in what way.

Nodding as if satisfied, the green doe took a step back, placing her hooves in some semblance of a fighting stance - angling her body so that one side's hooves were forward more than the other's. She stayed like this for a moment, focusing on the rock and releasing a calming breath...before rearing forward in a graceful and fluid manner, then striking forward with her front hooves in a quick succession of strikes that took little chips out of the rough surface and landing back in a similar position to how she started.

@Mick:
It took a second, but that smirk made Toukan roll his eyes, getting the double meaning to the words Kylar had said. "I guess that depends on how hungry they are at the time..." He made no indication of how he meant that to be taken. But it was probably obvious.

Now, as for how the actual "locking in a room" would happen...

Toukan tilted his head at the start of a plan Kylar laid out. He'd have to figure out exactly how to deal with Tundra, but... "...this could work...maybe. Just keep up those good acting skills of yours so Kinsha doesn't get suspicious."

He couldn't believe they were actually discussing this. But desperate times call for desperate measures, and those two could apparently use all the help they could get. Or at least Kinsha could. Tundra seemed oblivious from what he could tell, unless he was just good at hiding things.

Nika smiled as she chipped

Nika smiled as she chipped the boulder with only her hooves. "That is amazing!" she said trotting up beside her. "How long did it take you to master your martial art?"
MickKreiger's picture

“My love, for you I will act

“My love, for you I will act so incredibly they will line up to present me with Oscars,” He responded with a chuckle before a thought ran through his mind – they were planning this without concern, without any real thought on it and yet it sounded so realistic a plan, so easy a plan to do...did Toukan really want to do it? He was a little unsure if they were actually planning this as a thing to do, or just a mental wandering that would probably help the oblivious pair. Kylar saw no issue with doing it – at best, Tundra and Kinsha would get together and be happy, and at worst...nothing would really change. He supposed in theory it could all blow up, but he doubted that either of the two of them would really get that far – besides from what he had heard from Toukan, the two of them were close, very close, and that nudge was really all they needed to descend into a relationship – and that was without considering certain declarations from Kinsha to Toukan.

“The question that remains is, do you want to actually do it?” He asked curious to get to the heart of their conversation.

@Nika:
There was a hint of pride to her voice she couldn't quite hide. "I've been practicing almost my whole life. So nearly twenty-five years. But," she added, turning to face the other doe, "I don't consider myself a master yet. I still have a lot to learn."

@Mick:
Toukan lifted a shoulder in a sort of shrug. "Not going to lie. I'm tempted." He huffed. "It's obvious they could use all the help they can get.

"And I'm sure whatever you do would be Oscar material,"
he added with a smirk. "But...something also tells me we should wait before interfering. Maybe until after Christmas. Just in case our favorite ninja has something planned."

"I am sure you will get there

Suiren blinked, a hint of surprise showing through the neutral expression she often maintained. Yes, her style was definitely very different. Probably one she would not pick up on unless it was extremely necessary. And since her life wasn't full of much danger, she probably wouldn't need to.

"I'm guessing it was necessary for survival for the time you're from."

"I suppose a little. Though,

"I suppose a little. Though, I was mostly for war," she said with a nod. War during her time was brutal, most of it being close combat with terrible injuries.
