Qutaita knew the other deer had heard her. She stepped out from behind the tree. "Well I wouldn't count myself as a 'Thing'." She spoke with her masculine voice. Her Secretary Bird antlers seem to become heavier and her face felt hot as she spoke.

"Well we aren't making each other sign weirdass contracts and such," Kylar responded, "Although now that I think of it. That kinda sounds like marriage." He laughed at that thought - the thought that the strange relationship of the characters of the book being done by ruled over by a contract being similar to marriage. Maybe if you wanted to be deep and shit about the book you could say something like that. Heh, residual teaching in his brain there. Interesting. He didn't think he'd remember that much from school. It hadn't ended that long ago, but still.

The green stag looked his old

The green stag looked his old friend's pelt over appraisingly, tilting his head this way and that like someone looking at a paining. A small smile played at his lips, and his eyes were focused with fondness.

"While it's dark, I would say...It's joyous, not grim. Because it's brightness against darkness, stars on a night sky..."

Seed replied after giving it some thought. Of course, because he associated it with Scape, it had a more cheery impression than maybe most. Still, he could argue it for a long time.

Scape bemusedly wondered if he should stand perfectly still while his pelt was being stared at.

He shrugged. "I just like the way it looks." And he'd worn it for so long, it had almost become a part of him, even affecting his genes if his daughter's pelt markings were any proof.

"Sorry, ignore me. M'just

"Sorry, ignore me. M'just rambling on," Kylar murmured as he continued up the stairs, carrying his beloved with him. They were near the top, just a couple of steps from it. Kylar wondered about kissing him again - like they usually did when he carried Toukan upstairs. Seemed a reasonable thing to do. Their conversaton wasn't too important. They weren't really talking about anything.
--Mick--
Pegasicorn's picture

Toukan just blinked at that,

Toukan just blinked at that, wondering if he should find another topic to talk about. They didn't always say much when together though - there wasn't always a need - so he wasn't sure what to say. They were about at the top of the stairs now anyway. And there was that almost-regret feeling of knowing he'd have to be put back down on his feet again soon since Kylar would have no need to carry him past the stairs...followed by feeling silly for feeling that way.
MickKreiger's picture

Top of the stairs. It was

Top of the stairs. It was time for it. Kylar lowered his face to Toukan's.
"Mmm, don't want to put you down," Kylar said before claiming the other man's lips, his tongue moving in a fiery dance determined to take control to unleash a little of his love. He was very glad that even after all the time they had been together, living together that he still felt that passion burning in his veins as brightly as he did when they had first gotten together. It was like the honeymoon period had never ended and had just went on and on. The necklace around Toukan's neck would probably confirm this. Kylar guessed it would have flared up brightly, turning light pink.

He wasn't going to argue with

He wasn't going to argue with that. Not that he could if he'd wanted to anyway, what with it being impossible to talk or even think properly during a kiss like that.

If the snowflake charm had changed color, Toukan wouldn't have noticed. He was too focused on responding to those lips and tongue.
MickKreiger's picture

All good things must come to

All good things must come to an end and kisses with Toukan came to an end when spots of black started appearing in Kylar's vision, he knew it well. That was when his body demanded air instead of Toukan. He would have to stop in a moment, he could see the first spots appearing as he allowed his eyes to flutter open for a second. When his head came back, as usual, his breathing was heavy as he gulped in some of the air that his body was demanding. Breathing could be rather inconveinent like that. As he had pulled away he had also seen that the charm around Toukan's neck was now like a little star - it was particularly luminescent.
"Heh, that's bright," Kylar smirked at it. He wondered if it had been particularly dark at the top of the stairs if he would be glowing faintly through his skin. That happened periodically if he was excited and there was adrenaline coursing his veins. That rose the lightning nearer to the surface and could make it so that the light shone through translucent skin, giving him a faint glow.

...M'sorry m'so late.

He felt a little dazed when

He felt a little dazed when that amazing kiss ended, breathing heavily to make up for the loss of air. Toukan blinked at Kylar's observation, taking a second to process what he said before looking down at the snowflake charm himself - and blinking again. "Huh. So it is," he agreed, a little amused at this. It was like - unless he was purposely controlling the color of the lightning - Kylar couldn't hide what he was feeling at the time.

[Here's the idea I came up

[Here's the idea I came up with since the timing is close enough.]

They'd been kind of shaky for the past few days. The reindeer had been hanging around the forest for just this reason. It was only a matter of time before it happened...

He froze.

Like a branch finally creaking loose from a tree after too much snow weighed it down, the left antler fell sideways, detaching from his head to land with a thud on the ground. His head suddenly felt a lot lighter after that loss of weight...and considerably lopsided.

Looking up, he gave his head an experimental shake. The remaining antler swayed a bit with the movement, but held fast.

Toukan huffed.

Looked like he got to be a "unicorn" for awhile.

He hoped it wouldn't be for long. He was bound to get some funny remarks about this.
MickKreiger's picture

From a distance, the lack of

From a distance, the lack of an antler was imperceptible to Kylar, it was only as he drew closer and his love came into true focus that he began to realise that something was different, although being such an obvious change, it still took a moment for it to actually register, and when it did, he smirked – resisting the urge to burst into a chuckle. He approached leisurely, it had been a couple of days since they had seen each other last – the job took him away from his lover, but such was the nature of military service, he was glad they hadn't been deployed. It was looking increasingly unlikely though, so there was that to be glad of. A couple of days here and there was easily forgiven, but still, he had missed Toukan, but it was still just a little too saccharine to run at the other stag. Such was best saved for cheesy romantic comedies, like those that Kahlan used to watch when in her words “she was feeling the need for some trashy crap.” If that was the case, she felt such a need often.

As he drew closer, the urge to chuckle became too great for his willpower to continue resisting. He let out the noise, a light chuckle, low, lower than his usual. It was reserved for things that Toukan did that amused him – as many things were. Toukan had many things that were uniquely his, chiefly among them was a particular smirk, a smirk of love and lust and amusement and contented happiness mixed in with a thousand other things that mixed together to create the cocktail of emotion that Kylar felt when around his other half – his better half he imagined that most would say. He would say it, as well, if he was feeling sappy – which if he admitted it to himself, and to none else, was more often than he'd like. Not that he was complaining, not really. It was a good feeling after all.

“I leave you alone for two days and you become a unicorn,” Kylar said, his low voice - slightly rocky and accented with Glaswegian – was riddled with entertainment. Another chuckle passed his lips – softer lips than one might expect from a man with his build – before he continued speaking, “It's certainly an interesting fashion choice for you, love. How long before you lose the other one?”

This is probably riddled with rust. It's been a while.

[Not bothering with color coding since I'm on my phone and can't be bothered.]

He caught sight of a dark blue shape out of the corner of his eye, causing his heart to race like it usually did when Kylar came home after his job kept him away for awhile. Toukan held back from running to meet him though. He was happy to see him, sure - closer to ecstatic really - but that didn't mean he wanted to seem desperate.

Though he couldn't hold back the urge to roll his eyes at Kylar's remark, retorting with, "So I decided to be a little more magical for awhile..." before answering the question shot his way. "And not sure. But," he shook his head again, causing the antler to wave around, proving how loose it was, "shouldn't be long before the other one drops."

Who do you want to start?

OOC: EDIT: LOL, SORRY, I MISREAD YOUR QUESTION. I guess I'm starting lol! xD!

Nika's antler's sharpened and whined as she sharpened them against a large boulder. She was in The Playground, and she merely sharpened them when she needed them. It was as if she was back in her room, sharpening her sword. Nika was a rather tall female, taller than the average Roosevelt elk cow, but it did not take away her femininity.
Pegasicorn's picture

It wasn't often that she came

It wasn't often that she came here. But maybe she should change that; it was a nice getaway when she had the free time. And since there were no martial arts classes planned for today, Suiren had had the time to spare.

She still found it interesting how entering this forest changed her shape to match the local residents. From slightly tall female human to green-furred deer with human face and what were known as secretary bird antlers. Not something she really knew how to use. Her art didn't involve actual weapons; the body became the weapon instead.

Her ears perked up at a scraping sound not too far off, reminding her of how her senses were heightened in this form too. She wasn't here often enough to really know anyone, which she was usually ok with, but her curiosity was piqued.

She made her way towards the collection of large rocks known as the Playground.

After the tips of her antlers

After the tips of her antlers became a sharp point, she stepped back away from the rock and looked at a few birds pecking the ground beside her. "What do you think? Are the sharp?" She would check herself, but this form would not allow her to. The birds fluttered up onto her antlers and examined the sharp ends. They all chirped in agreement. "Thank you for checking for me," she said with a smile, and the birds sat happily on her antlers. Nika's ears pricked up when she heard movement not far off, and looked to that direction.
MickKreiger's picture

Kylar snorted at the

Kylar snorted at the 'magical' comment, a noise of humour, a bit less graceful than the noise he made when chuckling, but with a hint of more spontaneous amusement. The urge to be close to his love grew a little at this exchange and he drifted closer to the other stag, close enough to feel him there, just beyond himself as he watched the other shake his remaining antler. He could see from above, the movement of it down near the base that would eventually fall out. Probably within the next few hours, if Kylar had to guess – although he had no knowledge of it. This was the first year that he had actually seen Toukan at the point where his antlers were actually falling out. Every other year, he had simply come to the forest one day to see them removed from the stag's head, and Toukan left as his 'damsel in distress' as Kylar had teased him last time around – and possibly the time before that, although he couldn't remember for certain.

“I'm sure the unicorn community is very grateful to have such a wonderful member join then,” He answered with a smile – not a smirk, this time Kylar genuinely smiled revealing perfectly white teeth. He was vain enough still to keep them absolutely perfect – not that he had to try very hard. Kahlan made sure that Kylar was as healthy as possible, although what exactly she did to him was a mystery.
“So think they'll be bigger or smaller when they grow back?” Kylar asked, “I mean I know they usually get bigger, but you are getting old. Near to the double digits now, so I wonder if you'll start shrinking in the antler department.” A chuckle this time., “Oh that reminds me, I'll have to start planning what to get you, shan't I?”

@NikaGika: She reached the

@NikaGika:
She reached the Playground in time to see a deer finishing off sharpening their antlers on one of the rocks. Seemed to be a rather tall antlered doe. But Suiren wasn't intimidated. Height didn't always mean much.

Seeing she'd been spotted - Had that doe been speaking to the birds? Interesting. - the green-furred doe nodded her head in greeting, keeping her expression neutral, even though the Forest Spirit mask she wore completely covered her face. She liked the look of it - interesting that she found a mask that reminded her of one of her favorite movies - and the fact that it added to the whole "poker face" she tended to do. At first, at least.
"Hello," she said.

@Mick:
He wondered what it looked like, seeing his antler wave around almost on its own like that. Probably a little freaky. The spot the other had been couldn't look too great either. Sometimes it bled a bit when the antler detached, and scabbed over later. It definitely got itchy for a few days after.

Toukan couldn't help smiling back. It was a bit contagious after all.

"Ah, yea. Going to be ten this year. Hmm..." He frowned a bit in thought. "They didn't seem much bigger last time, so I guess they'll stay pretty much the same this time..." He wasn't going to mention how he'd done research on reindeer lifespans. Ten seemed to be the average maximum age for males. It was...worrying. But he didn't feel like he was nearing the end, so hopefully that meant he was weird enough that it didn't apply to him.

Nika bowed at the masked doe

Nika bowed at the masked doe before her. "Hello," she said. She had never seen this doe before, but was polite and smiled at her. The little birds snuggled against her antlers as she stepped forward.
Pegasicorn's picture

She nodded again, introducing

She nodded again, introducing herself. "Name's Suiren."

Even though it had been obvious what the other doe had been up to, Suiren decided to ask about it so the conversation wouldn't die before it really began. "So..." She glanced over at the rocks. "...what were you doing?" She was curious how the other would answer anyway. It might be something more than just "sharpening my antlers".

"Oh, I am just sharpening my

"Oh, I am just sharpening my antlers, just in case I need them," she said eyeing the doe, "You never know what dangers there could be." She looked at the doe's bright green pelt and mask. She had seen other deer wear masks. She found them rather nice.
Pegasicorn's picture

She blinked neutrally at

She blinked neutrally at that, still unseen due to the mask. Perhaps keeping her face covered could be considered rude? The other doe didn't seem bothered by it though, so she stopped dwelling on the idea.

"That's true. Even in a place as pretty as this, it's always good to be able to defend yourself."

"Yes, though I have not seen

"Yes, though I have not seen any dangers or predators in my short time here," she said. "The only "risk to one's life" I've seen is a fawn getting a bellyache from eating too many blueberries," she laughed, "So, I suppose one must watch out for them!"
MickKreiger's picture

Kylar noted the change in

Kylar noted the change in Toukan's demeanour, the little frown that told him that he had wandered into his own thoughts, and then there was something after that...something that told Kylar that Toukan was worrying about something, worrying about something that he was trying not really to show – had he said something wrong? He had only meant to tease his love, he hadn't wished for his words to sting as they so obviously seem to have. He looked at his love, apologetic feelings taking over his facial expression, mixed in with a tinge of worry. Toukan was old for a stag reindeer, he knew that, but he still seemed so young, and it's not like his human appearance was old, no. He appeared a little older than Kylar was, around 22/23, if Kylar had had to guess his age, but....could it be that that was not really the case and Toukan was actually worried about being old?

“Did I say something wrong?” Kylar asked, any traces of rockiness in his voice gone as it softened into an apologetic tone. He really didn't want to spoil today, they hadn't seen each other in a couple of days, and what a shitty boyfriend would he be, if he managed to spoil that for them,“I didn't mean to upset you, love. Never mean to. Forgive me?” He lowered his head so as to nuzzle into Toukan for a moment, the feel of his fur was very soft, comfy, like a pillow. A pillow that Kylar was very used to having next to him, to having near to him. A pillow that he treasured.

Pegasicorn's picture

@NikaGika: Suiren chuckled at

@NikaGika:
Suiren chuckled at that. "Ah, yes. Blueberries can be dangerous, can't they."

@Mick:
Toukan blinked, snapping out of his thoughts. He hadn't meant to drift like that, and apparently the depressing nature of his thoughts had shown on his face.

The reindeer turned his head to where his love was nuzzled into his neck, mindful of their antlers colliding (that was the benefit of him losing his antlers - there was no worry of them getting in the way for awhile). It was probably softer than usual, too, since he'd been getting fluffier for the colder months.

"Hey, stop that. You didn't do anything wrong." He nudged at one of Kylar's ears the best he could from this angle. "I'm just...thinking of things I probably shouldn't be worrying about..."

"Ah, forgive me, but I forgot

"Ah, forgive me, but I forgot to introduce myself," she said, "I am Nika." She stepped a little closer, "Have you seen anything to watch out for in your time here? I have not been here long."
Pegasicorn's picture

She nodded at the name,

She nodded at the name, filing it away to remember.

Suiren tilted her head, frowning behind her mask in thought. "I haven't seen anything...but I'm not here that often." She would know if something was going on, though, because Tundra or Kinsha might tell her, and there hadn't been any recent news.

She tilted her head. "You

She tilted her head. "You are not here often?" she asked curiously, "You are able to leave the forest?" She stepped closer to the doe, until she was right before her. She waited excitedly for the doe to speak.
Pegasicorn's picture

Suiren almost took a step

Suiren almost took a step back from how eager Nika seemed about this information. Perhaps she shouldn't have said anything...

Well, too late now.

"Yes," she answered, choosing her words carefully in case this was too much of a shock. She wasn't sure how many of the forest residents were aware of the human world after all. "I was born outside of this forest." Never mind that she was actually a human "masquerading" as a deer.

She thought about what the

She thought about what the doe said. "You are still alive in the human realm? Or are you a spirit?" she asked. The thought of a chance to see the human world made her excited, but it quickly left. "They could all be dead by now," she thought and took a step back from the doe, seeing that her eagerness startled her. "Forgive me for being so eager," she said with a polite bow.
MickKreiger's picture

Some relief filtered through

Some relief filtered through him, but Kylar still retained some worry for Toukan. Even though he was dismissing it off, it seemed like it was something that was weighing a little – but if Toukan didn't really want to talk about it now, Kylar understood that, and he would let it be. It wasn't good to push such conversations, he didn't want it turning into a bit of an argument if he was pushing too hard for something that Toukan didn't want to do. He lifted up his head again, mindful of the now nearer single antler remaining on Toukan's head – it probably would not be pleasant for it to collide with his large, red antlers. He had scraped a girl once by complete accident with the bottom of them, and had learned that they were more powerful than he had initially thought, and he couldn't really control what they did.

“What do you want for your birthday actually?” Kylar asked, allowing the topic to move back towards happier subjects. He was unsure this year, of what to get the other stag for his birthday. Nothing had really sprung out at him – and his birthday was drawing nearer. Three weeks to find something and get it for him – three weeks in which he would find one of two perfect gifts – or as near enough to them as he could find, he couldn't work miracles. Kahlan was the one that could track down the most unusual items that one could ask for – apparently the old woman at the shop that she had worked for had had many contacts throughout the antique world, and Kahlan had used that to find some strange things – he wondered maybe if she could think of something, depending on how Toukan responded to his inquiry.
