Hum.

Is my vision slightly blurrier than yesterday? I cannot exactly tell. But no matter! I can see well enough yet. Surely this is just a result of my age. One cannot expect to have perfect sharp eyes all through their life, now!
Today is a bright sunny day, warm and nearly hot. I can see the shade of the forest is much needed on days like this.

Hum, but look! Is that my dearest friend Queze? I see him leaping among two others whom he seems to know well. Dear me, what am I doing? I must go greet him.

He joyfully greets me back and the two others introduce themselves; the brown doe, Lemon, and the green stag, Seed. But the poor dear, feathered Lemon! She is blind.

Another strange red stag with a skull for a mask joins us in our games. We all walk backwards, passing through trees and separating from each other until we fall upon the ground, laughing and laughing. Oh, what fun! What fun it is to be with friends! Why, in my fawnhood... Hum, the only fun I ever had, really, was with myself. I did not have many friends... Especially after the floods. Then I had no friends. Ah, but then I should be even more grateful for the friends I have now, I should!
Lemon strangely disappears during our playing, however. Seed explains that she has a bad connection. "Bad connection"?...

All of a sudden a tiny red doe comes dancing up and casts a spell onto Queze. With a small puff of smoke, there is a bat in his place! But, hum, now I understand! Now I completely understand! Deer can be transformed into small animals with this magic. Well, I never! My fear turns into awe of this powerful magic.
We rear and shout at fluttery Queze, laughing and calling him down, until with another small puff he is with us again on the ground.

Lemon makes a reappearance, as a tiny doe. She begins to sneeze off masks rapidly, and landing at the same mask as Queze she gives him quite a fright! We collapse into laughter with the antics of the two.

More deer join our group. All of a sudden they all begin to run and leap around, shouting and dashing around. This is a bit much for me, hum! Far too many deer in one place makes me a bit queasy, it does. And perhaps I was worn out, slightly. I retreat to a fallen log and simply watch the others, drifting into my thoughts...

To my surprise (and joy) my friends notice me laying all alone and join me for a rest. Even a small fawn sits himself down by my side. Oh, how sweet! How sweet of them all! How lucky I am to have such kind, thoughtful friends. Indeed, I never expected to be so well welcomed when I first came to this forest.

A small scuffle begins between two stags within a nearby fearyring. It is between a brown stag and another with purple-blue fur, shimmering like that of a magpie. They roar and taunt each other, for reasons unknown, and brave brave Seed and Queze run up between them and stand. Hum, how brave! They are blocking the blows with their bodies! Feeling strangely brave today I run up as well and take my place between the battling stags. Hum, small scratches down my sides... No matter! They only hurt a little bit.
Lemon still has not gotten up from our last sitting-circle... We wait by her side, but oh dear, she is quickly gone to the world of dreams.

Slightly sorrowful, Seed, Queze and I find a tree with many a toadstool growing on it. I sniff them, curious, and by my side the two stags begin to eat them. Deciding they are safe to eat I take a bite. Hum, not bad! The warm feeling of a spell bursts inside me. So eating mushrooms is magic as well! Lovely! I do think I am fond of mushrooms.
We cast for while, I watching the different kinds of masks that appear on my friends' faces. All of a sudden Queze sits upon the ground and begins to move, still sitting! My! What is this, a new trick? Magic? Or simply skill? But hum, I cannot help but be slightly afraid of this sliding version of my friend. Surely he knows many things.

I find a lovely clump of ferns nearby. They remind me of my sleeping spot, so soft and gentle, springy and green, and we have a breather in their nest.

Lemon returns! Joy erupts between us as we welcome the doe back. I am laughing and nuzzling my new friend when my vision blurs...

Like a painting... Hum, like a painting... The world is so soft, so warm, so fuzzy, like an old painting, done with warm, soft colors. It is beautiful, I must admit. Perhaps it's not so bad to have my eyes go bad...

The world becomes clear again and we frolic and dance together. Sadly, dear Queze must make his leave, and we all nuzzle in goodbye. He lays down to travel to the dream world and we watch over him as he disappears.

Perhaps it is sorrow, or perhaps simple weariness, but my eyes blur yet again as we sit in silence after Queze's departure. It is really quite beautiful. Almost as if I am seeing a memory, for memories are always quite blurry. I close my eyes; the thought of memories brings back the reality that I have forgotten my name, my very own name, the name that Mother and Father gave me to hold forever. And with my name I have forgotten much of my fawnhood memories; memories of the floods, of the horrible things that happened, then. Horrible. That is all I can remember, that the floods were horrible. Hum... They were so long ago. Perhaps it is better for me not to remember at all.
Oh, but I am being silly! The Hat Lady is good enough of a name for now, to be sure..

The birch forest is bright with sunshine today. Hum, the grass almost seems to glow! How lovely! We dance together in the bright sunny grass, nodding our heads to the sounds of whimsical music traveling through our minds.
Hum... But I am worn out, I am. I feel the need to rest and I tell my friends so. They are sorrowful, but they understand, and I nuzzle them goodbye... My dear, dear friends.

Hum... I have found such a pleasant life here... Oh, Mother, Father, if you could see me now, happy as can be...

Aw, now how could I have missed this? I was really looking forward to reading it; and I wasn't disappointed! What a beautiful entry. c:

I'm glad to hear the Hat Lady's recount of the day, and I'm especially glad to see that she had a really lovely time! <3 One of Lemon's rare happier days, and therefore a good day for the two to meet, I think. x3
