Hum.

My eyes... They are unfocused. The world, blurry and soft... At first I am afraid that my vision has worsened to this extent, but no, soon it clears and the world is visible enough. That gave me quite a scare, first thing in the morning!
...And hum, I am quite tired, though I just woke. I think... I do think I was having a strange dream. Was it a dream?... I cannot be quite sure. But there was a fawn, a poor little fawn, all alone.
Hum. That seems to be all I can remember. Pity that dreams are always like that.
It seems there are no familiar scents about... The forest is quiet...
And I seem to be a little out of it today. Hum.

I wander around, a little aimlessly, finally ending up at the pond. Deep blue water... So clean and clear... Ah, but this forest is blessed, surely, to have such beautiful water available. Why, I remember in my fawnhood, during the floods... There was little clean water, I think.

I keep a little fawn warm for a while, keeping it close to my side. Poor little thing, sleeping out here in the open. Surely he should be with his mother in a comfortable den.
Hum... I still seem tired. Perhaps it would be best for me to simply go back to sleep... Later my friends may appear. Hum. Good-night.

...Ahh, now I feel much better.
Hum! I scent my friend Lemon! Why, but I woke at a good time, I did. I dash towards her scent, mingling with some other deer's. There, there she is!

Hum... She seems to be very occupied with frolicking with her friends; an unnamed stag and a small red stag with a skulled face. They are dancing and laughing as I slowly approach, a little hesitant in intruding on their fun. I bow and call numerous times to Lemon but she is, indeed, very occupied, and I am beginning to feel a little frustrated. Is that really Lemon? From this distance, I can't quite be sure...

She finally notices me and runs over, excited. I am a little wary at first; it takes a good sniff to confirm that she is really Lemon. And she is! So we nuzzle in greeting and all is good.

Eagerly I join in the frolicking. Lemon and the others begin to change the pelt of the unnamed stag, and I watch closely at how they achieve this. It seems that sitting by the side of a sleeping deer gives you a pelt spell. Well, I never! Hum, strange magic, indeed, but good to know.

The unnamed stag and the red stag wander away after some time, and it is only I and Lemon. We fool around with an oak tree, passing through it and dancing in it. Hum, it is good to laugh! I have heard somewhere that laughing is good for your health. Is it good for eyes, too, then?

Roaring and stamping of feet are loud nearby, distracting me from our games. Hum, I am curious! What is all the outrage about? I walk hesitantly towards the sounds, startled by a frightened cry. Lemon follows me, and shakes her head sadly at the scene unfolding before us.

A stag, shivering low and cowering, is attacked before my very eyes. Another stag, bird-like with candles on his antlers, threatens the brown stag and rears, tossing his head. A strange doe behind the bird-like stag is watching and taunting now and then. But the poor brown stag! Lemon and I are unable to watch any longer, and we hurtle towards the fray.

I remember when brave Queze and Seed stood strong between those fighters, before... I feel the urge to be brave like them, and I stand, blocking the bird-like stag's blows. Oh, it hurts! I can feel the sharp hooves scratching down my side - but I refuse to budge! Not until Lemon has successfully led the frightened stag away... But then across from the bird-like stag comes another group of deer. They are angry, very angry, and they advance. The two sides begin to war and I, I am stuck between them! Oh, woe! But I must stop - I must stop the fighting! A skulled stag even nuzzles me once, trying to move me out of the way. But... The bloodshed! I must stop it! I must stand strong and bear the blows! -

But... I cannot bear it any longer... They pay no heed to me, a single doe, beneath the flailing hooves and antlers... I flee like a coward, away and away from the battle. The scratches on my sides are deep and painful, and there is a cut down a leg. But they do not hurt as much as I thought they would... Perhaps they were gentler, or surprised, by having a doe at their feet...

I find Lemon, worried and waiting. She comforts me with soft words, but I still feel like a failure... And surely I look like one as well, with my feathers and fur bedraggled and blood on my white coat... I could not do anything! Anything at all! Why did they fight, anyway? Why had the forest been turned into a battlefield? Why must there be such a thing as fighting? Hum... I will never understand it...

I am weak and tired, and I am sure Lemon is as well. We find a patch of those lovely red flowers to lay in, resting ourselves after the tough happenings. The roars and cries from the clashing deer echo through the trees and painfully reverberate through me...

My eyes blur - not because of my recent strange vision, but because of tears... Tears of frustration and shame. Hum... It has been a while since I cried... Perhaps hard times taught me not to cry and waste my energy...
It would probably be best for me to sleep, again. These cuts need healing...
Lemon and I nuzzle goodbye, and I nestle myself in the red flowers, taking comfort in their soft scent.

Hum... I saw the darker side of this forest, today... Indeed...

{...and without a name, she blinks the tears away...}

Finally got a program with a blur tool. You can see me playing with it here, heh. Gives a cool effect, so I think I'll keep using it.
Also, events during the fight may not be very accurate.

What a lovely, yet sad

What a lovely, yet sad story. It was if I could feel the emotion, and see the events happening before my very eyes. I look forward to seeing more of you work. :3

Baaw. D: There's my deer

Baaw. D:
There's my deer Crowe in there attacking some one, but I don't remember why. He wouldn't just attack a cowering deer like that, I don't remember it. *blinks and thinks*

NO. WAIT.
I remember now.
He attacked that deer because he was protecting Plague, and it had been attacking her a moment ago. :U

ITLemming: Thank you Laughing out loud There's many more entries you can read, if you go to my blog.

CynicalTabby: Oh... Well, the Hat Lady only saw the part where Crowe was attacking Enigma. Don't worry, she doesn't have anything against Crowe, she simply despises any fighting and wants to stop it when she can. Smiling

I'm not worried, I was just

I'm not worried, I was just explaining myself. >> <<
Crowe seems to attract people at the worst of times so that he looks mean or something when he's in character, but I don't mind really. XP I was just saying OOCly on my behalf that I'm sorry Crowe hurt the Hat Lady, he didn't mean to. <3

Either way, I love your writing style! 8D

Heh, it's okay. You don't really have to be sorry, it's the HL's own fault for jumping in there. xD;
And thank you. Smiling

Wh- I could have sworn I

Wh- I could have sworn I commented on this ages ago! :< Sorry!

As I've come to expect, this is a really beautiful piece of writing. I love how clear Hat Lady's voice is, in your writing; it's something I really admire! c: Though I really don't think it was such a great day for anyone, Lemon really did enjoy spending time with the Hat Lady again. <3
