Hello all <3 Some of you may know me around the web, mostly on devart and the rpg world, and I'm new to TEF.
I mostly go by Namaste. Or my older name was Nym. Geheledin is my deviant art name

I havent named my fawn yet.. hmm.. any suggestions?
Anyways I've known about TEF for a few years now, but some fresh, awesome drawings on devart bumped me up into actually trying it out. I always loved the creepiness of this game <3 But there are a few things I would like to figure out!
First of all.. whats the "etiquette" around here? Do adult deer avoid fawns because they can give them masks and change their hides? If someone does change your deers appearance, can you get your old appearance back? Is this new mask or pelt colour saved, so that you can switch it up and save it as a set later?
Also, how do people know who is who. Ive seen a few deer that look exactly the same, or pretty much the same, and I cant fathom memorizing all these sigils for names. Is it considered "rude" to "copy" another deers appearance? Those are just some of the first questions that sprung to mind ^^ I would love to know more about the stigmas and general...unspoken "rules" around here.
I look forward to getting to know you all!

Here's a good blog someone
Welcome to the community
Most people use the map to help find out who is who, or you can take a screenshot of the deer in question ("P" while you are playing) and post it on the community for the player to respond to. And as far as I know, it's not considered rude to have the same appearance as another deer, especially with a limited number of pelts, masks, and antlers.
Hey there Namaste, welcome!
All I can say to you is relax.
Now I personally don't like giving any pointers on body language or etiquette for that matter because learning to understand it is one of the most magical parts of the game. I've been here for about two years and I'm still learning new combinations, different interpretations, context etc. And with each deer I am in a learning to "speak" differently. There are certain common interpretations and very basic etiquette, but it's in no way universal.
There are probably people who see this differently, but I firmly believe new players should be free to explore the forest for themselves without the risk of offending anybody. It's a big part of the forest's original appeal.
So, to address your questions directly:
Adults don't avoid fawns for spells, no. There are plenty of spell-spamming adult deer around, so there's no difference in that really.
You can get your old appearance back, yes. If you press esc and go to the Network menu, there's an option to save and load your appearance. It is also saved each time you quit the game.
Also in the interaction menu, if you click the second sign from the left, you can sneeze off parts of your set.
People do memorize the pictograms, yes! Though I can assure you you're not the only one who tends to be forgetful.
There's also the Live Forest Map. You can click on a pictogram and it'll take you to the user.
There are plenty of deer with the same appearance around. There's not enough possible combinations for everyone to have a unique set, so nobody will jump down your throat, don't worry.
((ideally, that is. if you're unlucky you may come across someone who doesn't understand this, but generally it shouldn't happen))
And lastly I will link you to the incredibly useful TEFc Directory. A lot of tips and tricks are covered there.
Thank you all for your
Thanks again!
