Puppy Issues

I know its weird to post stuff about puppies but im desperate! i didnt spell it right but oh well.

i have a 4 month old border collie st bernard mix at first he had really bad Parvo a deadly sickness only to dogs. Pupppies are most likely to get it, scince older dogs have a stronger immune system.

My puppy Dakota will not stop biteing ive tried putting pennies in a jar and shaking it, swipping him and saying "no", ive tried making a weird sound when he bites as a signal to make him think his playmate is hurt and to stop, ive tried holding him down, putting him outside and even replaceing my hand and toes with a toy.

using this website is my last hope if this doesnt work i'll have to get rid of the poor baby. id appriciate any help i can get.

thanks

When my Shih-tzu nipped I

When my Shih-tzu nipped I would just make a squeaking sound and usually that worked. When it didn't I would pick her up and put my hand next to her and she'd lick rather than bite. She doesn't do this any more, except when she gets really excited.

Lucky pup. Parvo is a nasty,

Lucky pup. Parvo is a nasty, nasty thing.

Shriek/yelp when he bites you, if that's not what your 'weird noise' is, and then replace your hand with the toy.
You can also try ending the game any time he bites, so that he learns that if he plays rough, you won't play any more. Turn your back on him and absolutely ignore him for a while.
You can also try a spray called Bitter Apple and apply it to your hands before you play, and make sure you play with a toy and not just your hands, so that she doesn't associate your hands with the game.

Part of it is just going to be dealing with her puppy/teething stage until she grows out of it. She's going to have a lot of her adult teeth starting to come in, and her gums are going to itch.

Yeah, parvo is awful. The

Yeah, parvo is awful. The virus attacks new cells in the intestinal tract, which means it can't make new cells to replace the old ones and eventually you've got a thinner layer of tissue that has trouble absorbing, so it causes the bloody diarrhea. Add that to the vomiting and other problems it causes, and you have one sick puppy. Without treatment, it's pretty much guarunteed that they won't get through it - and even with treatment the chances aren't always good. And since it's a virus, you can only treat the symptoms and support them until they get through it. It's really rough - that's why vaccines are so important! You have a lucky kiddo.
