:.{Wild Is The Wind | A short story feat. Jareth and Chime}.:

The room was silent aside from his breathing, deep but quiet. His chest rose and fell evenly, blue eyes with their odd pupils staring up at the white sheet that hung over the bed's frame and fell in silky curtains on either side. Eventually Jareth sat up, swinging his legs over the side of the bed. He looked out of the window - the wooden shutters were open since it was only late afternoon. It was foolish of him to keep them open; seeing the outside world only tempted him to join it, to spread his white wings and fly out to find her...
But that, too, would be foolish. Her letter...If you find a heart, come around sometime. If he found a heart? Her choice of words seemed to be poor - Jareth had found a heart. He'd found it, and gained nothing. Nothing but sorrow. That was all he'd ever really gotten from her, wasn't it? Sorrow? But what about the times they'd laughed? When they'd talked? Joked together, even if it had been rare?
What about the times they'd--
"No." He repeated the word. "No." Those kisses had meant nothing.
Nothing to her, at least. Oh how she'd drawn him to her! Lured him in, tricked him, without his noticing - until it was too late, and he'd fallen. With broken wings. He remembered the time they'd last met. She'd ended it, and he had spoken...But why hadn't he told her that she mattered? That, in a way, he needed her?
That he loved her?
The answer to the last question was there - it would do no good. She knew he loved her. And still she was harsh, and cruel. Cruel. He was more fragile than she thought, it seemed.

The silence was irritating, but it was broken by the sound of his footsteps as he headed to the door, long hair falling over his shoulders. Jareth made his way downstairs and into the livingroom. His housemate was not there. A sigh escaped his lips. Was she angry at him for snapping? He wouldn't have been surprised...Then again, Chime was warmer than Tuna; she forgave him even when he raged at her, was ready to sit down and talk with him until he'd let go of some of his frustration. Tuna had put up with him longer than he'd thought anyone could, but Chime was doing a better job of it. Chime understood why Jareth was so harsh. At least he'd apologised; Chime was one of the few people in this world or any other that he did not like to see upset.
Once he'd returned to his bedroom in a dark state of mind, it didn't take long for him to fall asleep out of boredom.

Chime yawned as she entered the house, looking at the clock on the wall. It was only 7pm...After making herself some soup, the golden-brown-haired woman trailed upstairs. She intended to read for a while, but stopped outside the white door to Jareth's bedroom. Curiousity got the better of her, and she knew Jareth would not be too angry at her for peeking inside. Chime opened the door wide enough for her head to poke through, and a confused look flitted across her features. The room was almost identical to Jareth's bedroom in his castle. The mirror, the crystal that sat on the dressing table...Lying on his back on the bed was the Goblin King himself, but the female could only see his silhouette through the curtains over his bed. She left the room silently.
Jareth awoke to darkness. It must have been past midnight. Surely Chime would be back by now? He decided to find out; he stalked out of the room, and after adjusting his clothing slightly, entered Chime's bedroom. Chime was fast asleep, a book half-open in her limp hands. A small smile crept across the long-haired male's face and he approached cautiously. Taking the book away and setting it on the bedside cabinet, his gaze roamed over her peaceful expression. But her lips parted and spoke.
"Olive..."
Her slurred murmer struck him like an arrow, but he forced it out of his mind. Chime didn't speak too often in her sleep. Jareth seated himself in the wooden chair by her bed, and simply watched her, humming softly. The tune was a sorrowful one, and his mind strayed to Tuna. How she'd hurt him...Shattered him. And she didn't care. I'll move on, she'd written. Apparently it was easy for her. She had someone to love, someone who loved her in return.
Jareth did not.
His thoughts were of her, but she was past him. She could live happily without him, but he didn't want to see her leave him.
A gloved hand slipped into Chime's as his humming ceased.
"Sweet dreams."
How fortunate that she was there.

Yeah xD The tune he's humming to is Wild is The Wind by David Bowie, which is the song I wrote this to. ...Well, actually xD I wrote it to Wild is the Wind up until Jareth falls asleep, wrote it to Heroes up until Chime goes to her bedroom, and the rest I wrote to I Absoloutely Love You. cB
