where no light can travel :: deer biographies

Kanaf's picture
OH GOD I'm making one of these again.

Any pictures giving will probably be sketches and are likely to remain that way. I don't have a lot of time to put too much effort into making a masterpiece for every deer, so I'll just give simple drawings that clearly depict how the deer looks.

Another note: The Hungry is the only deer I'm likely to play in Forest. The rest are for stories or roleplay.

The Hungry

Gender: Stag
Age: Adult (exact age is unknown)
Build: Thin and sickly, but surprisingly strong
Titles: The Hungry, The Glutton, Famine, Greed

Information: The Hungry is a stag who has suffered drastic effects because of a curse. He was once happy, with a mate and child on the way. No one who knows how he was cursed remains alive, and he himself has forgotten.
The curse includes these effects: Absolutely no satiation, no matter how much he eats, and the inability to die of natural causes. Inert effects include those coming into contact with him without dying immediately seem to, more often than not, undergo extremely unfortunate events. These events are always linked to The Hungry in some way or another.
His curse has caused him to go mad. Instead of gorging on plant life like other deer, he has slowly turned to meat in desperation to eat more and more at one time. This started off as small birds and animals, but quickly grew to the need for fawns, and eventually full grown deer. He now refuses anything smaller than an adult deer. He will eat a deer in one sitting, only leaving out bones and diseased flesh, if there is any (tumors, cysts, warts, etc.)
Another cause of his insanity is sever lack of sleep. Starvation eating away at his body and the pain of withering away has kept him from falling asleep often. And if he manages to sleep at all, it's never relaxing. This has thrown his rational thought out the window and leaves him in an almost whimsical, care-free state. His attention span is shorter than a blade of grass and he often forgets what he's talking about mid sentence. It's been seen that he has more clarity of thought after managing a nap, but it quickly fades after a day or so.
When given a clearer mind, it's easily seen that he does have a more sadistic side hidden beneath his rattled brain. Murder and torture of other deer is the result of a need for revenge. He doesn't know who cursed him, but he hates whoever it was, and he'll keep killing to show off his hatred.
In short, if you encounter The Hungry, and he doesn't seem to be stalking anyone, he can be a little interesting to be around. But keep your distance.

Nero

Gender: Stag
Age: Unknown
Build: Smaller, but strong
Titles: Usurper, God of Darkness, The Devil (all self-proclaimed)

Info: Nero was a split personality of a stag named Clockwork, who was blessed with omniscience (no longer in the Forest). While inside Clockwork's subconscious he slowly unlocked the true magic of the Forest. The idea came to him that the Twin God's were doing nothing but tricking the deer and limiting their access to magic. It was then he gained the idea to overthrow the Twin Gods and call the Forest his own.
After a miserable defeat, Nero wandered the Forest for ages, cursed to be pained and shackled for his crimes. Every so often he would be seen passing by, and any deer who caught sight of him could only stand and watch, either in horrific memory, or, for those who were born after his time, in curiosity. Soon, there was no sight of him, and the memory faded.
Generations later, a statue of an evil deer was found by a cursed stag. The stag, in desperation to save his dear son, sacrificed two deer in his rage. The statue crumbled, and one of the sacrifices took on the form of the once feared usurper god. It is unknown how he gained the form of the statue, or how he took over the stag after being cursed and cut off from all magic.
Nero has now accepted a new role of simply being the shadow to the Twin God's light. For every good there is an evil, and where the Twin Gods provide the good, he will provide the evil. He doesn't seem to have any desire of directly opposing the Twin Gods again.
We have yet to find out what his true intents are.

Sin

Gender: Unknown, supposedly stag
Age: Fawn
Build: Thin and fragile
Titles: Baby Boil, Little Lump, Teratony (all given by Hungry)

Info: Sin is the child of The Hungry. Hungry at first thought he simply adopted the child out of curiosity, but then later found out that it was his true son. His appearance is likely due to Hungry's curse: giving devastatingly negative effects on anyone who comes into contact with him and lives.
When asked, the family of Hungry's mate, Cin, will answer that she was very depressed and distraught over her pregnancy, suggesting that she became pregnant after Hungry had been cursed, but the effects weren't apparent yet. This would mean that she knew Sin would probably be cursed as well, and was terrified of what the outcome might be.
Sin himself seems very happy at heart. He has basic feelings (happiness, sadness, fear, etc.), and he also seems to have more complex emotions, such as being protective, as well as a sixth sense of knowing Hungry may be in danger. Not only this but he seems to know his way around his home very easily, which is remarkable given that he's blind.
Sin's developmental status is currently unknown because of signs of normal intelligence.

The Crawler

Gender: Male
Age: Unknown
Build: Lean, monkey-like
Titles: The Crawler, The Sloth, The Climber

Info: The Crawler is a strange and rarely seen creature. He's usually nocturnal, so sight of him is difficult due to his dark color. He almost never touches the ground, preferring to climb around along the tree branches. Because of this, he likes to stay away from open areas, and would rather stay in thicker forest.
The Crawler is a curious but shy animal, often times observing other deer while trying to remain hidden. This can give off a threatening signal, but he means absolutely no harm. When pursuing an interesting deer, he will try to remain silent and fluid while grabbing branches. When he feels particularly out in the open, he will often wait for a breeze to disguise the noise of his movements.
The Crawler loves blueberries, and can be spotted at night picking them from a low branch with a long arm. The Birch Forest seems to be a favored location because of thickly netted branches that are relatively high off the ground. One can have little luck of spotting him during the day because he has a favorite tree he sleeps in, which is very tall and the branches form a kind of bowl at the top. He has put down leaves and pine needles in this tree to make a little bed. He also likes to climb around the Ruins when no one is around as the architecture makes for a fun playground.
The Crawler has not yet had any direct contact. It's unknown whether he can speak.
