Eloa was moving with a quick pace once she and Nilo were back in the forest. She'd left after speaking with Voltaire to find Nilo, knowing he'd have some info about how to call Voltaire's daughter's soul to the woods. She glanced back at him hoping that she wasn't imposing on the other but he did agree. She gave a deep sigh and looked forward again and pressed on, trying to locate the fallen angel. She eventually found him alone amidst the shadow of the trees and slowed her pace as she approached. "He has gone through much...forgive him if he seems a bit harsh at first" she whispered to Nilo before approaching the other. Once in his sights she bowed and smiled brightly. "Hello again!" her voice was cheerful and bright. The orb that hug from his antlers glowed faintly with her presence. "I brought a friend with me...this friend..well they said they'd help me with that task we talked about" she said feeling a rush of excitement and nervousness.

( YAS )

Voltaire eye's were sullen and fatigued as they usually were, staring blankly at two shrubs shoving each other mildly from the force of the forests haunting breath that crept against the back of Voltaire's neck. Eloa had left and the chill of fear prowled up his spine, she was finding a friend. Not only was he nervous to meeting a new creature, he was more nervous than ever to attempt to find Maggie's spirit within the forest.

"Hello Eloa." Voltaire greeted with an arid pitch. His crimson churlish eyes fastened with the other who acquainted her. He said nothing but a stiff nod of his head and turned back toward Eloa, waiting for her to describe what would happen.

His soul began to hurt once she was there and his fear level was increasing at a shocking rate. His eyes were burnished like he had been mourning and his voice was scratchy and hoarse like he'd been yelling. He wasn't upset recently, it was almost like it would be kept like that until things were going to change within his life. There was too much negativity and sorrow for his soul and physical state to be viewed as healthy.

Nilo flicked an ear at Eloa's

Nilo flicked an ear at Eloa's warning, but otherwise had no response to her words. Such matters didn't bother him. He stepped beside her, head held somewhat high, expression a bit wary as he surveyed the forest around them, only to settle his bright green eyes on the troubled soul she had brought him to meet.

A curt nod in response to his, ears lowering back to their usual drooping as he quietly regarded the other, before he shifted his weight and gave the doe an expectant look.

The doe glanced between the two and frowned before facing Voltaire again. "My friend Nilo here, he can help" she said slowly moving closer to nuzzle the other gently. To be honest however she wasn't sure at all how Nilo planned to help. He had taught her about portals and his love knew about souls so maybe, just maybe that was the key. Opening a portal to call for a soul? She wasn't sure. "Do we need to get anything...go anywhere special to do this?" she asked Nilo softly.

Voltaire kept his eyes

Voltaire kept his eyes strictly on Eloa as she spoke and then drifted to Nilo as the question was asked. He didn't feel like speaking, he wasn't sure what was going to come out. He was fearful, anxious, agitated, and eager. The thought was slowly sinking into his mind that he may see his little girl again and he felt every single emotion touch him at that thought.

He then looked around, his mind distracted as his heart rate quickened. He was now worried that maybe this ritual will hurt Maggie. All he wanted was for her to be safe and sound. If this was a way to risk her well being, he would step down immediately.

The Copperhead's gaze

The Copperhead's gaze flickered away at the doe's question, focusing on the ground between them. Truthfully he had only taken her up on her offer simply because...no one did. How many times had he mentioned he could help others and actually had them request it of him? Only twice in his lifetime. It seemed like something that was in his wheelhouse. He worked with souls all the time. Granted, most of the time he worked with still living ones... the ones already in the afterlife were more in Vanitas' wheelhouse. And that was something he couldn't ask him to do without putting unnecessary stress on Eloa. Or this guy.

"That depends..." he started to respond quietly, voice trailing off a little before his gaze snapped up to focus on Voltaire, "...do you know where this ligh-...ah...soul is? Do you own anything that it once identified with? Was attached to?" He allowed a couple of heartbeats of silence before his gaze slipped over to Eloa as he added, "I've never actually asked a light to come to me, I've always gone to them, if I sought one out at all..." his voice went softer as he added, "I've guided them in the afterlife, I've healed them, I've helped them pass on, but I've never actually summoned one to me. If there was something to help them find him, hear us maybe...wherever the spirit is, that might help better. I could also go into whatever world this spirit is, and find them too."

"Maybe" Eloa began after Nilo's explanation. "Maybe you can find her and I can lead her back. I've had more experience in that sort of world...maybe through you I can do that?" she said with a wide eyed hope that this could work and not only work but go without much of a hitch."You're not going alone..I'll be doing this with you " she added

Voltaire shook his head with disappointment at Nilo's question. His eyes fell to the earth and his eyes closed almost sheepishly. "No. I have nothing except a feather and this lovely necklace Eloa made for me." His tone was at a minor pitch with an almost smooth texture.

Voltaire's head bobbed up and his crimson eyes switched between the two deer as they conversed about a plan. The talking was foreign to him and his grasp on the idea was loose and unknown. He began to get impatient but he knew Eloa and Nilo had to figure something out. His mouth interrupted their conversation with his eyes towards Eloa. "I want you to-" Voltaire glanced back at Nilo and cleared his throat awkward and impatiently. "I want you both to be careful okay?"

At his answer to his question, the buck nodded with a soft "I see..." though he went quiet to ruminate on Eloa's suggestion.

His gaze flicked to her, nodding once, "That would be best...perhaps through me finding them, you leading them back...that might work well." He went silent to listen to the stag speak again, uncertain if he was referring to the doe or himself, or both of them, but at the last part of his words, the Copperhead gave another little bow of the head.
"We'll bring the soul you seek back to you."

"We'll be safe I promise" She said gently and smiled at him. She turned back to Nilo, glad that it sounded like a good idea. She was glad she had asked him for help. "How shall we start? Combine our light magic?" she suggested "And perhaps the bond with his daughter can be enough to connect us to her"

The smokey stag sent his eyes toward Nilo, giving him an appreciative grin. He listened to the two discuss again, wondering where his part would tie in and finally as the thought was in his mind, Eloa mentioned his bond.

His head lifted as he looked down at her with a sheepish smile. "That's something I can most definitely provide." Voltaire said with deep pride within his tone. It was so surreal that he was going to see Maggie again he couldn't stop thinking about it. He was so distracted, Eloa and Nilo's conversation was tuning in and out within his ears just thinking about his daughter. He remained worried however because he didn't understand the consequences of the resurrection and quite frankly, he didn't want to think about it too deeply. He genuinely worried about planting a bad thought so he attempted to keep his focus strong.

He couldn't help but sense it in him anyway- but it was always nice when others brought it up themselves. It was less of a violation of his privacy that way."Yeah? Great. If you can keep their memory strong, I can see where that leads. It ties them to you. What's their name?" He tilted his head slightly at the question.

"Maggie is her name" Eloa said with much love and respect for the soul in her words. "I can provide the energy to reach that world...I know how to touch it but I'll need the extra aid to open the door" she said to Nilo as she took a deep breath and prepared herself for this massive energy she was about to use.

Voltaire felt his heart glaze

Voltaire felt his heart glaze with hope as she spoke his daughters name aloud. He felt the fur on his nape stand nervously as Eloa released a puff of air. He mimicked her and inhaled his courage and exhaled his skeptical state of mind, shifting his expression to be strong willed and ready for whatever was going to happen.

He stood back a little bit just in case the two needed room to build up their energy. His eyes jumped between them anxiously as he waited for the time to come.

"Ah...a lady," he mused in a gentle quiet tone, head tilting up as he spoke, "...Maggie. We will bring her home to you." If she wished to come. He didn't add that part, hoping it was something that would never come up, or that Eloa could persuade her otherwise. He shot the male a quick warm smile before his focus returned to the doe's words. The smile faded into a skeptical look, his stance shifting as he allowed his vision to bleed out and let the magic take its place.
"You've been practicing then?" He asked, his ears flicking forward. He could have just as easily got them there, if not easier, but after his mishap some weeks before, he was a bit leery of putting himself at risk again. Granted the door itself was the least of his worries, the afterlife wasn't the kindest of places for him. He pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind, not wanting Van to catch them, to worry or stop him from holding to his words.

"yes I have" she smiled. Especially with her portal abilities and how they related to her white magic. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath and released her white magic to become a sort of battery for Nilo to use to open the rift to the world beyond. Her legs shook violently but she held on. Angelic ghost like wings unfolded from the white aura that surrounded her and the halo that held her pictogram grew brilliantly.

Voltaire locked eyes with Nilo and nodded slowly. His eyes squinted slightly as he caught a shot of something between them. He couldn't quite read it and he didn't understand what happened. His head pounded in objection to Voltaire's thoughts and he tried to swallow the blooming electricity he felt in his body. It had happened before but it was so vague it hardly meant a thing but slight discomfort for him. He shook the thoughts away.

The black buck staggered back as Eloa vibrated from the use of her energy. His worry began to grow and his heart pulsed quicker. His eyes narrowed as the light bulged and poured over the the landscape, her wings unfolded elegantly and his breath was taken. He felt every emotion seeing her wings along with envy but for now he stared and watched the light gleam brightly.

Nilo cackled happily after a couple of heartbeats, his eyes a green fire as he connected with Eloa's magic and letting his run wild. The buck's tail perked up as he took a few steps around her, the world, the black stag, the ground under his hooves, fading away into nothing as he followed the soul's tie to the place she was in. Using a forehoof, he stabbed an uneven window out of the air itself, moving quickly and trying to coax it to drain more from him than Eloa, so there was less of a chance she would buckle under the added pressure.
"Okay..." he shifted himself around to focus on her and stand beside the door, glancing once at the black stag with a somewhat blank look, before focusing on Eloa again, "ready...?"

Once he was inside Eloa let out a soft gasp of air. A thin silver thread followed the male inside, acting as a tether to the land of the living so he could find his way back. Her eyes closed as she maintained the intense focus it required to keep the door open. The deeper Nilo went the more the world of the spirits attached to the tether and seemed to seep into her own body. The white light flickered and melted with a green light. Both lights danced about her and was able to help her maintain a solid open portal for Nilo.

Voltaire's daze slowly began to subside once Nilo was within the afterlife. He glanced at Eloa and didn't breathe a word, not wanting to disrupt her concentration. All the lights and the performance before him was already overwhelming enough and if he was going to see his daughter again, he wasn't even sure what he'd do.

His heart did something different. His mind following his heart as he did something he hasn't done since he Fell. A prayer was released from him to his Lord and it almost shocked him that he had done it subconsciously. However, right now, it was needed the most.
kiwara's picture

To Nilo, the afterlife was

To Nilo, the afterlife was nothing more than a maze of energies and it took him a good deal of time sorting through all the information he was given- even with his path set out for him to follow. The last time he had done something similar, he had had Van to lean on and confer with, this time he was utterly alone. It was a fact he didn't think over until after he found the soul and was coaxing her back with him, trying to turn it into a game so it wasn't like he was latching onto her energy and dragging her back by force. That was something he had never been able to do.

Following Eloa's tether, he eventually stumbled out of the door after poking the little ball of light through with his snout, murmuring seemingly half-mad reassurances to her under his breath while he tried to regain a sense of himself and not completely collapse on his face. He barely managed it, pulling himself around to give Eloa a nod to close off her energy, or close the door-whichever she preferred- before giving the black stag a shaky smile, "Found her."

Once through the soul would

Once through the soul would be welcomed by the magic of the forest, shaping it to fit the world it was in. This place was a resting place of lost souls, it was made for things like this. When she was sure both were through she let out a gasp and the door snapped shut loudly, leaving an echoed thunderous clap in it's wake. She stumbled back watching the interaction between Nilo, the spirit and Voltaire and smiled, glad to see they had succeeded. Her world grew blurry and before she knew it she was out, just as it had when her black magic had been opened. It drained her considerably and while she was very weak now she would survive. She lay on the dirt, utterly drained, but with a smile on her face.

Voltaire felt his blood pulse

Voltaire felt his blood pulse through his veins like a powerful river. His eyes fell on a small body. His body wavered and almost collapsed before he saw Eloa fall to the earth. He looked at her wanting to run toward her and ask if she was okay but he couldn't find the strength to step forward. He glanced at Nilo and gave him a smile before finally stepping toward his daughter's new body.

His eyes were full of tears as he saw her little lungs finally exchanging air with her body moving in small ways. She was a little white fawn with vague red undertones and golden hooves. Her forehead was fluffed like bangs similar to Voltaire's and her eyes were a vibrant emerald green that finally opened to see the world. She moved her head slowly but then shortly fell back down.
Before her head hit the earth Voltaire dove forward to catch her cheek and rest it gently down to the soft grasses again.

Touching her face was so strange this way but it was something and he felt a void in his heart was filling as tears dripped down his face. He fell down to the ground and curled his body around her and groomed her. His mind was finally clearing of haze and reality was taking it's place. Eloa didn't fall far from Maggie so he craned his neck forward to touch her with his nose " My god, Eloa... are you okay?" Voltaire said as his heart rate picked up again with worry.

The Copperhead tried to

The Copperhead tried to fathom what was happening around him, but it was all happening far too fast for him to comprehend. The ground kept slowly turning under him if he tried to focus on any one point, and though he kept trying to force himself to put up a brave front, he wasn't exactly succeeding in doing so. Head held low, he wobbled in a half circle when Eloa collapsed, half being pulled to her still and half just trying to keep up with the situation. His green eyes had dulled upon his return, his frame a bit haggard, his former enthusiasm gone. Somewhere in what felt like a minute he had been staring at the grass and earth, Maggie had taken a form, Eloa had collapsed, and he was left staring blankly at all three of them trying to sort out how that had happened without him realizing it.

Eloa's breath was slow, but

Eloa's breath was slow, but steady. Her energy very low having used much of her new energy as well as her own white energy in the event. It would take her at least a day before she was awake and another before she was up and walking again. She did not answer Voltaire though her current look would not need to raise any concern.
Humdity's picture

Voltaire had his expression

Voltaire had his expression sincere as Eloa's face presented him that she would be just fine. He sighed with relief and glanced back at Nilo again making sure he was alright too. Then his cardinal flaming eyes fell on the little being curled up next to his large shaking body. His mind flooded with thoughts and his heart boomed so hard in his chest he could vaguely hear it.

As a few moments went by, Maggie's huge green eyes inched slivers, clearly sensitive to the light of the world she was now to begin a new life in. The Fallen Angel felt his tears drip on his daughters pelt and each droplet hit a shimmering glow to her body. He gawked with amazement at her beauty. Finally he collected himself enough to speak.

"Hey baby girl..." He said, his deep voice, usually hoarse, was toned to a sweet soothe. "I missed you." To his words, Maggie looked up hesitantly to meet her father's eyes. She stared for a few moments. Voltaire saw past her different body into her soul where he recognized her like she never left him, although she did seem older. But either way his heart melted as she watched him again. He wanted to look at her for so many years and tell her how much he loved her, and he thought that that was never going to happen again. Until he met Eloa and Nilo.
He couldn't explain the emotions he was going through with each second slipping past. It was like he was in a dream that soon he would wake up from and it would all be back in his bed in his old world. But he was here, and now was the time to take advantage to see his lovely little lady again.

"It's me... it's daddy."

----

( This is Maggie's POV )

The world stroke her soul like a dagger to the chest. The light pooling in from being previously blinded in such a dark tunnel was implausibly overwhelming. Her body was beginning to buzz with life like it did long before and the feeling was sensational yet utterly uncomforting. She felt the warmth of fur pressed against hers which made her eyes force open to meet a huge black stag with his body wrapped around her like a blanket. She was quite frightened before she met the eyes of this black monster. Looking deeper than before she found something familiar. Something she had been looking for.

It was until he spoke that made Maggie extend her vision and her eyes filled with tears. Now that the fawn was older (roughly 12) she could understand more and perceive the situation with rationality better than when she died. At first she only stared but as she opened her mouth to speak, a raspy tone slipped out painfully. "D...daddy?"

More than a little lost, the buck blinked between them, but didn't speak up to break the moment. He slowly, painfully, folded his limbs under him where he stood and rested his head against an outstretched foreleg. Some part of his mind wondered if his own daughter would talk to him that way, or if the concept was so far out there that it would never grace her mind. His ear flicked in annoyance at the thought, silently cursing ferals for what they were, before the thought was lost in the fog of his mind. Eloa would be okay, the fawn-Maggie- was okay...
His head tilted ever so slightly toward the black stag, a half-lidded eye fixed on his own, "...what's your name...?" His voice was almost too soft to be heard.

Voltaire looked away for a moment at the sound of a voice. He was so caught up within the moment it took him a minute to realize it wasn't Maggie speaking, but a male. He craned his neck to see Nilo with exhaustion printed upon his face. "I am Voltaire." The black buck pronounced with ease as he turned back toward Maggie curled within his side. He looked closer to see that she had fallen asleep again and his smile widened as she rested easily, knowing she was reunited with her father once again.

He turned to the other buck once more. "I couldn't ever thank you enough for what you have done for my daughter and I." Voltaire said quietly, his voice heartfelt and warm. "You and Eloa deserve nothing but pure greatness for your true duties." He glanced at Eloa again and frowned with disappointment. He wished she didn't have to lay there on her own so he stood up, lifting sleepy Maggie with the tip of his nose and walking toward Eloa to wrap himself around the two. "If you would like you can join us, Nilo." He said quietly, turning to him.

He nodded weakly at the male's response, trying to commit his name to memory and feeling uncertain as to if he actually managed it or not. Well...he'd just have to see later. The real test of his memory was when he woke up later from passing out, anyway. Nilo felt himself starting to slip in the silence that followed, head starting to list to one side in its path to flop off his foreleg and onto the ground.
An ear perked forward at his voice, mumbling a sleepy, "I'm happy to help...s-sss..." a yawn, "...souls need to go back to those that love them. Don't deserve to stay...apart..." he trailed off, ear lowering back as he almost fell asleep. Almost. Voltaire's voice pulled him back at the last moment.
If you want, you can join us, Nilo...
His eyes opened a fraction to find the black stag had moved the fawn and himself over by Eloa, suddenly conscious of the space between them. Permission to sit with his own friend? He coughed, his attempt at a scoff, but he was too tired to even be properly offended.
"...she...didn't say you were a family," his tone was soft, if not hurt or disappointed, "...in the way, I'll leave..." with a tremendous effort he rolled to his shaking, unsteady hooves..."...my...mate's probably worried anyway."

Voltaire knew he was going to

Voltaire knew he was going to protect his little one with his life no matter what. Probably to the extent as not letting any strangers get too close. Voltaire felt Nilo's attempt to present that he was offended without much of an effort on his part. He narrowed his eyes and looked away. He didn't understand why he was possibly offended but he was just showing his trust by letting Nilo near his fragile daughter. Probably something that should have been more appreciated. Although, he shrugged it off. Right now he did not feel like speaking his mind.

The black stag was slightly offended at the fact that Nilo had decided to wobble away with practically no energy just to leave. He bent his ears back and nodded silently. Tightening his large mass over the two small beings. It wasn't worth getting worked up about so he rested his head down to the earth and closed his eyes.
