Returning to the forest - A wolf's Rain styled Deer RP

Zergarikiaka's picture
Gray clouds coated the virtually endless sky. A few fickle beams of sunlight filtered threw the clouds, melting away patches of snow. The ground was half covered in snow and slush from a previous blizzard from several days before. In contrast to the melting snow, a sloppily plowed tar road led a strait pathway threw a large city's suburban area. The buildings were starting to crumble on theirselves, as if repeated snowfall and rain spells had caused serious corrosion. A few people were walking about, concerned with their own business. Many seemed to be rejecting use of their once prized vehicles - the macheinery didn't seem to be working for anyone lately anyway. A few of the more stubborn citezens meanwhile would continue to attempt to get their cars and such back into working condition, one or two actually seeming successful. Most people however, simply stayed indoors. It was the tail end of winter, and there wasn't much of a point going out into the cold.

--------(Just a bit of setting description to start off with. Feel free to add more in your own posts!)----

"The city's not far away... Race yua there! Last one there eats salad leftovers!" An orca doe proclaimed, suddenly breaking out of the easy paced walk she had previously been in. Directly behind her, a silver coated fawn blinked in suprise at the challenge, and took off running after his sister. They had been walking in the direction of the city for days, knowing it could provide a bit of shelter on their way back to the Endless Forest. It was uncertain how they lost the way home and got so far away, but there had to be some way back home. There were lingering scents of other traveling deer in the air, somewhat masked by the metallic smell of the melting snow and pollution in the air. Others might be around, or so one could hope.

Queze trudged along the

Queze trudged along the dirty excuse for a road absentmindedly kicking at lumps of snow with his heavy boots. Shoulders and back hunched against the damp cold, he kept his eyes downcast. The humans he passed saw nothing more than a large imposing man in puffy winter coat and baggy jeans. A particularly sharp blast of cold wind whipped round him and he shivered, longing for the warm comfort of the forest he so fondly remembered. For now, the city would do.

The two had continued to

The two had continued to sprint in the wet slop that used to be snow, occasionally slipping and barely avoiding contact with the tar road. As if carried by abnormal amounts of energy, the two all but slowed down in thier path, until the heavy polluted air of the city hit their lungs half an hour later. Gasping for breath, the two deer stood still in the slush, keeping theirselves out of sight of the people further into the city. Not bothering to ask, the young fawn's appearance changed as they hid - into the image of a child. A moment later his sister did the same, though seeming much older than he. It was a chilling feeling to look do... human... but whatever kept them unnoticed was for the best. They soon began to head into open view, only walking. "We should probably look for a place to eat..." Zerg commented, partially unsure that was possable.

It was warmer once inside

It was warmer once inside the city but the wind whistled eerily through the abandoned husks of buildings. Following the sounds of voices, Queze arrived at a cluttered little market square. Few actual businesses had survived over the passing years, now most chose to bring their wears to make-shift markets like this one. Breathing deeply the aroma of fruits and spices Queze could almost pretend he was back home in the tropics...if not for this infernal cold! Sighing he returned to the here and now, moving to look over a selection of dried fruit at one of the stalls.

The two quickly merged into

The two quickly merged into the thin crowd of people walking between the market, jobs, and homes. A few people who clearly just left the market carried plastic bags loftilly as they passed. The streets and sidewalks were still coated in snow and ice, occasionally salted in areas more traveled. Overall the snow in the denser area of the subburbs was trampled into a thin, solid mass over the pavement. The smells of burned fuel and a few hundred people clogged the senses of the two deer, but the faint promase of the smell of food carried by random people passing by was enough to give direction for the market. "Hey, how are we going to get anything to eat anyway? We don't have money or anything to pay with..." Mar Sart pointed out as they walked. The slight vapor his breath produced in the cold created a slight fog over his glasses, prompting the fawn to remove the human creation from his face. Shrugging, Zerg didn't seem to have an awnser at the ready. "Maybe we'll find some scraps." she commented, crossing her arms behind her back. It was hard not to let her mind wander onto the blueberries and mushrooms they once enjoyed.

Having bought a small

Having bought a small selection of dried fruits and meat from the old lady behind the stall Queze proceeded to pack the goods away in his pack. Looking solemnly at what remained of his funds he muttered quietly to himself; "Damned snow...Had it been any other season, I could have lived off the hunt, or foraged in the forests!". A woman in the crowd eyed him and steered her children away, and Queze realized he'd been talking out loud. Looking around sheepishly he spotted two young...deer!?

The doe and fawn were just...standing there, the crowd of people flowing around them entirely unaware of the illusion that cloaked them, just as it did Queze. ...can they, see me?... he thought. Curious, he begun to make his way towards the two.

Finally reaching the market, the two deer stopped amidst the masses of people. The crowd was much thicker within the market than it had been on the way there. Being first to spot what looked to be a fruit stand, the child-disguised fawn pushed threw the crowd to get a better look at the groceries up for sale. He hadn't even noticed there was another deer in the crowd beside himself and his sister. Zerg froze momentarilly, feeling like someone had noticed her. Quickly looking around she finally spotted, yes, another magically disguised deer. Green pelted and feathered. It could only be another deer from the endless forest! No regular deer would ever appear so... well... interesting. Deciding her brother could take care of himself for the time being, she manuvered threw a thinner grouping of humans to greet the stag, noticing him already making his way toward where they were. She couldn't remember meeting him previously, but their home was a huge place... there were many unknowns. "Hey!" She called energetically, trying to forget the cold bite of the wind blowing threw the concrete forest. "Been a while since I've seen someone else from... well yua know." she added, careful not to actually shout out 'the endless forest' while surrounded by so many people. Anything to avoid getting funny looks from the funny looking creatures.

Queze looked down at the younger doe and smiled. "So you are...'not from around here' either? Oh but my name is Quezecot...um, Queze if you don't mind." He looked around. "Are you with others, I saw your...I assume he is your brother? Yes?"

Zerg returned the smile,

Zerg returned the smile, nodding. "Good to meet you then Queze. I'm Zergarikiaka... eh.. but you can just call me Zerg." She said. Toward the fruit stand, Mar Sart was curiously compairing the fruit stands grapes to plums, as if trying to decide what might taste better. "Yeah, he is." Zerg chuckled, glancing in the direction the fawn had run off in. "Ah, do you have any family or anyone else here?" she asked.

The large man nodded

The large man nodded thoughtfully, looking at Mar Sart as well; "Family is good, keeps you together and keeps you safe. I had a family once, a long time ago but I do not remember them well...n-not to say that I disliked them, He runs a hand over his bald head in embarrassment; "just that...it was a long time ago."
The stag leaned down to inspect the shorter doe closer, lowering his voice; "You and your brother are the first deer that I have seen since the forest, which was also a long time ago...have you met others before me?"
