The Maritic Guide with Kamaya

Welcome to the Maritic Guide! I thought some of you would like to know more about that land, its history but mostly its language, the maritin. You can consider that knowing this guide will help you to know more about Kamaya, Amika and Nutai.

This guide (especially the language part) will be updated as often as I can.

What Is Marity?

Marity is a land composed of nine islands, eight small ones and a big one which is the Main Island. These islands form a wolf paw print. The Main Island has a desert (at the left, on the map) and a snow-covered side (at the right, on the map). The middle is covered of forest and greenery along with some villages and cities. The four islands above it are known as the Volcano Island, the Nature Island, the Wind Island and the Lake Island. About the four smaller islands above, they are inhabited by a few people only.

The Volcano Island has, like suggests its name, a volcano called Feyr. Near it, there is the main village called Mariki. The maritic people believe that the Feyr volcano is the home of the Goddess of the Fire, Feyra.

The Nature Island has hills with wind mills on them along with a mountain called the Mount Torra which is supposed to be the home of the Goddess of the Earth, Torra. The main villlage is Yariki.

On the Wind Island grows a huge tree called the Aria Tree, home of Arïa, Goddess of the Wind. The main village is Kariki

And finally, the Lake Island. Where a strange but magical lake called the Hydrïe Lake hides Hydrïa, the Goddess of Water. Next to it is the Nariki village.

History & Mythology

Marity was used to be inhabited of animals. But since millenaries, humans had took an important role in the evolution of the land. Nobody really knew about how they came to it. But the oldest animals claimed that they used a specifical machine they created. The humans wanted to conquer Marity but in a different way. They wanted to discover the traditions of the Maritic animals and their believes to then live with them. At first, the wild creatures were skeptic, they didn't really believe in it and they were scared. But years passed and they finally became friends. The humans became important to animals and the animals became important to humans. It is said that the humans helped the inhabitants of the land to evolve in technology and in way of life. These last ones were soon treated like them. Marity wasn't perfect at all, though, even after what you just read about them, but this is just the story of the harmony between humans and Maritic animals.

The Maritic people believe in three families of gods. First, the Oakheart family, in charge of the life, the death, and the elements. Then comes the Childsoul family which takes care of the emotions and feelings. And then comes a last family which is becoming forgotten nowadays is the Ivoryfangs family also known as the Warrior family. This one is composed of gods which each one masters a fight technique but only the Maritic warriors still remember about them.

Now here are the gods composing the Oakheart family.

First, the Gods of the Gods and the Goddess of all the Goddesses, Spike Tails and Thousand Tails, they are considered as kitsune. Spike Tails is a name given by the people because he has spikes on his multiple tails, he is half demon and half god and is in charge of the Death. Thousand Tails is called like this because of her number of tails which can reach thousand. She is the Goddess of the Life and has two ways to be depicted. Maritic people often represent her has a huge yellow and white kitsune with thousand tails, white eyes, and giant teeth and fangs. The other way to depict her is as a human-sized bipedal kitsune with ten tails and blue eyes.

Now, about their "children", please note that they are considered as quadruplets.

Feyra is the Goddess of the Fire like you've read above, she is represented as a huge, but much less than her parents, fox. She is entirely in fire and has white eyes.

Torra, Goddess of the Earth, is said to be as the same size as Feyra. She looks like a fox with greenery and plants on her and she is green and brown with red eyes.

Arïa, in charge of the wind (and of the air), is a white fox with blue eyes and her legs with small wings.

Hydrïa is the Goddess of Water. See Vaporeon from Pokemon? Well, she looks like her expect that she has the same size as her sisters and is a fox and also has some physical differences.

Krystaëla
The origins of Krystaëlaë (plural form of Krystaëla) date back to an old tale that have become a myth throughout the years.

Once upon a time, in the snowy part of the Main Island, a young girl was lost after she ran away from her home. She hated her life, for her friends - whom she was very closed to - betrayed her. And she hated herself for being who she was.
As a snowstorm was striking, the little girl took shelter inside a cave, near a frozen waterfall, with a thousand of glooming crystals of ice all around the place. In the middle of a room, a very small cave within was made of some of those crystals. The girl hid in this tiny spot and let the tears rain down. She wanted a true friend, someone she could trust and rely on forever.
Without even noticing, some white smoke was flying above her, forming a female humanoid thing, created from the echoes of her cries. With beautiful hair, the creature was all pure white, no hands and no feet - that is, unless the spike formed at the tip of the arms and legs are considered as a single finger or toe - but a long tail with spikes resembling that of a stellar dendrite snowflake. Her skin was incredibly soft, and her body was reflecting colorful lights as if she was a crystal herself.
The little girl was right below her, between her downer limbs. Nonetheless, the young human stopped crying while she felt cold warmth surrounding her. She looked up and saw beautifully chrystalized eyes on her. Acting like a big sister, the humanoid creature held her tight in her arms.
The young girl felt safe and began speaking to the creature that listened to her with great care and kept silently repeating each of her words and sounds like the echo across the cave. And she kept talking and telling her about her problems and secrets.
Soon, the storm ceased and the female humanoid creature led the girl back home.

The tale adds that they kept seeing each other and even lived together until they died.
The creature was named "Krystaëla", a name that later became the name of their species.
Krystaëlaë are the symbol of Friendship and Brotherhood, sometimes depicted as having a sibling behavior.
The tale became more of a myth as many people reported sightings of those creatures. Real or not, there are some villages and cities where it has become a custom to bring a child who just learnt how to speak inside a cave where they have to speak with their heart (and make noises) which the echo will create a krystaëla that will forever be bonded to the child for life.

The Maritin

The Maritin is the maritic language. It is mostly a mix between French, Spanish, English and Japanese (And maybe other languages).

Let's talk about the pronunciations now.
U is pronounced "oo" like in Japanese.
R can be pronounce in two different ways. In the Main Island, they pronounce it like in French but in the other islands, they pronounce it as an L, just like in Japanese.
E is pronounced "eh".
SH is pronounced like a Z.
C is pronounced "sh".
CH is pronounced "tch".
Ä, Ë, Ï, Ö, Ü and such have a different pronunciation. For example, Nutai is "Noo-tah-y", however, if written with an Ï instead of an I, it would be "Nutaï", therefore "Noo-tah-ee".
Another example would be "Kereüa", it is pronounced "Keh-reh-oo-ah". However, if it was a U instead of Ü, it would be "Keh-reh-oo-wah".
For the Ï, if it's in the middle of a word, it will be pronounced "ee-y". Like for example, if "Kamaya" was written "Kamaïa", it will be "Ka-ma-ee-yah and not "ka-ma-yah".

And now, the personal pronouns and their possessive adjective. Green words are English and the red words are Maritin.

You, you, your | Ci, ce, cu
He/she, him/her, his/her | Li/shi, le/she, lu/shu (In French, the personal pronounce "on" (which is like "we" in English but to the third-person singular) is "oni" in Maritin.)

You, you, your | vi, ve, vu
They, them, their | Ti, te, tu (If they are males or at least one of them) tiä, teä, tuä (if they are females).
