Laptop Issues, any suggestions?

Snowrift's picture
Well, my laptop suddenly decided it would stop working. It wont turn on, it wont charge. The battery is brand new, and it has worked before. I tried charging it in different places, and even took the battery out and blew on it.

Has this happened to anyone else? Or does anyone have anything that might help?

Were you using it when it

Were you using it when it stopped working? It might have overheated.

Check nothing's been spilt inside it especially. I once spilt cola on my mother's laptop and it stopped working forever. x_x

Has it been dropped? Maybe

Has it been dropped?Question Maybe you need to leave it alone for a couple of days to let it drain.

Try this :3 I used to have

Try this :3 I used to have to do it to my Compaq Laptop all the time. Take out the battery. Then Hold Down the Power button for 60 seconds with the battery still out. Put the battery back in and see if it works.

This might sound strange,

This might sound strange, but give the battery a good sniff. If it smells a little odd, like something has burnt, then something inside the battery has given out. If it's brand new it could be a factory fault, in which case you should be able to get it replaced.

If you want to see if it's your laptop that has the problem, I would suggest trying to use the laptop with it plugged into the mains without the battery inserted to see if it will turn on. HOWEVER some laptops use the battery as part of the power circuit. If yours does use it as part of the power circuit, or if you're unsure/can't find out, do not do this as it will damage it.

Edit: I just did some reading-up and apparently the whole 'part of power circuit = damage' stuff isn't true. You might not even need to consider this anyway - for now, I would follow your nose and see if the battery is the problem ;D
