I have fixed the Windows 8 screenshot problem!!

EDIT: I FIXED IT! Major thanks to some IT friends.

It turns out it isn't a container or compatibility issue, it's actually a permissions issue. The fix is simple, actually. Just need to run as administrator. It will ask you about it every time you run it from then on once you set it, but you will be able to take screenshots and they show up! No "compatibility files" button needed!

So, there are two ways to go about this. You could do it the super annoying way by right clicking and selecting "run as administrator" every time or...

~ Go into wherever your game is installed. ...Program Files (86)/Tale of Tales/The Endless Forest 3 is the default for 64-bit Windows 8 (which is what mine is).
~ Find ForestViewer.exe and right click then select properties.
~ Click on the compatibility tab (I know I said it wasn't a compatibility issue...technically it isn't) and at the very bottom there should be an unchecked box that says "Run this program as an administrator" under the Privilege section.
~ Check that box.
~ Hit apply.

Image below cut!

Alternatively, after clicking the Compatibility tab instead of just checking the one box you can click the button right underneath it that says "Change settings for all users." It will bring you to the same options, but these will affect all users on the computer. Once there, check the "run this program as an administrator" box and click apply just like the other method. This is preferable if you aren't the only user who plays TEF on that computer.

I have Windows 8 (not by my choice! Boyfriend got me a new computer when my old one kicked the bucket and it came with Cool and as a few people seem to have noticed the "compatibility files" button is missing in Windows Explorer. I have wandered about all the file and folder options I can find but haven't found the compatibility files option or anything similar that works. Am I out of luck or does someone out there have an answer?

Also, I'm quite sure the 'p' key is working for screenshots. The game will lag/freeze ever so slightly when I hit it. I have the option set to save them as jpegs (though I took a few bmps and tgas just to see if it was somehow a unique jpeg problem since my friend wouldn't SHUT UP about the jpeg thumbnail glitch in Win8 which I already have the patch to fix anyway. =_____=).

Is there a display hidden/system files option?

Have it enabled, doesn't do

Have it enabled, doesn't do anything. Um... my friend more or less explained what is most likely going on with these images:

"They are probably using weird container files. It isn't 'real' jpg. That's probably why it has to be shown as compatible with older versions. It's like renaming video files to a different format so they play on a PS3 or something similar, the codec used to create the file isn't the actual standard, just compatible."

Seems likely. :/

You can still see your

You can still see your screenshot folder, correct?
Try right clicking it and creating a zip file copy of it, and E-mail that zip file to yourself and open it from a different computer.

No idea if this will work at all, but maybe worth a shot as a temporary workaround.

Yay :3 Looks like this

Looks like this 'always run as administrator' option is also available to Windows 7 users. Might be useful for those who have to run as an admin to make the game run at all, too.

Yeah. Apparently the real

Yeah. Apparently the real problem was it WASN'T taking screenshots. It was lagging/freezing because it was trying, but because it didn't have the right privilege level it could not.
So, in a way, I lost some screenshots, but it's okay. They were mostly test shots anyway...and the problem is fixed now so no more worries! ^_^

When you mean to go into

When you mean to go into wherever the game is installed, do you mean to go to the start menu...? Is it in a file on your desktop? Windows 8 confuses me, I never know where anything is.

Ok...so I found out I don't

Ok...so I found out I don't have the 64 bit like you do, but when I went to the start menu and right clicked where my game was intalled, it did give me an option to run as administrator..... Is that what you mean?
