The Herds

Over the years in the endless forest many herds have formed. It does change over time but the game allows it with its few rules. Humans look for ways to make relationships. It happened with the masks, time of year, and deer actions.

Flying Deer

Some one discovered if you walked to the top of one of hills ( one where the gods are, one by the lake on the humming tree side, and the one across from the ruins on the mother idol side) , run, and then continually pump either by keyboard jump or game controller button your deer will fly. You can soar through the trees and see the top of the ruins where the graveyard is and even land on parts of it. You can run on the hill of the gods toward the lake and soar over the lake among the trees. You can even land in the trees (except the willows) and sit. A herd of deer would do this and then dive, fly over your head as you played in the lake. You would see the hind end of the deer as it continued on in the sky away from you. Friendly flight and giggles. This group would hang out around the god statues and show others how to fly. Even run with you. On the forums they would share all the places they found they could fly. I learned how to fly but I never did learn how to sit in the trees. They also played flying tag. You could sit at the lake and see their antics in the air.

Deer of the Cross Charge the Hill of the Gods

Another large group would be at the ruins with the graveyard. They all had masks of white with a red blazing cross. The would march around the forest in a herd but it had a formation. We would all watch. They were serious deer. They took all the moves of the deer and some how made it militaristic. At some point they would head to the lake, and we would follow just to watch. Assembling at the bottom of the hill they would charge up to the white idols. A leader would look as if they were chatting with the idol gods. Then march back and by some silent command they all would charge the idols. After the chaos then they would all dance and all would join in the victory.

Love Deer of the Natural Cross

Over by the ruins where the graveyard is, right of the small mother idol in a diagonal direction lies some cut down trees with no branches. It forms a cross. The cross is surrounded by flowers that look like poppies. For years a large group bedded there. How you knew the group was they loved the neck caress. You would watch as a deer they knew walked up (symbols between antlers) and they would caress many times each other necks. Then they went on to the next deer and did the same till the whole group was done. At some point if you kept hanging around the wooden cross they would surround you and one would come up and caress your neck as long as you responded back. Then the rest would frolic with you in the flower field. Then when you came back and ran in the forest if they saw you they would come up and give neck caresses to you and play a bit. They were lovely. They would get fawns and take care of them like loving mom and dad. Teach them things. Some has as many as 8 fawns. For a long time that poppy field was full of fawns, frolicking, and caresses. If you came in from the world and it had beaten you up, you could go to the poppy field. They always liked you and caressed.

The Time of the Ruttings

Rutting was what it was called on the forum. That group had many of the original deer when the game started. Some had unique masks that the game does not give anymore. They sit on the hill by the graveyard of the ruins in October and November for many years. In front of the graveyard lies a flat area. There would be herds nearby. Two deer would come forward with the elder deer watching and they would have a wrestling match just like deer do out in the wild. Some how a winner was declared and you would pick a set of deer from the nearby herd. It went on for weeks. Eventually the deer were regrouped under the most winning deer leaders. For most of the year they would rest, play, and do things together. When the season came around again they would have the deer match again and change things up a bit. I do not know how you got in their group. I found the name on one of the forums that explained the rutting.

The Pranksters

A set of deer use to run around in a group in the forest, and if you were a single deer alone they would approach as if to fight like deer do. In the last minute as you reared up on your hooves the deer intentionally would fall backwards. They learned how to wriggle the deer on its back like it was rolling with laughter. Then the others that had surrounded you would do it too. They would keep doing it till you joined in the fun. If you chose not to and ran they would surround you again to convince you to have a belly laugh with them. Once you did you could join them in targeting any lone deer but they did not do it to you again.

The Ones Who Loved Deer Butt

A small group existed that loved the animation of the back end of the deer. One would sit and the rest would back up to their face and find all sorts of ways to wriggle their butt in front of the deer face. They would take turns. Some could fly and they would do it there too. One deer you smile but when 10 deer did that and it was coordinated, it was hypnotic.

Dancing Deer

There was a year where dancing deer was the theme. Long trains of dancing deer would happen and few times every deer there in the forest would dance. In the forum or here they would take a pic or count the number. It was a sight to behold. I do not know if someone coordinated the dance moments or what but with so many deer dancing you just joined in. As suddenly as it started in a few moments it would stop and then somehow start again.

Play with all the buttons. Find all the glitches. Repeat movements. See if others will join with you and create something similar. It is part of the joy of the Endless Forest.
