CSS - "Stealing" Codes?

shaku's picture
I'm curious if those who code their own layouts have a problem with others stealing from their source code~

I personally don't mind. I find it flattering when I come across pieces of code that I recognize as my own. I use "my own" very loosely, because it's almost impossible to come up with something completely unique. I use Google a lot~

But yeah, what are your thoughts on this?

LOL. Tracking. Don't care

LOL. Tracking.

Don't care either, for my part.

I'm fine with people taking

I'm fine with people taking anything they see on my pages so long as they change the colors or whatever or don't steal the ENTIRE thing (like every piece of code on the page; though I'd be fine if they stole all that and changed the colors). ♥ Seeing as I borrow from people too. |D

i don't mind either! though, most of my coding i get help from friends. like, a lot of help. ;n; <3
but really, i wouldn't mind. i don't believe it should be a big concern or issue, i think its pretty neat that we can all borrow and learn from each other to create awesome bios.
just as long as it's not...totally copying from the original haha.

adorable art by Tuoho! ♥

Likewise, people are free to

Likewise, people are free to use whatever they want from mine, they don't even have to credit me, though I would be flattered if they did. After all, for all I know they came up with the css themselves, and I'm always willing to code for people or give them any code they need~

It's the character, not the coding, right?

I spend lots of time figuring out new coding, it's fun to find new things for people to use, it wouldn't be fun if I didn't share~

lol, my codes are so

lol, my codes are so messy/primitive that I don't know who would want to try to steal them.
As long as the layout was not entirely the same (literally copy/paste EVERYTHING and just change the information or a couple colors), I really wouldn't care, though.
Having an identical layout, in my opinion, would create confusion on who plays whom - something I'm sure you're familiar with between Rook and Bishop, except that y'all intended for things to be that way.

Everything I got up is

Everything I got up is no-credit.
I barely have any "personal" CSS up that I really made for my use only. If that would be the case, the only thing I'd like were to get a heads up à la "hey I'd like to use that specific code" ((it's not much of a matter of codes as it is of layouts)), just for manners. I could care less about anything else.

Hmm I've tried once where

Hmm I've tried once where somebody used my css code... I looked at the bio, and not only the css was the complete same, the picture of the character resembled the bio of my deer as well. I must say, I got a bit surprised, and a little upset. I had worked on everything for a while, css as well as character, and I tried to hint the one using the css to admit it had used it without permission, and that way settle it without confronting the subject directly. But as there were no progress, I asked "Have you made it yourself" or something like that, the other answered "Yes, all by myself". That stung quite a lot. I got help, though, and the person took it down. I don't hold a grudge, just wanted to use an example.
So, result:

Sorry, but I usually prefer getting asked before lending other the exact code, since I use a lot of work on each css I do. Css inspirated by my own css is just alright, though~

Not really... I'm with you on

Not really... I'm with you on 'impossible to come up with something completely unique;. We're all using the same stuff to manipulate the base layout, so I don't really see much of a reason to not allow someone to view the source code and nab it. If not from them, then from someone who does allow it. So, trying to stake claim on something is pointless.

I can understand how some may not like it. Spending a lot of time on it, ect... their choice.

I can't even say my work is original enough to not let people use it... I didn't learn how to do any of the coding on TEFc without looking at other bios and tutorials. Admittedly, as you said, I too use google when I need to refresh my memory on something or go hunting for new codes to play with, like that hover code I posted some time back.

edit: LOL at the date. Here's my opinion anyways.
