Adventures in doll making (image heavy) Updated!

So. I was totally inspired by Mis' art dolls and after some research I decided to make my own! To try anyway. I've never done anything like this before, so there will be a lot of trial and error involved. Anyway, I'll be posting pictures when I make progress.

I started on the head today! Decided to make a little Eve.
So far so good but I don't have much experience with clay. Hoping it doesn't get destroyed when I go to bake it ;;

Update!
Took out her black bead eyes and replaced them with clay eyes. I didn't want to ruin anything by baking the beads.

Also added fur texture over the whole head.

Last I added a little rim with holes to use later when connecting the head to the fur body.


She just came out of the oven; letting her cool on the counter as I type this. I hope I baked her long enough. I left her in for 20 minutes at 275 degrees, but the color of the sculpey hasn't changed much. Waiting until she's cool to make any decisions on it though.

275 farenheit or celcius? I'm

275 farenheit or celcius? I'm assuming Farenheit, then that is too short XD She'll likely be hard though. There's many different ways to bake sculpey, but I think it's best to bake it for long on a low temperature. Well, low, around 250 farenheit. But I've read soo many different ways you'll just have to figure out what you think is best. Some burn the clay on purpose, made it a bit hard for me to sand though. That sculpt did come out very sturdy. The last one I've done was on a low temperature, for about three hours. Some people increase the temperature over the hours, some decrease it. Some leave it in the oven overnight to prevent cracks. Best idea is likely to google a few methods and try them out yourself. I haven't had much trouble baking so far, just with the last sculpt I had the wrong kind of material inside the clay to bulk it up.

I'd do a bit of google search! Likely she will be hard at what she is now too, and in any case if you were going to add more things then that's a good bake. You don't bake to finish when you're still adding things after all. I think you'll be fine though. But if you're unsure, it's no problem to bake it again.

Holy crap thank you for such a helpful comment, Mis! I did some googling as per your advice and decided I'll have to bake her again. She was hard, but not to my liking. I decided to put her in at 250 (yes, fahrenheit (: ) for a few more hours.
Guess I'll move on to sculpting her little hooves now!

Oh my God, wow these are incredible! I'm a huge fan of Mis' dolls myself so I can totally understand why you'd be inspired by them. Maybe if I was a better sculptor I'd give it a shot.. oh well T-T I can dream. For now I'm just gonna sit back and admire your work ♥ Super excited to see how Eve turns out. c:
