I've been here a while and have seen many different characters come and go in the forest. Quite a few appeal to me and just as many do not. So...
I was curious, what makes you love a character? Is it the way the creator portrays the character? Is it simply art skill that appeals? A talent for writing? Or is it as simple as they are purple and you just happen to really like purple?
With me personally its how
lol, Our opinions are of
-dances around- Well good. :]
There's a lot, maybe too much
One, is originality. It's true that total originality is near to impossible these days, since so many have already come up with the ideas. There is no true originality left in the world. Someone could make a character, and sure they may have a unique design, but that design didn't come from out of nowhere. People get their ideas from other people, seeing what they've done, observing, and watching them. What I like when it comes to originality, is appearance. But I don't like ridiculously complex character designs like some I have seen on here. I rather like plain designs, simple, yet so complex in a way. Be it the artist's drawing style, or how a writer describes them in a story, etc.. I love certain personalities too. I really just love what is different among most. The individuality. It's hard to see with some characters, and with others, it's written all over them.
I like characters that are
It is painful for me to see a flawed character created by someone who hates them.
And perfect characters are uninteresting to me whether they are loved or hated by their players. It is difficult for me to become entangled in their conflicts if they are eternally beautiful and kind and graceful because I am not those things. Occasional (or frequent) pettiness, stupidity, stubbornness, cowardice, malice, selfishness, self-loathing, laziness, and other such flaws give contrast to those moments of generosity or wisdom or sincere love.
I like to see some of the ugliness of life mixed in, so when a character has a moment of grace, I feel their triumph.
I don't strive to be the best, but instead I strive to do my best, and always give it my all every time.

Among other things, I like it
ex: The character once ate a mango that they didn't know was rotten. They haven't eaten a mango since.
This tells the reader that the character learns from mistakes, but sometimes is too careful. It's the sort of thing that happens in real life all the time.
When I was little, my parents read Sherlock Holmes stories to me (indeed, that's why I'm studying forensics and criminal science at college this year) and I took Holmes' ability to observe minute details to heart. Just like in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's masterpieces, it's the little details that matter the most.
Authenticity. I love
I think... it's about how well the player can feel their character's true emotion, in contrast to having a set manner of conduct that's always the same. Or something like that.
I love when a player can have
I had this huge, enormous,
Just know that I wholeheartedly agree with pretty much everything you have all said, as well as found some new insight on character creation that I really should keep in mind for the future. ^_^ It is nice to see what really appeals to folks on the whole about a character and just what makes them.
Originality coupled with a
