Totally Sane - Part 4

Her bounced around Quad, cackling evilly. "Can't tag me, mate!" The two-colored stag chuckled softly, his eyes upon her, his back against a pillar on the side of the Ruins. "I won't bother trying." He paused and sniffed the air. "But...I smell somebody coming who can."

Before the chocolate doe could react, the blur that was Pandemonium sent her tumbling to the ground. "Oi, you again?!", Her grunted. She disentangled her neck and stared into the eyeholes on Pan's mask. "Honestly, I think Tuna's gonna have to come out of hiding one day to rescue the rest of us from you!" She smiled good-naturedly. Pan grinned back. "What would you lumps do without me, eh? Sit around on your butts all day, collecting dust?" Scrambling upright, she crashed into the wall of the Ruins. "Finally found you guys, anyways. I wanted to ask Her something. Morning, Quaddypants."

"Got another crazy business scheme?"

"Course not. It's Thursday. I-"

A tremendous roar cut her off mid-sentence. The wiry doe glanced around, while Quad and Her exchanged looks. A huge doe, her body decaying and a skull atop her head, was bashing against the bars of the Cage. Ammy and Taiko were off some distance in front of her, chatting and ignoring her furious attempts to escape. Pan's expression changed to one of interest. She'd heard of the fabled Hunter, but had never seen her in person. Slowly, she stepped towards the cage. "Hun? You feeling a little off?"

A growl in response. The doe frowned. She didn't expect the doomed deer to understand her, but still, she was fascinated. A few paces off, Ammy noticed her approach, stood, and led Taiko over. "I wouldn't get too close," she murmured. "Poor thing. She's been stuck like that for years." Pan glanced over at them before her gaze returned to the ravaged creature. Taiko shivered. "She's not safe. Cursed to stay in there forever. If you let her out..."

He stopped, too nervous to continue, and the pair backed off. The Hunter roared in Pandemonium's face. Her wild eyes showed a hint of confusion. Why was this small deer not retreating in terror? She reared and threw herself against the Cage wall again, blood spurting from a tear in her shoulder. Pan frowned and, after a moment, walked off.

But inside her brain, it had registered. Death came to those in the Hunter's path. And the forest would tumble into glorious, wonderful, chaos.
