Interactions.

La's biography is good but it's also dense with information for the La enthusiast (I did not make up that phrase I swear). Think of this interaction blog as a sales pitch--why you should use me and La as a boredom killer and as a way to expand your character's knowledge and horizons.
The Character
La
A deer with a people face
Enjoys adventure or just hanging out, but nothing too rough
Decently intelligent and well educated, loves to inform others
Hobby is answering questions and solving mysteries
Loves fawns and actually pretty much everyone and everything who is nice
Has no problem being the backup character to your main character / sidekick to your superhero / Sancho Panza to your Don Quixote so long as she isn't ignored
Often misses the point and becomes distracted by other things; cannot see the forest for the trees
Knows several languages but only from text and never from practice, has a deer accent
Appropriate for all ages
Inspired by many of my role models (Mr. Rogers, Hellboy, my math teacher, etc.)
My only character so all of my focus is on her development

The Book
A sentient magical book, La's BFF
Doesn't communicate directly, just displays information when it wants
Okay it occasionally makes a sassy comment in the footnotes
Can teleport since deer don't have hands
Likes people who like to read
Flees water and fire
Please don't try to eat it
PLEASE
Not La
Tolerant of bad people, nor is she a pushover when it comes to standing up to jerks
Interested in seeking fights or danger
Artistically talented or skilled
Coordinated or good at athletic things beyond basic deer stuff
Looking for love or romance
Grimdark in any capacity
An emotionally tormented individual whose angst will overshadow a story
A magical rainbow one of a kind half-angel and half-demon
The chosen one who will have to perform a heroic sacrifice
The survivor of a tragic past a bloo bloo bloo

Glitch Skull
An in-setting explanation for server mishaps, bizarre occurrences, and glitches that La experiences
A poorly understood object haunting and pranking La rather often
Looks like a broken skull of a weird unknown animal accompanied by other unidentifiable bones
Casts spells sometimes, including "impossible" spells, but never convenient spells
Is kept in a burlap sack by La as punishment for being totally creepy and kind of a jerk
Has a story here, still unfolding.

The Stories
Got ideas for a story? I'd love to join. If you want to play but have no idea what to do, here are some good standbys:

Your character is a fawn that La mentors. La adores fawns and dreams of gathering them to teach them about mathematics, natural sciences, human history as it relates to The Forest, and theology (from an academic angle) as it relates to The Forest. She is emotionally stable and good-natured--very able to play the role of mentor and provide a point of reference in a young deer's life, especially if they haven't got parents.
Your character needs La for help seeking some kind of information. La has written a few things that would be the deer equivalent of scientific papers if deer read or cared about that stuff. La's knowledge of inane trivia and useful information is muddled but useable--she is never wanting for strange facts to spew. Maybe word of La's blathering has reached your character and they thought to ask her something. Good for a quick introductory interaction if you're looking to build contacts for your character or good as a start to a bigger story.
That Giant Tombstone. You probably know that one. What's buried there? It's enormous. Way bigger than you'd need for one person. La knows of at least one hidden room underneath The Ruins, and thinks there might be more. She's found that whacking her antlers against the stone on the top produces a suspiciously hollow sound, and on cold days, it feels warm to sit on. I have in mind a dungeon-delving type of adventure for this, reminiscent of D&D and other tabletop games. We could work out the end of the "dungeon" ahead of time, or you can leave it to me and I'll surprise you. I'd like this story to be related to La's running story regarding The Glitch Skull and this adventure would answer some of her questions. Eventually I would like to illustrate it and make it into a story thread.
Human World Exploration. La adores humans but has immense difficulty pretending to be one. Your character will have to supply the magic to get them out of The Forest. In The Human world they can perform some errand your character needs done, acquire some useful loot, make some human contacts, or just goof off and try not to get hit by cars like other deer.
Your suggestion. La's curiosity and general passiveness make her easy to bring on almost any quest. Seriously, if you just go, "Hey look!" she will come look.

The Player
     Alison
Been roleplaying most of my life, mostly in person but also on the internet
Likes proper grammar but prefers laconic writing to wordiness; McCarthy > Steinbeck
Polysyndedon and asyndeton are favorite things about writing
Currently a pretty srs writing person but also likes to draw stuff for fun
Quite often glued to the internet, easy to get hold of except for vacations
Really quite foul-mouthed, but La isn't. Will put a lid on it if you want
Utterly unable to detect sarcasm. Talk literal to me please

I am tracking and may want to do something with this. I feel like La and Seed could have great smartypants adventures.

YES. La thinks great things of Seed and would love to hang out with him more. I think that "Smartypants Adventures" would be a GREAT name for a children's TV show also.

I think "The Great Tombstone"

I think "The Great Tombstone" idea of yours might be a fun plot idea, if only because running a dungeon crawler for a pair of non-combat characters would certainly be a unique thing. They're perfectly ill-suited for action-adventure, XD

Yesss. I would look at as

Yesss. I would look at as being a lot like two low-level wizards without their equipment trying to run a dungeon together. It's just not gonna work by brute force but might with insight and care. It could work with a whole adventuring party of deer too, there are certainly enough characters out there to fill the traditional roles.

I don't have time to read through this all in detail (literally running out the door) but this is a track comment to remind myself to check it out when I return. I'd be super interested in a TEFc adventure RP! 8]

@Pelicann
Definitely. The book would like his sense of imagination and it can for sure lend itself out to him and follow him around. It's a good teacher, it pretty much raised La.

@Tera
Aww yeah TEF adventures~ I'm not super familiar with your characters but I imagine La would be interested in any and all of them. Seed and I are planning a DnD type dungeon run with our smartypants characters but since it's a dungeon run we might want a more complete "adventuring party" and if you have anyone you want to bring along you're more than welcome to join them.

@Seed
Hope you don't mind me inviting Tera along for the fun. More people more possibilities.
I was thinking that under the ruins there would be things related to the humans living there (hidden rooms with desks and books and all manner of things). If you have ideas you want to spring out of nowhere too feel free to keep those to yourself. I imagine that the bottom has some enormous sleeping thing that represents the server.

Hello Silver and Poppy~

@Seed I thought so! What does he normally write on? Strips of birch bark? So this will be a good way to get paper for Seed.

Tera, would you like to be our tank/bodyguard/person with some combat expertise?
Seed's picture

When he's using the nice pen

When he's using the nice pen Verve gave him, or, before that, an antler tine dipped in his berry-based ink mixture, he'll use sheet of birch bark, or particularly large leaves... But he's also been known to carve or scratch his poems into wood, the soil, or rocks, using his antlers or hooves. It's been my long-standing headcanon that the underside of the bridge where he sleeps is pretty scratched up from years of diary entries and poems, many of the glyphs gone green where the algae has grown into them. Being a poet in a forest is hard work.
Of course, as I have put this much thought into it, Seed has a poem on the topic. This predates his cool anklet-mounted pen, which is his favorite thing.

A scramble to get up the rocks to the top of the playground, and a heavy sneeze to get her antlers to go back to normal. Those initial noises startled the robins and sent them scattering into the air. La sighed and flopped down to the rock surface to rest. She knew if she held still, they'd come back to her. Someday she hoped they'd realize she was harmless.

((hello!)) The gemini bird

((hello!))

The gemini bird strolled between the grasses and the birch trees. Being certain that nobody was around, he let out a hearty yawn. Having just woken from a long nap in the warming sun, the deer now had to stretch his legs a bit, with the familiar song of the birds ringing above his head and sounding throughout the forest. His senses had not gained complete awareness yet, but entirely by chance ben managed to spot one of the elusive birds fluttering by. Having no plans, he decided to let himself be led by the avian and followed after the creature who was flying from one tree to another. It was a hide and seek game between the bird-deer and his smaller friend.

Birds were kin to him, yet not even ben himself was entirely certain why or how this connection came to be. In his appearance he was deer through and through and yet there was a deep knowledge, a primal instinct perhaps, that he too was a bird.

His companion had now led him towards the Playground, large rocks forming a structure for the deer to play and rest at, where the sudden startling noise of a flurry of wings caught his attention. He jerked his head upwards, towards the largest of the rocks where he spotted a familiar face - La. Ben gave a chuckle, so that's who must've startled the birds. Happy to see her, he bounded towards the large stones to greet her.

La's head picked up at the soft sounds of Ben's footsteps like she was a marionette. In the beginning she wasn't consciously aware of what she'd heard, but when she looked around and saw him, La smirked. It was the kind of coincidence one might think of as a cosmic joke, but one to be laughed with, never at.

"You know I came here to look for birds," La called down to Ben. Really, there was one bird in particular she was hoping to spot more than any other. It hadn't been Ben, but now that he was here she wanted him to stay. "I guess it makes a certain amount of sense to see you come bouncing over the hills."

It was impossible to not smile. "A fawn told me about a bird I haven't heard of before, and he said he'd seen it in The Forest! I ran up here to look and see if I could see it. It's called a snipe! The fawn said I'd know it when I saw it. You heard of it?"

(E; thought I'd leave a link in case you aren't familiar with the idea of a snipe hunt. I thought it would be a good (appropriately sillyfun) adventure for Ben and La.)

TLR: I'm alisonrobin13 there, but I'm on vacation at the moment so I'm barely on my laptop--don't be worried if I don't accept immediately.

"Birds!" Ben's whole body

"Birds!" Ben's whole body stood on alert at the word. (Bird is the word.) He took a leap and landed beside La on the rock she had been resting on. "How come I haven't heard of it?", he asked himself more than La as he wandered restlessly upon the large boulder. He pushed his legs off the stone only to land back on it with force, watching the small pebbles as they jumped away from his hooves.

"I thought I knew all the birds around here.", the bird-deer muttered. He felt like a fawn who had only just begun discovering the forest. The prospect of seeing a new species excited him. He stopped in his tracks for a moment, body tense, dead still, before suddenly bounding off again back towards La, coming towards a skidding halt right beside the doe.

"How d'you reckon we find it?", he asked, voice full of anticipation.

((Well now I know! I hadn't heard of it before.))
AlisonRobin's picture

"Me too," La told him. She

"Me too," La told him. She felt ineffectual and foolish, having missed an entire bird all her weeks of sitting and letting them land in her antlers. "But, this place is endless. Even if it was one bird per square mile, then it would be... infinity birds. Same goes for deer and trees and anything if you think about it."

Her ears swiveled precisely and quivered in the air, listening for the songs of any birds she didn't know. Birds that would need careful study, observation, documentation... research.

"The fawn I heard it from said it was really big," La said. She inhaled deeply so she could tell her story without taking any breaks: "I asked, 'are you sure you didn't see someone being a big dove or a big crow?' and he said he was sure and that the snipe was blue. I asked if he had maybe just seen an unusually big blue tit, and he said it didn't have the yellow belly and that it was waaay too big to be one of those anyway."

Out of breath, she inhaled again, then sighed. "I gotta see it."

Since it looks like our previous idea of gathering an adventure party to adventure lost all momentum...Should we just run that idea alone, or seek a new idea? Because I'd still like to do some RP with La.

I can't decide whether I want

I can't decide whether I want to throw Elias or Ryff at you. Both of them would want to learn about humans, but one would probably be silly and the other would be more interested in actually learning... Would you happen to have a preference?

Seeeeeeed I'm so sorry for being a terrible replier. We should do something though, I want them to talk.

TLR, it's up to you. La's got a serious side and a silly side in about equal parts, so I suspect that if you toss in Elias they will get distracted by something rather than get some learning done, but I generally think that even goofball play can be educational.
thelittleraven's picture

Gonna go ahead and base this

Gonna go ahead and base this on their in-forest interaction because wow I'm bad at starters. This is still a bad starter. Wowo.

---

Snow swirled around the does' resting place at the nape of the Idol, surrounded by deep hoofprints and gouged earth and dirty snow. Their play had concluded early, unfortunately. The skin at the striped doe's shoulder was taut, and the exposed flesh of a deep scar appeared quite irritated. As they sat, she turned her head and pressed her cheek into the old wound, attempting to warm it.

"Sorry for having to stop so soon. This old leg..." She tutted softly and looked to her new acquaintance, examining the luchador mask she wore. 'Old' felt like the right word to use and wrong simultaneously; she couldn't possibly have been much different in age than the black and white doe at her side. "Nice mask. I've not seen that one before... and I haven't gotten your name."
AlisonRobin's picture

"Sorry, I didn't mean to work

"Sorry, I didn't mean to work you so hard," La said, huffing and puffing at the snowy Hallow's Eve Eve air. Little frosty clouds kept escaping from her mouth, even after she settled into a spot full of poppies next to her playmate.

"I'm La," she said, smiling and nodding while her pictogram glowed to confirm her identity. "And thank you, this mask is new today. I met one of the gods." She couldn't help but brag--it was a recent and explosive experience for the doe.

We totally should! They are probably the two characters who would get along best if they ever had more than a passing acquaintance... I am a bit stuck on ideas, though, so I'll try and think of something.
