How many years has it been?

Has spent the last few months with little in the way of drama. Content to be bored most of the time, although she does at times feel quite lonely. As such, she has been happily reconnecting with Illrose and Carmine when she comes across them. In particular, surprised and incredibly grateful when first Illrose and then Carmine sought her out in the deep fog of October and stayed with her for a number of days until it passed; the mist bound her senses uncomfortably and left her on edge and feeling blind, but having a steady presence greatly eased that stress.

A little more melancholy now that the snow has arrived, often lost in thought. Not really a fan of the cold. Spending a little more time around Eraline's grave when she's on her own.

Aria moved slowly. It had been a while since she woke up and the morning sickness had subsided. She felt fine but was nervous about running, thinking it would make her sick again. Sniffing the air she caught the wonderful scent of her mother on the air and made her way in that direction. "Mother"she spoke softly once she was near,"It still hasn't gone away...in fact I feel worse every time I wake up but it goes away after an hour...or so"she said nuzzling her neck then settled down against her. The soft fur and warm body helping to calm her mind. She was quiet for a long moment and sighed.

Her ears flick in the direction of approaching steps, though she doesn't seem too concerned. Deer often pass by this section of the birch, after all, since it's so close to the hollow filled with hyacinths. The doe shifts her weight to lean against the tree she'd settled beside some time ago, enjoying the sunlight on her pelt and the view from the top of the hill.
Aria's call draws her attention away from the scenery, however, and Phai turns to peer at her daughter with a smile, though it fades as Ari presents her complaint. The brown-furred doe hugs Ari against her in her usual manner, tucking the smaller deer close with her chin. "I was hoping to have been able to speak to a friend, but I haven't seen her recently..." She knew someone else she could ask, but she really hated to bother the doe a second time in so short a span. Phai scowls slightly, pondering.

Aria sighed again,"Its

Aria sighed again,"Its alright mother...I just...you see the feeling goes away after a while but I am so scared to do anything that I use to for fear of it coming back" she said wrapping her head around her mothers, a small frown on her delicate face. "Others have said I may be pregnant and..I am starting to believe them"she said a bit softer. The doe was scared of that truth. She was young and not ready for such a burden, but she'd carry it if she had to.

Phai sighs heavily. It was something they'd have to face sooner or later, and the world certainly seemed hell-bent on making it sooner rather than later. "Take it easy, then. I'll ask and see if there's anything you can eat to make it better." A pause. "Ari..." She could hardly believe she'd have to say such things. Oh, the parenting life. "let's hope it's unwarranted, but you need to start thinking about what you want to do if there is a fawn if you really believe there might be." Turning her gaze skywards as she sets her thoughts in order, the doe goes on: "It's not easy. There can be a good number of dangers in the Forest, even though it's quiet most of the time. It's a constant job to keep up with, and it can be exhausting. Children aren't perfect, and they make mistakes. They can be overwhelmingly frustrating without meaning to or realizing it." She has to wonder, for a moment, how far Aria would go for a fawn she didn't want in the first place.

Aria listened carefully to her mother's words. She nodded hoping that there was something to calm the stomach churning. Then Phaios got that look in her eyes, that look that said 'I am not going to beat around the bush" Her eyes widened ever so slightly as she waited for the next few words. When she finished Aria sat in silence. She knew where her mother was going with this and she understood perfectly. "I know mother...but...if I am in fact pregnant then I will take what is given to me. Despite the nature of its birth I will not blame it for what the stag did to me and will be its mother" she said glancing at her still small stomach. She remained in that position for a time before looking back at Phaios,"Besides, I have wonderful friends and the best mother in the world to help me right?" she laughed softly.

"Of course, dove," she answers warmly. Well, that's settled for now, at least. She'd just have to hope the younger deer could stick with it if things truly turned that way. "You'll always have us. And who knows, maybe a proper stag one day, too," she chuckles softly, giving Aria a playful nudge.

Aria giggled when she was nudged and teased,"Mother don't tease me" she shoved lightly back. She had a few friends already but none of them were crushes yet. A small fear rose in her though she refused to show it in any form. Would a stag even want to be with her if she already had a fawn?

The doe feigns a wounded look. "But I'm serious! You're a lovely young lady. One day you'll wake up and there will be a paw-full of stags fighting over you. Just you wait." Phaios nods matter-of-factly. "Happened to me, once, so it can happen to anybody." Ohh, that was a long time ago, though. She doesn't mention that part.

The dainty doe felt a warm blush rise to her cheeks. "I don't know about that"she giggled,"I would not want them fighting over me...goodness that would be awful" she said with a horrified tone though her face was still smiling. When Phai said it had happened to her she looked at her mother and smiled wider,"Really! that must have been rather interesting to witness...um..mother there is something I've been meaning to um..ask you actually..concerning that topic" The doe looked away. She had always wanted to ask why Phai had no mate but was nervous to. She wasn't sure if it was a sensitive topic or not.

A grimace mixes with her smile. "Ahm... I suppose. Honestly I thought they were both stupid," she laughs. Her ears press forward as Ari begins to hem and haw over whatever question she seems to have, curiosity in her eyes. She could take a guess at a couple of things, but rather than swing and miss she prompts with a gentle "Yes?"

Aria poked at a blade of grass with a hoof and drug out her question longer than she should have,"Well..ever since you found me I never saw you with a mate..you are such a pretty doe ...I wondered why you didn't have one" she said looking away, hoping her question didn't cross the line or something of that sort.

"Mm. No, you haven't," she

"Mm. No, you haven't," she agrees, smiling a bit when Aria calls her 'pretty.' She'd never figure out why she heard that so often here, dull-colored as she was. "It's because I haven't sought one here. I came to the Forest from a place far away, where I hope someone waits for me. I haven't seen him in a long time. He's very handsome, though. His ears are tall and black, and his fur is shining white with blue spots and black legs. He's quiet and awkward but always means well." The smile stays, though it doesn't quite reach her eyes. "If I were to find my way back one day, I wouldn't want to have been unfaithful. Hm?"
OrinocoFlow's picture

Aria listened. She really

Aria listened. She really couldn't tell if the story sounded happy or not."He sounds handsome"she said smiling in return. To turn the question from the current uncomfortable topic to a new one(though did not think about how uncomfortable it would be to ask) "What was this other place you were from like?" She had heard others speak of other places and worlds and it always made her curious. Her shyness always kept her from asking.

"Not so different from here,

"Not so different from here, though there weren't so many deer and the deer that were there weren't like us. Thinking, I mean." She muses for a moment before continuing. "When I was created, the first world I knew was purple. It was normal to me, but not the way things were supposed to be. A strange little creature had changed everything. There was a river and a well and a lot of grass. Things changed sometimes, when our Mother felt it needed to. For a time there were mountains and a savannah, a swamp and snow and a great forest... It was quite lovely. The beings living there behaved much like the deer here do. We fought and loved and lived as well as we could. In that way it's very much like home here." A quiet chuckle. "There are even deer who look and act like folks I used to know."

Aria's eyes went wide like a fawn hearing the most amazing fact in the world,"ooohh that sounds so ...wonderful. " she could not think up a right word for the place. She would love to see it but the dainty doe's nerves of steal (sarcasm) would never let her.

Aria smiled and nuzzled her mother. All this talk of other worlds made her wonder if she ever came from somewhere else."Mother, do you think I had another life? I sometimes have dreams of things that do not exist here..though I never thought them important enough to mention"

"I suppose it's possible," she replies, letting Ari snuggle closer. "Sometimes dreams are just weird, though. But there seem to be many deer who did not start their lives in this forest. It took me a long time to remember everything. Maybe it'll come to you as you get older." Her head tilts to one side. "What sort of things do you dream about?"
OrinocoFlow's picture

Aria agreed with her mother.

Aria agreed with her mother. Dreams can be odd but these were just too strange to be 'just dreams'. "Thats the thing...it..is at first colorful. I smell flowers and see them outside of a..well I am not sure what it is..but I am inside something. Light is coming in on all sides. I look weird...no fur...no hooves I have strange legs underneath a very poofy and odd feeling pelt of some sort. The only fur I have is on my head and it goes all around me...I am still very white though." she began as she recalled her dreams," I see lovely shiny things. A...small wolf...though I am not afraid of it. Then after a while everything goes black. But after that I hear music..I feel soft things, rough things... then it goes black completely..and I wake up" she said looking to the ground then her mother with a confused look.

I believe it depends on if they have a past they can so readily call to their attention or even some other aspects of their personal beliefs. Personally speaking Re is the god I look to. Yet, I am indebted to Athena and the Twins for allowing me here." he answered softly, knowing he couldn't forget them. "Re? I haven't heard that name before." Phai chuckles quietly. "It was much simpler when I only had three to worry after, and the occasional feuding god who dared to set foot among us. There seem to be a lot of deer here who remember something before the Forest, though, and bring their own gods. It's interesting. I never much thought about what lay beyond home before I was brought here." The doe's tall ears press forward as curiosity gets the best of her. "What are Re and Athena like?"

The doe's brow furrows as the nationalities wash over her head. What's a Greek? They spring up again, however, at the second name. "Egyptians... Like Egypt? The sandy place?" Eyes round with wonder, she reconsiders the owl-deer beside her. Okay, Ari's little friend can have a brownie point. But just one. "I met a deer who said something about it. He said he was a banished god. His name was Heth. I haven't seen him for a very long time, though. But he said that Anubis lives there... Our Great-Grandfather created a land just for us, so I'd never heard of Egypt until that." The doe cocks her head to the side again, struggling not to bombard Akhen with questions. "But you know it? And Re.. Re is a god of Egypt, too?"

The stag nodded, understanding about half of what the doe said, "Yes, Re is the God of all. He created Man and other beasts of the world. Anubis is the god of the dead. He watched over those past and gave us the ability to embalm our dead. There are others too, many different gods and goddesses that all serve a different purpose. "We tell a very different story," Phaios muses quietly. "Anubis created a daughter in his image - our grandmother. When she died, our mother was born and Anubis built a safe-haven for her, where we were created." God of the dead? Huh. Well, it wasn't so far off, in some ways.
"Heth... I had to take at his word. It's difficult to prove much of anything that exists outside this place. But he did seem to know things." Her shoulders roll into a shrug. "With giant rabbits running around... Few things seem to surprise me any more." It was always the rabbits. Phai thinks for a moment before going on. "What is man? And in-balm?"
