Spring Festival items (CLOSED)

Fireflies lead the way as you travel through the dimly lit Forest. It had been growing steadily less and less cold, and your mind has been on life, mostly on the lives already established in the Forest and all of the new lives brought into it, whether they were birthed or magically came to be. You think suddenly on the lives that have passed recently and long ago, but you shake it off. There is a feeling of warmth and gentle festivity in the air.

Your glowing companions lead you to the Oak where a large golden sphinx of an indiscernible predatory species (big cat? some kind of giant canine?) lays next to a large leather backpack and an array of goods neatly strewn about. A massive paw and hair obscures what looks to be a human face with red and white paint marks, but you have a feeling that if you could see their face it would no doubt be pleasant. There is a large piece of thick hand-made paper folded horizontally so that it can be propped upright next to them. There's something written on it. As you peer over, you find yourself disappointed that it's in a language that you could never read, but--quick as a child's wish--the letters have rearranged so that you can comprehend the meaning, whether that be conceptually, textually, or pictorially. You wonder a moment about what kind of magic could be in this simple paper before reading curiously.

Quote:
Please feel free to take an item or items of your choosing, no trading or compensation necessary. Take what you want, even if I am asleep or away. Enjoy spring!

It's signed with what you might imagine would be the sphinx's name, but for some reason you cannot understand it. Anyways.. the prospect of free items is very tempting, indeed! You can't help but look over the items laid out before you, but what will you choose?

The items are...
Dried cinnamon sticks (x)
Died and colored leather pouch necklaces, in your choice of color and cord length (x)
Magically preserved passion fruit flowers, feel free to choose a color and design (x)
Peeled sugarcane, for chewing (x)
Peeled sugarcane, for chewing (x)
Unmarked packets with an assortment of 12 mystery seeds, you can decide what they are but I will call the Forest police if they grow drugs (but honestly, please don't..)
A dried blend of rose hips, chamomile, and nettle leaves. A very gentle smelling potpourri or suitable as a tea!

(more to come, maybe!!)

Just to be clear, your character can either visit my character at the Oak in-Forest, or you can post here about them selecting their item(s), or you can just add it to their inventory, no interaction or visiting necessary. It's really whatever you want. Also, I won't limit a character from taking a hilarious amount of any item because they're ~*MAGIC*~ and their numbers will be automatically replenished.
I didn't have time to make this fancier due to work issues and life outside of TEF going on. Please note, though, that this blog will eventually be "closed" at an indeterminate date/SOON idk, so don't be shy to grab free stuff while you can!

Edit:

It doesn't take much for little Laurel to get distracted from whatever she happens to be doing - in this case, hopping about and chasing after fireflies - but a giant golden sphinx is more than a little interesting, and she's off to inspect it in a heartbeat. The paper is regarded with curiosity, but ultimately ignored as she skips around the beast with little squeals of delight; it's a while before she even notices his wares. When she does, however, she inspects them carefully and peers up at the stranger with a suddenly shy smile. Presents? Laurel loves presents.

She selects a pouch and a passion flower which she tucks behind one ear - both red, of course! - and bounces over to snuggle against the creature before skipping merrily away. She pauses, though, thinks twice, and darts back for a stick of sugar cane. One more hug for the sphinx, and she's off.

[Love this~]

scoot scoot!

edit: Strega approached the Sphinx cautiously, even with the note and his personable aura she had her doubts. She chose a few preserved passion flowers that had multiple different colors, and a broken bit of sugarcane, perhaps to share with someone (or just chew on her own because num!). With a small curtsy she trotted off, carrying her new favorite ornaments happily on the side of her mask, and the sugarcane between her teeth.

edit#2: ((what if she legit just nabbed like a ton of flowers, and then had no idea what to do with them so she just put them on people???))
((i can see this happening im so done oml -shes gonna share the flowers.))

Anybody can literally take a ridiculous amount of stuff and said item would be replenished (eventually). She could make a throne out of flowers if she wanted!

Prompted by his

Prompted by his granddaughter's insistence, the old demon had to trek his way over to the old oak for the second time that day. In his previous visit, he had noticed the Sphynx, yet left the magic paper alone. When he brought the creature's existence up to his family at the ruins, it was only natural that the youngest of them wanted to see the Sphynx herself. Upon reaching the old oak, Chruthú broke from her grandfather's side to examine the golden creature, then the paper and bag at his side. She squinted at the paper a moment before the magic rearranged the text, then smiled broadly once the message became clear.

Chruthú selects three pouch necklaces and around 30 cinnamon sticks, which she splits up and puts into the necklaces before thanking the Sphinx.

The red blur in this deep

The red blur in this deep blue night just happened to pass by the Old Oak, avoiding it, as usual. But this time, small, flying stars - what others called fireflies - oddly seemed to want to shepherd Vanilliana in the direction of the large tree, which sang its familiar eerie song she already heard from afar. The red one furrowed the small caterpillars on her forehead and pursed her lips. The Oak was just towering there in the distance, meancing to the small creature. But this time, as she inspected the whole being of the tree, she noticed an oddity; What is a golden spot doing in the roots of the Oak?

It was her curiosity that led her way to the tree. As she approached, the picture became clear: A large creature of unknown origins, with a sign beside it and goods scattered around it. From quite a distance, Vani scraped the ground with her hooves. It was tempting to go closer, but her fear of the Oak rooted her into the ground.
After a minute of vacillating between heading there and staying put, she leaned forward and moved to the creature with tense, but consistent steps. Her strategy was not to focus on the Oak.
Now that her attention was on the stranger, changing inscription on the sign grasped her gaze. It morphed into strange symbols. A number of them looked out of this world, and some others seemed to represent objects. Vaniliana blinked and turned towards the goods.

"How pleasant." She said quietly with a small smile on her face. The doe switched her gaze onto the golden stranger. The creature was sleeping, unfortunately, so her words likely weren't heard. It was a varying array of items, indeed. Some she hasn't even seen before, and some familiar, including the cinnamon stick, the sugar cane and the dried flowers.

What grasped her desire were the leather pouches though. She let out a small gasp and inspected the items a little more closely. They were in different sizes, colors and lengths. She nudged one of them, to feel its texture. A pouch would indeed help her out, since all that there is to her use as containers are leaves - which aren't known to be too reliable or lasting - and her mask, which was ridiculously small. She quickly snagged two of them of her desired size and color and after a deep bow to the stranger, trotted away.

After a few minutes, Vani returned with a pretty variety of pebbles. They were carried in her new pouch. She poured the arrangement of the pebbles beside the creature, hoping that it'll find as much pleasure in them as she found in her new container. Then, she decided it was time to leave. She couldn't help herself from taking one sugar cane though before departing.

Chruthú works the straps for

Chruthú works the straps for the three chosen leather pouches over her neck before returning to her Grandfather. Instead of immediately heading home, she quickly slips behind him and starts borderline futilely pushing the enormous bull toward the bag, insisting he pick something out too.

With the newly appeared items noticed, Darkweaver considers the immediate use of the items. As the groundskeeper of the ruins, landscaping was generally one of his spring tasks. He grabs a mouthful of bags containing seeds, which he could plant to liven up the ruins for the incoming spring and summer seasons. The scent of herbs also catches his attention. Having no other means to carry the herbs, he takes one fairly large brown leather bag necklace and places an assortment of herbs into it. These would make an excellent gift for his eldest son, who always seemed to be running out of herbs when practicing his necromancy. The old one bows gratefully to the Sphinx before departing with Chruthú.

roo ran.... it was as close

roo ran.... it was as close to flying as he could get & it helped him feel a little more connected to those of the air. as he forgot about where he was he leapt & circled & could hear his mother's voice *silly roo - you can't fly without wings!* he stopped & hung his head. the old oak called to him & he trotted thru the forest trying to hide from any he saw.

the last time he had seen his mother she was perched in an old oak in the grove where he was born - her wings neatly folded against her sides. he ran around kicking up his heels & leaping - pretending to fly. the sky darkened & the temperature rapidly dropped. he stopped. the wind picked up & the last thing he remembered was the sudden silence.

he didn't want to remember!

as he approached the old oak where he had awoke from his first life he noticed a new creature. he stopped & sniffed the air. there was no feeling or scent of danger & he tentatively moved forward. the creature was asleep. strangely not afraid - roo's curiosity brought him closer. he noticed an old paper beside the creature & watched as the letters danced across the surface until they settled in a way he could read them. he had often seen deer & other creatures in this new forest wearing adornments but quickly passed by the pouches. he snuffled the cinnamon sticks & passed them over too. he noticed small packets & gently nudged one with his beak.

seeds! roo's heart soared! seeds! he carefully picked up the package & bowed to the still sleeping creature. it didn't seem enough thanks so he gently touched the creature & whispered the blessing he remembered from when he was just a wee one.

he carefully hid the package of seeds & returned to the old oak. the creature still hadn't moved. he looked at the items again. he remembered the spring gifting ritual from the elders in his first life & wondered if this creature would mind if he took a few of the cinnamon sticks & sugarcane to hide around the forest... he knew there were others like him - nervous to be around others - and decided to hide a few gifts.

roo hoped they would be found by the shy - or those who were afraid & know they weren't alone. this forest could be terrifying at times for roo - but it was slowly becoming home...

Really cool idea! Might have

Really cool idea! Might have a character/characters of mine approach and grab something.

Edit:
Two characters, Tristan and Melanie. Anyone is welcome to interact with them btw!

Being led by the fireflies to the sphinx, Tristan eyed the 'stand' with all the goods. Reading the note, he nodded to it. As he could take all the sweet time he needed, the stag plopped down next to the golden creature to keep them some silent company (or maybe more looking for some silent company). While he was observing and greeting the arriving clients, he munched on a sugarcane. After a longer sit he finally stood up to go somewhere else. Only when he walked away few steps, the male looked back at the passion fruit flowers. He actually had no idea how they were called but eventually decided to pick one smaller flower, grey and violet. He threw a ”Thanks!” the sphinx's way before leaving the Old Oak for good.

”That's really generous.” Melanie wasn't sure if the sphinx could hear her or not but she said aloud what she thought. ”So many nice things...I could keep my stone in that pouch...ah, no I can't...I will just take this packet of seeds...for my friend...she has been taking care of plants...really nice pouch...” Reading the note over and over, the doe quickly grabbed a yellow pouch. ”I will use it to carry the packet! I'm sorry!” And with the packet of seeds in the pouch she ran away.

A shadow lurked around the Oak, shy but curious it moved quickly from tree to tree to get closer.
Long it stared towards the Entrance of the Old Tree before the curiousity won. Slowly it creeped closer, out of the Shadows and in the Moonlight. A Fawn, just some days old, approached the Sphinx, shy but steady. With some playful hops she finally stops right before the Sphinx. With a daring smile she waits but soon lost interest as the Sphinx doesnt move. It was then as her eyes fell on the Items at her feet, curious she poked them, which seems to be ok with the Sphinx as she did not speak nor move. Naughty and Daring she picked a brown leather pouch up to see what happens, but once again the Sphinx did nothing. Limaria stuffed some dried cinnamon stick in the Pouch, always eyeing the Sphinx, before putting the Necklace around her Neck. Stuffing a peeled sugarcane in her mouth and put a violet magically preserved passion fruit flower on her necklace, which did take longer then she wished for since hooves are not that great for knots. Chewing on the Sugarcane she gave the Sphinx a nuzzle and was almost on the way home as she turned around again. Grinning she approached again and took a second Pouch but now a blue one, which she filled with some sugarcanes. The second one wasnt for her, even when she is selfish but at that moment she tought of her brother.
More then Happy she gave once again a nuzzle to the Sphinx before heading home in the Night.

Jetta stopped by, reading the Letter she smiled at the Sphinx shortly before saying "Thank you so much". Her voice echoed a bit in the Oak and she gave the Sphinx a bow before she took a black pouch and some sugarcane and some cinnamon sticks for her cubs. With a wide smile she departed.

For several hours Edwin had

For several hours Edwin had sat, silently observing the deer who came and went from a distance with a glour on his face and his ears pressed back. He didn't know the context of this ritual, but the promise of sweet food tempted him. Shaking himself off, he rose from his spot in the forest and crept closer to the Old Oak.

He hesitated for a moment upon reaching the creature slumbering below the tree. It was a strange being, but no stranger than the ones he had met so far--whether he liked it or not, he was going to have to get used to such things. A sense of nostalgia hit him as he read the note, soon followed by defensiveness: he had no need for charity did he?

His eyes scanned the trinkets below, then the slumbering creature, then finally the surrounding forest. Seeing the coast was clear, he debated with himself over whether he should listen to his pride or his desire. His hunger for decent tasting food soon won out, and with the precision and fluidity of a thief, he bowed his head, grabbed a leather pouch, and gathered a selection of cinnamon, sugar cane, and tea leaves, the scent of which evoked a longing he couldn't hope to explain.

He pulled the pouch shut and twirled it around his right antler, causing the red forest flowers that had hung there before to fall and scatter, threatening to wake the beast of the tree. Adrenaline rising, Edwin darted away from the Old Oak, sucking on one of the sweet sugar cane sticks he had claimed for himself. He slowed and stopped for a moment, looking back at the tree. He wrestled with the thought of finding some way to thank this creature; he hadn't realized until now that the denizens of this forest, though savage in his eyes, could still be capable of generosity.

No, he couldn't start getting attached to the beings of this place; he had to find a way back to his own forest and be with his own people. The last thing he needed was to get distracted by sentiment, he decided. Steeling himself, he turned away and ran deeper into the night, cherishing the familiar scents that wafted from the pouch.

Ooh, Nice! Echis surely likes

Ooh, Nice! Echis surely likes pretty things.

While seeking for a new place to nap Echis strolled past the large oak, she was deep in thought and almost didn't notice the large golden creature sitting next to it. As she carefully walked closer she could see some items next to him and a piece of paper with some odd symbols. As she cocked her head to the side the symbols suddenly changed into a language she could read, interest now piqued she examined the Items and picked a nice teal colored pouch and some seeds. Maybe she could scatter them around the pond she pondered, that would look nice she decided then with a small nod.
Also picking up a sugarcane to nibble on her walk and a gorgeous flower for her antlers she bowed to the golden creature. Whispering ''Thank you'' under her breath.
She then trotted away with a small spring in her step to find a new place to nap or maybe a fawn to play with, happy with the new items she acquired.

The weather had started to

The weather had started to gradually warm. It was time for the "foster" herd she'd adopted herself into to move north again; to the familiar spring stomping grounds that she'd known for.. It must have been a couple years at the very least. Her body showed no indication of aging after having found herself out of the protective Forest and the Gods' light, but she knew that her own light had dimmed many seasons ago.

The herd had bedded down for the evening. Another long march awaited them in the morning. A small ways away, separated from the group, a small doe looked on. She had come to the realization that no predator wanted her, though she could hardly fathom why. It must be the same reason that she never felt apart of the herd. It must be. She didn't belong to these woods and every being seemed to know that something wasn't quite right with her. The small herd tolerated her presence, but that was probably because predators seemed wary of her, too. Perhaps she offered a small amount of protection that outweighed the risk of having an anomaly among their numbers. Regardless, she slept alone, just as she.. always had.

She welcomed the cool breeze that whipped past her, granting herself denial that the coldness she felt came from within. But what's this? A firefly? It's much too early for them to be out so soon.. Another.. A string of fireflies wafted on the wind between the herd and herself, as if a trickling stream of illuminated dust moats meant to separate her even further from what she clung to. No, there is an end to them, she thought, as she watched the procession float on... and then circle back. !!! Memories of fields of bright purple flowers clawed their way into the doe's undefended mind. Fireflies...

She gathered her legs her beneath her and steeled herself for what could only be disappointment. The bright insects led her to a large stand of fir trees, larger than she'd seen before, which is funny because she swore that this direction is familiar? Her guiding lights disappeared beneath the boughs of what must be the largest tree she had ever- No.. Not quite the largest... Having bent to her knees, the small doe awkwardly made her way towards the trunk, beneath the lowest hanging branches, head shielded away from the needles.

When she lifted her gaze to what this small firefly-chase had led her to, her heart gave a very painful squeeze. No wonder she had such an easy time getting under the tree's trick skirt- there was a large hole, a hollow, a bedded down pile of pine needles within the tree itself. And a small piece of Paper? and some items. The doe nearly turned to bolt, fearing her sanity had finally left her behind, but the paper changed. The ink on the..note- it was a note, a message.to her?- kept morphing between a language she had known and one she now had, before settling, if only briefly, on the flowing composition of symbols.

A wave of.. familiarity, then disbelief, followed by a dire longing and the barest of hopes. It all crashed into her consciousness and she was helpless to stop the tears from flowing. Her mind is a crowded mess of emotions as she rereads the words in front of her, before hastily grabbing the largest bag in the pile It must be meant for someth..someone much larger.. and stuffs in full of the other items, afraid it all may disappear or that she may be dreaming. Sugar cane, cinnamon, flowers, there went a couple small pouches, and as much potpourri and packets as she could scrape into the biggest pouch.

This scent! I know this scent! She didn't mean the powerful combined scent of her bag's contents, oh no. This smell was only ever a memory and if her heart would stop racing and her tears would kindly stop blurring her vision, she could probably hear the massive tree hum it's eerie song and see light through the cracks in its walls. But.. No.. The sound, the sound was a thumping and thrumming of her quickened pulse, and the light was the remaining fireflies watching her.

Blinking back the wetness in her eyes, the little doe curled protectively around the bag and scattered remains of the pretty piles, and read and reread the beautiful piece of tear-stained-paper- no, the magic- before her until the fireflies retired and her eyelids hung low as the adrenaline left her. She drifted to a restless sleep on a bed of dried needles in the hollow of an ancient fir tree.

There. Did it. Done. I can stop looking at the rough rough draft now.

Magic reaches far, especially to those in need of it.

Z'ress walks on by the big oak, stops short, and walks backwards to peer inside. Seeing the items, and after figuring things out after moments of confusion, decided to take just one thing. A burgundy passion flower. She manages to tuck it into her crown of feathers and mutters a small thanks, moving on slowly feeling as if she had stolen it. Looked back for a moment, then shook her head and moved on to be hidden by the shadows again.

Calida was out for a very slow waddle walk when she came across the scene. Wincing with the sharp kicks of baby hooves, looked over the lovely sphynx's wares. Seeing the peeled sugarcane, decided to take a few to try to keep her sugar levels up. Being the kind to not take without giving, still left behind a feather of hers' as a thanks. It glows with warm magic.

Raisa, the sassy little drunk she is, skipped on in to see what was going on. She took a pouch, and in it took some sugar cane, dry blend, and mystery seeds, hoping they would do some good in making new flavors of wine.
