A dark veined leaf fluttered end over end, the sides flashing white in the sunlight. It came to rest a few feet away from where the gray buck stood, his chocolate gaze having followed its progress to the end without much interest. Leaves always fell in this place. Didn’t seem to matter the season, they fell. He had long since stopped trying to make sense of it, just lumped everything that defied the logic he had come to understand as nothing more than forest magic.

Around him the tall grasses waved idly in the weak breeze and more leaves fluttered down from the tall, silent birches placed sporadically about him. His chocolate gaze shifted to scan the grasses, but found them as silent as always. For him they were tall, at points reaching his withers, but for most of the things in the forest that would be happy to eat him, they were too short to be concealing. He furthered their disadvantage by placing himself and the fawn on top of one of the small knolls that rolled under the blanket of wheat grass. From there he could see where the terrain transitioned into the First Forest, and could spot anything approaching.

Glancing toward the fawn bundled up in a fur blanket; he smiled and continued to scan. It was quiet though, peaceful. That time right before most awoke and set to their daily routines. The crippled gray slowly wheeled about; limping over to the opposite side of the little spot he picked to watch the rolling grasses. He paused only to give the fawn the faintest of kisses as he passed the little sleeping bundle by.

A tiny mouth opened and yawned after Zash had kissed him. Little babbles left him and he let out a soft sob. Being awake was not fun for him yet. The air was slightly cool and he snuggled down into the warmth of the blanket then rubbed his face against the grey's soft coat babbling softly as he did so. The world was so big to him. He'd been alive for just a short time but already he'd forgotten his horrible mother. The only one he knew and loved was Zash and as far as he was concerned Zash was all there was. This made him startle quite easily when any others came by such as others of Zash's friends and family.

The young bongo had noticed

The young bongo had noticed the a while back, but due to her wary nature; was keeping her distance. She'd learned rather quickly that looks are very deceiving in this place. She's quite adept and walking silently in the forest. Keep quiet and stay out of sight. A good plan when you are alone and defenseless. She's not as small as she used to be, though. A tad harder for her to hide when you get bigger. When the forest is not as dense as the ones you are used to. The little one had her questioning. Maybe there was milk? She is older, sure, but cannot keep larger quantities of grass down yet. She'd never been so hungry before. She sighs softly and drops herself low to the ground. Maybe she will just try to sleep the pain away; like usual.

The buck shot a smile in the direction of the fawn, but the smile slipped off his face. His head jerked around, swaying slightly on his hooves. He had definitely heard something that time. Had to have. His chocolate gaze scanned the countless blades of grass, letting the minutes tick by until he finally caught sight of something reddish brown amongst the gold and brown. Zash's first thought was a predator- that was until he tipped his head a little and realized whatever it was, was resting and not in a crouch. Didn't mean it wasn't a predator, just meant it wasn't hunting Basil. Or himself. He slowly picked his way closer, angling himself so he could peer through the grasses to look at the face. He kept a good several feet between them and himself, feeling himself relax a little though when he saw the face. It-she?- didn't look like a monster hell bent on destroying innocent lives. He shot a glance behind him toward the little fawn bundle, but returned his attention to the little white striped, reddish brown deer. "Hello there..."

Basil whimpered nervously

Basil whimpered nervously when Zash moved away. He could see him but the fact he was no where near his body made the tiny fawn frightened. He tried hard to stand but he wobbled and collapsed before making any progress at all. When Zash didn't respond to his whimpers he began to cry, little tears pooling in his eyes and spilling over like waterfalls.

She flattens herself to the

She flattens herself to the ground as the stranger approaches. She hopes they aren't mad or anything. She squeaks slightly as Zash speaks. Oh, they talk! Oh... Sadly, she has a speech issue and really can't communicate well. She nods her head at the stranger, but keeps low. No sudden moves, now. She lifts her head more as the little one starts crying. She didn't mean to take your big thing away. Her face turns to a saddened look and she lowers her ears.

The fawn crying immediately

The fawn crying immediately drew his attention back to Basil, not before he caught the fawn's sad look.
"Oh, no no, it's okay. There's no need to be sad too." he murmured, slowly starting to backtrack to the wailing little fawn. "Do you want to come sit with us?" He tipped his head at the question, before shifting his attention to nuzzle Basil's head and murmur reassurance.

He sniffled softly but with Zash near him again he immediately stopped his crying and turned his bright eyes to the other in their presence. A mix of baby babels and mouth bubbles followed as he kept staring at her , wondering who and what she was.

Her face lights up as he

Her face lights up as he offers her a place by them. She doesn't know many in the forest and feels very anxious being alone so much. She quickly nods again. Yes, please! Please... Runs through her head; so hopeful for friendly faces. She slowly stands up and stares at the older one, ears perked.

Zash smiled, though who it was directed at wasn't known. So this one was just a child too then- at least, the face suggested child. She was a very big child if that was the case, but then again, those giants that roamed around this place had to grow somehow. He just had never seen one as a fawn. She could also just look larger than normal because of how small Basil was. At her enthusiastic nodding he couldn't help but chuckle, "Well come on then! Come sit. I'm Zash and this little guy is Basil. Do you have a name?"

Basil stared wide eyed at the other fawn and babbled. With Zash near he wasn't afraid of anyone, in fact he was very curious and liked her colors very much. (short DX)

She isn't a giant, but a large antelope. A docile species. She nods once again and blinks at the much younger one. So little. She doesn't remember being that small at all. She tilts her head at his question. Time to try and talk. "'m Seyu... " Sethunya peeps out at him and gives a faint smile to Basil.

"Seyu?" He paused to look at her, seeking reassurance that he didn't butcher the name, before slowly settling down beside the babbling little one. Oh, so she was still very little, just big compared to the teeny fawn next to him. Hmm...then who were her parents? Who's to say she was even born in the forest anyhow...
"That's a lovely name. Have you been in this place long?" He prompted, glancing at her again before gently pulling the blanket back from covering Basil's little legs and hooves. In a soft tone he added,"He can't quite walk yet, but he's been trying to get there."

Basil looked with wide eyes

Basil looked with wide eyes at Seyu before erupting into giggled and his small legs began to flail about. He liked smiles very much and hers was very pretty. After his giggle fit the tiny one returned to blowing mouth bubbles and watching small insects that crept by and occasionally put one on papa zash's legs.

She shakes her head at Zash's

She shakes her head at Zash's first question. She smiles more as Basil giggles and spazzes. Aw what a cutie. Seyu wasn't her actual name, but it's the best she could do with it verbally. She adjusts her scarred legs before sitting near them. Sethunya's ears flick about, listening for any predators. She's well enough to run now and her legs are a bit longer.

Her simple nod made the buck

Her simple nod made the buck go quiet, smiling at Basil's antics and resting in the sunlight. She either didn't talk much, or didn't know enough words to get her point across. That was okay. He was used to silent company.
Allowing the minutes to tick by, Zash "You've been here most of the day, haven't you? I feel like I saw you earlier...or...goodness I hope that was you. Did you want something?" he shot the little one a look, studying her for a long moment. The only things he had to offer was companionship, a blanket and the supply of milk he kept on hand for the little one. Was she weaned yet? He wished he knew more about fawns, but really he had no idea just by looking at them. He glanced toward the bottles of goat milk he had picked up outside of the forest. Then to the fawn and then back again. Each glance was his own attempt at convincing himself it wasn't the most far off guess in the world. Would it be an insult to mention it? His own daughter would have probably thrown a fit if he had mistaken her for not being a big girl. But Seyu didn't seem the most outspoken or stubborn individual he had met...
Regardless he withheld the question for the moment, waiting for her response before offering anything. Maybe she was just lonely. He could understand that. He could understand that very well.

Basil looked between the two,

Basil looked between the two, entirely ignorant to the words going between them. All he knew was there was another big thing there and they were nice. They smelled nice too. Soft babbles and coos left him and he bat playfully at a blade of grass before rolling on his side and complaining when he couldn't get back up.

Sethunya isn't entirely

Sethunya isn't entirely weaned, no. It was a frustration to her. She often cried about her hurting tummy. Crying often attracts predator so she'd have to force herself to stop every time. " Yau. Vee heeoowah. " She struggles to get the words out. It's fine in her head, but not when it comes out of her mouth. " Wan Cuwas. Yuee neece? " She mutters out, lowering her ears at the butchered words. She looks most apologetic, but it quickly turns to concern as the smaller one flopped over. " Hmmn ooosey? Ooosey "

Oh poor little thing, she

Oh poor little thing, she couldn’t speak well. Here he was trying to make her. Turning his good ear to her, Zash nodded attentively all the while trying to make sense of her words. It took him a long moment of running it through his head before it slowly started to click. Slowly. At least, one or two words out of her sentences made sense.
Us nice?” he echoed, slowly getting up to scoot around a flopped over Basil and smoothly help to right him, before settling at the side of him and using a foreleg to keep him propped up. “Yes, we’re nice. You don’t have to be afraid of us, Seyu. We won’t hurt you.” Giving the tiny black fawn a nuzzle, he added, “Unless you’re reaaalllyyyy afraid of giggles. Then this little guy might be a bit scary.” The gray buck shot her a playful smile.

Basil was confused as to

Basil was confused as to Zash's action till he was sitting up. He pout a little at his new possition but soon found himself engrossed in a tiny beetle crawling by. A surprised bleat escaped when Zash nuzzled him and which was followed by a well timed giggle to follow Zash's comment. His eyes followed where Zash was looking back to the other one. Taking a moment he took on a very serious expression and slowly, and quite shakily, pushed his butt in the air. It wobbled and only stayed up due to how close he was to Zash. Then, with a bit of work he got up on his front legs too. He wobbled there looking at the other and took one step before nothing but legs folded beneath him and became a tangled mess. Silence then a soft whine and sob followed as he shifted to hide his face in Zash's fur.

She give an enthusiastic nod

She give an enthusiastic nod at Zash and giggles shortly after Basil does. It's contagious oh noooo. She notices the small one trying to get up and failing. She flattens her ears backs and sits low to the ground. Seyu begins a army crawl to them with her head on the ground. Maybe they wanted a closer look at her? she isn't sure. She'll stay at Basil's level for now.

Zash glanced toward Seyu

Zash glanced toward Seyu moving closer, but the little black and blue's fawn attempt at standing caught his attention. "Awe," he murmured, nuzzling the little fluffy head, "You almost had it, Bud. Almost. You'll get the hang of it." He glanced at the distance between Seyu and the fawn, before trying to gently nose him in that direction. "Why don't you try to go say hi?"

At his nudge Basil let out a rather loud protesting meep. A baby glare was followed before he looked between the two. He wasn't afraid of Seyu at all. But rather being forced to move so fast when he couldn't get a hang of standing was frustrating to his little brain. But after a moment of not being bothered he tried to stand again. Which was all he did for a minute, without falling for once. But the idea of taking a step without falling was out of the question. He tried to lay down gracefully and instead fell on his bum and pouted.

[Super sorry about how late this is. ;-;]

Seyu blinks at the child. What wobbly legs. She leans her head in to sniff Basil and Zash, as she had not solidified their smells yet. Would make her feel better to know familiar scents. "Heewu, Biss." She smiles at him. Pretty baby.

No worries "Almost there,"

No worries

"Almost there," the one eyed gray mused quietly, gaze flickering from the smaller fawn to the older one. He didn't make another attempt to help the little one up, just shifted a little to watch them better. "Do you have family here, Seyu?" he prompted after a moment of silence, brown eye roving back to where she was from staring off into space. He had a habit of doing that: zoning out whenever Basil didn't require his immediate attention.

Basil decided standing was

Basil decided standing was too much work and rolled on his back, pulling a long blade of grass to his mouth to nibble on while Zash spoke to the older fawn. His blue eyes darted from one to the other as he nibbled the grass. Although he didn't understand a word he was transfixed by the interaction.
