A stag, one of a great height, one that could intimidate any other, but his personality got the best of him. He wasn't the kind of stag who would attack without speaking, he often used his massive antlers to protect, to be a guardian. He was given a second and third chance by the Gods of this endless forest. He wandered, he played, he sang, he danced. He was soft on the eyes, his patterns squirmed and moved every once in a while, seeming to be a different deer every time you laid eyes on him. Blue painted toes stamped the earth were a sapling would soon grow. His touch, his words, his actions spoke to others, changing them for the better. He had friends, he loved them, and he was positive they loved him back. He changed so many, in so little ways.
An ear twitched, soon the head of the magnificent beast rose towards the stars and the moon. He saw the two there, looking down on the forest with smiling lips and eyes. A twinkle here and another there. He smiled back, not like he could, but he did so anyway. Imagination was better then anything else, after all. He moved his head back to the grassy area beneath his feet as he grasped the gentle seed pod that he had knocked out from one of the special trees. He held it tightly, yet gently in his teeth as he took a step forward, bones crying out in agony as he winced. He was falling apart, his body wasn't able to withstand the forces of the dead and living combined into one. He teetered, but he kept strong. He watched a shadow move, his muscles tensed, but soon relaxed when it was just a bird. He bowed his head at the bird, who tilted its head and watched as he made his way forward still.
The bird watched with concerned eyes, usually, this stag would chase him around as they played, but today, it didn't seem like he was up for it. Something was wrong, it could tell for the feathers shivered as a pain filled its heart. With a chirp and a flap of the wings, the creature fluttered towards the stag, a dandelion in it's small beak. It landed on one of the twines upon the stag's antlers, holding the flower with utmost care.
Thank you, my friend.
Words whispered into the breeze though teeth and the seedling that would soon sprout into a beautiful tree. The bird rustled its feathers as it puffed up, letting out a shake of its head, moving cleverly to weave the dandelion into the many holes of the antlers. It quickly flew off, making the stag frown some, but he shook it off, it would return to build a nest in the remains of his body, the memory that he was here.
Frame sauntered, swaying to an uneven rhythm as the trees stayed silent, only to mourn as the wind pushed them gently. The pain was too much for the stag that he did manage to fall down to one knee, only to groan and pull himself back up. Determination running through his veins as he made his trek towards the pond. He paused, the sound of laughter and chirping filled his ears as they swiveled around his head, he raised his crown to the trees, only to see his bird friend return, not alone, but with many.
Oh... You brought your friends... Oh thank you. I was afraid I was going to have to do this journey alone.
He cracked a smile, if he had flesh, and felt the eyes that were never there start to tear up, but from the socket, a watery tear did fall. The birds chirped and landed on the twines of the antlers, rooting the dying stag to continue forward. To not give up until he had reached his place. The birds chattered with one another and with the stag as well. He could hear his voice every now and then, but he knew it was just his imagination playing tricks with him. Within sights, he thought he saw a dear old friend... But no, it was just a fawn, one that was freshly born into this world, one that wouldn't know who he was or why he held a crown full of birds upon his antlers.
He watched it lift it's tail and flee from the sights of the dead stag. With a huff and a groan, he moved his near dead limbs towards the pond, only to dip his jaws into the water, feel the cool liquid slither down his throat like worms in the mud. He let out a sigh of relief as he turned slight, his ears perked to find out the familiar sounds of friends, but there were none. No familiar sounds. No familiar scents. Nothing. He lowered his head slightly, only to get an onslaught of angry chirps and he snorted, lifting his head back upward, feeling the weight lift as the birds flew off, but one remained, the one he knew best. It stayed as it watched the others fly off towards their homes. Clearly, they didn't understand what he was facing right now.
Dying three times does harm to one's body. To him, it made him move slower, but his reactions were as sharp as ever. He moved slowly again, feeling the limbs cry in protest, his teeth wanted to clamp tightly, but the pine cone in his grip reminded him to stay in control. He wasn't done for yet. Not at the moment, that is.
It's so hard to move these days. I wish I would still be around for Halloween.
He laughed, the bird chirped in agreement. He fell silent as the bird pecked at the flower it had laced in his antler. He continued onward, moving slowly, painfully. Each step brought back memories, which brought back tears, which made him not want to move on. He paused, knees shaking to the point where he would collapse onto the ground. He felt everything pour out of his eyes. But he held onto those feelings and held his head high, his body took a lumber step. Then another.
And another.
And another.
Finally, he reached the spot. With a sigh of relief, he moved quicker, as if he was being timed. As he reached the spot, he stood there, the ground bare, yet basked in the sunshine. A perfect place to go. He thought to himself. A tail flicked as the whiskers were brushed with an invisible hand. He scraped the ground, trying to make a hole, but with his strength as it was now, he was unable to.
He turned around, something whispered in his ears.
A touch sent chills down his spine and the bird fluttered away, frightened by something he couldn't see. What was it?
Hello? Are you here... To guide me home?
He asked in a whisper, unafraid. His eyes had seen much more then any would have ever dreamed. His body had taken all the hits one would be considered dead. A ghastly figure wearing a white sundress smiled at him, long ribbon flowed behind her in a dazzling way. Next to her trotted a handsome stag, one with the pelt of gold. Being transparent, he still passed by the woman, giving her a nuzzle before stepping forward to Burrow, a smile on his face as he twisted his head slightly to give the other a hug. Stepping away, the stag looked at the girl, who smiled.
Thank you for protecting the weak.
Fighting battles that weren't your own.
Resorting to words than violence.
For not shedding innocent blood.
For being strong for those who could not.
Thank you.
Burrow.
The deer had spoke, causing Burrow to stare with bewildered eyes, only to smile and nod his head in return. He felt that he was in good hands tonight, that this was going to be a better way to go, a better way to die. Without anyone around, and with the Gods to lead him to the stairways of heaven.
Thank you, my Twin Gods, for taking your time off of watching your children, to come and say hello and farewell. To lead me to paradise where I may dwell. Where I may watch my dear friend Baal live with his love. To watch and await the return of Anko, my dear adopted son whom I have met as a fawn. To watch Amary fall in love with a dear friend of hers. Thank you, my Gods, for giving them chances. More then you could ever give me. Thank you for all the friends I have known and met, those who have had their times in the forest, longer then I or shorter then I.
He uttered to the two ghastly figures, his body standing in the spot where he was digging, the woman skipped forward and pulled the face of the stag towards her own in a sweet embrace, running her fingers through the silky, yet matted fur that the beast wore. He let out a sigh and took in a breath, she smelled of lilacs. She looked up at the stag and planted a kiss on the bridge of his skull's nose. A smile ran across her face as did his.
That's when it gave way.
His back legs slid into the dirt, his head still held by the woman's fragile hands. He felt his body go, his legs scraping across the earth as he tried to keep himself up. The woman hushed his effort to try and stand. Burrow understood quickly and let his body fall, his legs slipping under him as his front legs slowly lowered his body down as the woman held his head as she helped him. The golden stag watched with a warm smile on his face as he came beside her, seating himself beside the woman as she moved the stag's head to curl towards his belly. Burrow let out a small chuckle as he curled up, his legs drawing to his face as his jaw loosened.
It rolled out.
The pine cone rolled from the gentle giant's teeth and onto the soil beside his head. The woman blinked at the sight of the pine cone, the common seed, but she smiled and adjusted her body so that she was seated next to him, leaning against his powerful neck as she stoked the fur of the stag. The golden stag watched with soft eyes as his body began to peel away like grains of sand. The woman as well. A final breath of the great guardian, and he was still once more. The markings too, moved no more. The bird returned from hiding and fount itself perched upon the stag's antler. It let out a small wail before looking down, a single tear fell, landing on the pine cone that lay still.
Burrow.
He was a special deer to me. It pains me to let him die after all he has went through. I will miss him, but I have things in store in the near future. You might see him again, you might not. He has been with me since my first trek through the forest. For four solid years. He was my first male deer, and I will miss him greatly. I am crying as I write this whole story down, he's like a son to me. A great friend. He's taught me many things. Protect what you believe in, be there for those who don't have anyone to be there for you, and be yourself.
Burrow will be in the forest, alive still so that he may say his final goodbyes to all his friends and anyone who comes by. He would love company and maybe a nuzzle or two. When I decide to pull the plug on him, I'll post his final passing time here. Note, I may kill him off forever, and I might not. Keep your eyes peeled.

Thanks TFO, I'm glad he met such a nice doe as Jorogumo.
Ocean; I'm gonna miss the goofball. And I'm glad I thought of a peaceful way for him to go. I've always thought of Michael as a golden stag and Auria as a angelic woman in a white sundress and long flowing white hair. And angel, I guess. Blame my imagination running wild too much. xD!
Sluggs; hehe, read away! I was in tears when I wrote this.
Thanks VCG. ♥
Thanks Lemon, it's an honor to hear that from you. ♥
This made me cry. But at least he was at peace, so it's not totally sad.
I really hope I get a chance to get Amary in to see him. She hasn't seen him in such a long time.
I also love the picture. The style is just really neat.
Awww. Pazzy. ;_ ;
Yeah, he misses her too, but it was a huge surprise to see her in the forest after restarting my computer over nine thousand times. Burrow's gonna miss everyone.
And thank you. I thought I'd try something new. ^^
It has been a long time since I have cried at the death of a character. Whenever I saw Burrow's picto in forest it always brought a smile to my face.
Baal adored the lovable behemoth more than any other, I will say that. I think Burrow was the only one he was just plain happy around. Learning that he is gone will make it that much easier for him to let go of his rather tenuous hold on the forest. It will be worth it to live with his beloved fawn and, though I never said anything, his first real crush in the afterlife. x3
As much as I hate to see him go, I am glad that it was such a peaceful, sweet passing. I hope that we'll be seeing him again. I'll miss him Snail. Loved the big guy. ♥
Have to head to bed soon, but for a last Burrow visit, I can come in for a little while.
[Edit] Hate to leave so soon, but have to hit the hay. College things to fight through early.
It was good to have the chance to let Baal say goodbye. Thank you. ♥! He'll miss Burrow like you wouldn't believe but it's a nice thought to know he won't be missing him for long. Odd as that may seem. xD
I should really get up your kind of nerve and quit drawing it out. Just hard to let them go. ♥♥♥
That really was beautiful.. I'm a wreck, I'm in utter tears reading this, and even though Burrow was long before my time here I feel as if I've known him from the very beginning.
I'm placing a mark here.. and I'm going on to track his bio as well. ;______; Thank you for this..

This is of my favorite endings of any character. This is also one of the most depressing ones, too, I think. I'm close to tears.

I didn't know Burrow, and he's long since passed, but as it's been previously stated, I feel like the Forest has lost something very important.
